I saw this posted on io9.com & thought it would be good to copy here. Kudos Harmy.

This weekend I took my 5 year old son to a screening of the despecialized versions in a small movie theater for a private party. Lightsabers were handed out to everyone, food was served from the Star Wars cookbook and Star War toys were at the front of the theatre for kids to play with them if they wanted. Everyone there had seen the movie a 100 times with the exception of the children. People cheered, screamed, hollered and high-fived, they waved lightsabers when they were in play on screen and made blaster noises throughout the movie. There were people in costumes and costumes to try on at a photobooth. It was wonderful.

My son, who has seen two movies in actual theaters, turned to me when it was over with a gleam in his eye and asked “daddy, how come all movies aren’t like this?” And then, a smile broadening on his face “I think I want to watch these ones again a few more times.”

I don’t have a time machine to take him back to 1977 when I first saw Star Wars and experienced a communal epiphany with a group of strangers. But this, for sure, was the next best thing.
