A question about Epsiode Four..

Author
Time
Right after the Falcon leaves the death Star, Leia and Han are in the cockpit discussing whether or not Han is in it for the money.
They are supposed to be in hyperspace, but outside the cockpit it is just completely black. What is the deal with that?

The millenium falcon never went into hyperspace after escaping from the death star.

"They've just made the jump into hyperspace."
"Are you sure the homing beacon is aboard their ship?"

I figure we just skipped their trip through hyperspace and join back up with the Falcon as they enter Yavin's orbit. Can't be in hyperspace while you enter the planet atmosphere.

They blow up the tie fighters
They cut to the Death Star. Vader tells us they made the jump.
Cut back to the Falcon--this is where time and the jump has probably passed
After Luke and Han talk--we see how close they are to Yavin. Meaning they probably dropped out of hyperspace before we cut back to Han and Leia talking in the first place.

Yes, if it wasn't fixed for the SE or the DVD, then they musn't have been in hyperspace at that point. Dear god, what am I sayng?

Great. Something else for Lucas to screw with in the next round of tinkering.

I think Lucas either forgot the add the special effect here, or he ran out of time and/or money.

He's poor now???

OK so it's a mistake they made, happy now?!
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Not really. There are only two shots of a ship actually in Hyperspace in the entire saga, and neither are inside the cockpit, so I think it would be a cool thing to add to a fan edit, as long as the effect was subdued.

Special effects cost alot of money to create. He claims he didn't have a big budget at the time he made ANH. Of course, he is not poor now.

Hence, the joke.

Maybe he IS poor, and he's doing this to pay his debts, and he dosen't care if the films suck, he wants the money.

Maybe it was one of those creative uses of Time Line like Pulp Fiction. Or Memento. Lucas was so before his time!

Don't tell me Pulp Fiction skips around like Kill Bill does! Tarantino is such and idiot!

ACtually, I'm bluffing. I've never seen it. But I heard it did.

Hahaha. That was a bit awkward.

Anyway, if Lucas had to add some more changes or all the starwars copies ever would blow up...

Then would anyone like to see Hyperspace outside the cockpit during that scene?

Now that someone pointed it out, yes. But I guess visually I would prefer to avoid the busy backdrop during a characterization moment. Distracts the viewer's attention from what they should be noticing. I'd be cool either way.
