So here is my "color-corrected" (meaning somewhat improved, but still quite lacking) version of the very yellow Star Tours source:

Check it out. It shows what can be done in just an hour with crappy footage, a worse than novice editor, using non-intuitive software that crashed on him three time. Imagine if a real pro tried his hand at this! Also, I don't have the DVD with me right now (I purchased a DVD with the same yellow version, but it might be a better potential source), and I'm not actually sure it is a higher quality digital copy, but if it is, I could upload it and let someone who really knows what they're doing toy around with it. Perhaps it can be made useful.

(Copied from ROTJ collaborative thread) Okay, here it is! Star Tours color corrected (somewhat [better than the previous version]). This is the most stable, color corrected version of the actual film I know of. There are still problems with it, mostly related to artifacts from enlarging the video and too much blue, noticeable in dark shots. However, I'm rather proud of what I as a newbie at editing was able to accomplish with the limited, super yellow source. I will also upload the version I have for others to dabble with it.

It's also not as complete as other versions. If a complete restoration is to be done, someone will need to download one of the YouTube videos and add the beginning. This also uses slightly different audio from the version that actually plays on the ride, but that is available online as well. I will probably get around to further correcting and completing this at a later point, but I'm done for a short time. Hope you all like it.
EDIT: 4shared lets you preview the movie without actually downloading it. It actually looks much better to me downloaded and played in media player than in the little window.

Produced independently from Disney and Lucasfilm, Star Tours Origins not only offers “Star Wars” fans a chance to once again embark on a hair-raising adventure past the Endor moon, but also to do it for the first time ever in 3-D. Much like Disney’s new Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, Noacco has used YouTube 3D to present his Star Tours Origins tribute with more depth than the original attraction.

So some guy at Mousebits, the Walt Disney theme park preservation site, collected several interesting videos for a Star Tours preservation, but because he lacked the seniority in Mousebits hierarchy to upload the DVD, he instead offered how to locate the various videos he pieced together here:

You probably have to register to see this page. At the bottom is a requests section. In the requests section is a post called Star Tours footage. In the post made on April 13, 2012, he gives everyone some good direction ;)

It just seems strange to me that I'm the only one who really seems interested in this thread. I think Star Tours is awesome! Oh well. I've created a DVD of Star Tours. It contains:
-Martin's HQ Ultimate Tribute
-Martin's Star Tours 2 with all variations
-The best on-ride footage I've found
-Two different versions of the time-coded workprint (one very yellow and non-interlaced, the other more brown and interlaced)
-Star Tours Origins in CGI
The menu is simply a crappy static menu with the Star Tours logo, but it suffices. PM me if you are interested :)

I was always awed by Star Tours as a child because I knew so little about it. My friend's older brother had gone and told us it was "awesome" which added to the mystique.

I had the pleasure of riding this a couple more times before it closed. I enjoyed it as much in 2010 as I did my first time in 1992.
Lucasfilm needs to work out a deal with Disney to put the 1987 ride film on a future release. I'd love to see it on Blu-ray in 30p.
I'd also love to see a making-of or behind the scenes footage from the ride film. Jim Hill says that ILM had to go back and reprogram/reshoot the Death Star run because the first try didn't have the kinetic feel of the films.
A presentation of the '87 Star Tours, like the Back to the Future ride presentation on that DVD release, would be on my dream OUT release (along with From Star Wars to Jedi, and a REAL documentary about ILM's work on the OT and their pre-CGI days).

May I just congratulate you on an excellent job with this disc. I never knew there was that much stuff available on the Star Tours. Kudos for putting it all together so exhaustively and entertainingly.

Hey, thanks :) I'm glad you like it. Again, I won't take credit for the documentaries...some guy named Martin did that. All I did is find the various videos (some things rather obscure) and put them all on one DVD. Perhaps you know that, but I simply don't want to take more credit than I deserve. But still, I think it's a fun disc, and I'm glad you enjoy it too.

This was my favorite part, where the writers for Star Tours 2 get Lucas' approval:
It was with some trepidation that the Imagineers showed the possible storylines to Lucas. “He was very nice,” Surrell remembered. “He said he liked what we proposed but he was disappointed that the adventure on Hoth didn’t include the Walkers. We explained that since according to the timeline that the rebels had not yet established a base on the planet that we couldn’t use them. “George looked at us and said, ‘Who cares?’ We were stunned," Surrell said.

Finally got around to fixing up my Star Tours DVD. It looks a bit better, has an extra clip of the brownish workprint, but I fixed the colars ;) And I uploaded it at MySpleen, so anyone who wants to can get it there. I will try to seed it all night and over the weekend, but during most of the week it will be hit and miss. Hope you all like it. I can't take credit for most of it, but I'm proud of what obscurities I managed to collect and put on one disc.

I don't know anyone who has a D-Box (they're thousands of dollars), but I wonder if it would be possible for someone to create a D-Box program that syncs with the Star Tours DVD. I'm surprised Lucasfilm hasn't done this.
