I just don't see what's so silly about "Phasma." I mean, this community is used to a lot worse--Sidious, Grievous, Tyranus, Nute Gunray. Phasma doesn't sound any weirder than "Skywalker" or more on-the-nose than "Solo."

Skywalker is pretty bad as well.

Gwendoline Christie confirmed as Captain Phasma.

Don't like the name, but I'm glad they didn't give her breast-accentuating armour.

Something for Spaced Ranger to work on after the Blu is released, I guess.

So we *may* end up getting a subtle glimpse of Jar Jar's long-dead bones eh?  I guess those that like him can just imagine it's just some *other* poor Gungan...but plenty would enjoy this particular 'cameo' I'm sure. :)

(nothing beats seeing him blown up on Alderaan by the Death Star however, as per adywan's extended 'deleted' scene!)

Scrolling along the handful of pics at the bottom of this link, it was interesting to see some of the creature/alien designs that J.J. has in store for us.  Seems like we're getting another hive of scum and villainy along the way, and a very 'old school'-looking type at that.

Yeah, we sure dodged a bullet there!  Glad they had the sense not to do that.

Well, between these recent character pics and snippets, I think I've now seen as much as I want to about this next movie, without ruining things too much for myself.

I reckon I've now seen about the same amount of stuff I came across about ROTJ before seeing it all those years ago, without knowing how all the various characters or storyline fitted together for that.  But it's *really* time for me to avoid this particular thread now before December methinks...along with all the books and general avalanche of merchandise that'll appear before it.

I'm sure it won't be easy to dodge everything that appears...and that includes any future trailers to come...but I do know one thing...I *definitely* don't recommend that anyone listens to the 'soundtrack' CD beforehand, nor read it's track listings either!  I'm certainly keeping that side of things fresh for myself, no matter what! :)

So I'll say ta ta to this thread, and good luck to anyone else planning the same at this point.

Well Hamill said he grew out a "contractually obligated" beard, which could be a joke but he was sporting one for all of filming. It doesn't make sense that he'd go full cyborg and lose everything that makes him identifiable as a character.

Provided Abrams' version of the Sith go by the master and apprentice rule, perhaps cyborg dude is the master.

Right or wrong I'm going to stay with the Luke is the cyborg speculation and consider the beard an official misdirection. The next trailer could likely prove me completely off-base. :)

I think the cyborg aspect may have just been pre-production concepts for Adam Driver's character that they decided to discard.

At some point, maybe someone in production thought that seeing Adam's face as opposed to a cyborg worked better.

I really doubt the cyborg is Luke.  In fact Luke is probably just a cameo at the end of the film along with the flashback sequence earlier in the film where he's younger (that scene in the trailer).

I don't know how many people in this thread even get this, but it's the funniest thing anyone has said on ot.com this year.

I just noticed something in those Vanity Fair photos.

Isn't this an OT era stormtrooper helmet painted black with text added?

Sure looks like it.

I won't! (Meaning I will be listening to it)

I really hope Luke isn't made into a villain or "dark" character in any way, shape, or form. It would destroy the point of his entire hero's journey from the original trilogy, of not going down the path his father did. Luke stands for redemption. He has a good heart. Whisperings and rumors of him turning bad in the upcoming film really sound like a terrible idea.

Why is Kylo Ren dressed like Darth Maul? Did Ren meet Maul? Is Ren a Maul groupie?

Maybe that's Abrams way of pleasing the PT fans?  He did say he was  trying to please everyone.

Dear Internet,

Are Chewbacca's eyes okay in this photo or are they still completely unacceptable?

edit: I missed adywan's opinion. Checked one for 'okay eyes'.

Closer look at the eyes.  BTW, love the fact they're in the Falcon cockpit in this shot...classic.

THE DICE! It's.....weird that they went with actual real dice...pretty sure they were just metal cubes in SW....

Any thoughts on these alien pirates. The droid really intrigues me. It looks like a protocol-type droid, except this on has more female features (a nod to C-3PO's Metropolis design origins perhaps?), not to mention a pretty weird-looking head.
The big alien guy however looks a lot like Bossk to me. He has the same outfit and he looks a lot like a Trandoshan from the neck down (his hands are identical to Bossk's, except a lot fatter). Also are those tusks, or bones or something coming out of his jaw? I know that as far as the original EU goes Trandoshans never had tusks, but that doesn't mean that they've changed the design in the new movies. Perhaps he's a different type of Trandoshan, someone from the same planet, or perhaps an older one?

According to the Meet Captain Phasma article by Vanity Fair yesterday it was Phasma chasing the Millenium Falcon in the trailer. So does that mean that this guy is actually Captain Phasma in a Tie pilot uniform?

My guess is they've got that part wrong. Just because it's chrome doesn't mean it's the same guy. For all we know, all the Tie Pilots are chrome, just as they were all black in the OT.

More likely than not, Phasma would have a fancy tie too if she has one at all, like the one that kills all those troopers (it has a different rectangular window to the rest).

I just think it would be kind of silly for the already armoured character to go through a costume change just to get in a Tie.

It's possible that they got it wrong, but it seems like quite the thing to get wrong, especially considering how much work is going into the marketing of this film, not to mention how careful they have been about revealing things.

The Vanity Fair article did however specifically say; "...that was the lanky Brienne of Tarth stalking through halls and chasing the Millennium Falcon in the most recent trailer."

Also I never assumed that the Tie pilot was wearing a chrome armour, it's just shiny looking during the few frames were the pilot fires at the Falcon. Also I don't see why she would wear the chrome armour if she actually went chasing after the Falcon in a Tie-fighter. It would make a lot more sense to put on a proper Tie pilot outfit. It might even be a necessity, considering the equipment in a Tie-fighter. For example that breathing gear seen in the trailer (as well as the OT) might be a necessity when piloting a Tie. Sure Vader didn't change outfit for his Tie piloting, but then again he already has a built in breathing gear.

But we'll just have to wait and see. I personally think that this Phasma character might turn out to be quite interesting, especially if she's chasing Han and Chewie throughout the film.

Is the tie-pilot armour actually silver and/or red etc? I thought it was all just coloured light reflecting off it's shiny surface.
