Hello, my dear, dear friends of the OT - 

I've been around here for quite a while. I try and jump in on most conversations, diffuse most attacks on newbies, and was an early advocate of the complete removal of Otah Gungah which has since caught on quite a bit.

I am 25 years old. I have a full time job at minimum wage. My girlfriend has a part time job.

We have a 4 year old, a 5 year old, and a 3 month old. 

A couple months ago our landlord of 5 years kicked us out of our incredibly affordable rented house to renovate and sell it.

All 5 of us now live in a single room of my girlfriend's mother's double wide.

We're barely making ends meet.

I have not gotten laid since before the baby was born and I don't see it happening anytime in the next year if we have to stay here.

An amazing opportunity has arisen to convert my parents' garage into a house. Lots of friends willing to help if I get the materials. My parents live on 3 acres and the garage is 1188 sq ft. 

Trying to find ways to raise money. Anything helps. I've asked my family and friends in my daily life. I consider some of you on here both.

Thanks. It all works itself out in the end. At least some of the mid 20's common sense is kicking in and I should be able to make more future-conscious decisions from this point.

As it is, I'm the proud owner of a shiny new vasectomy.

And I didn't say I can't afford my children. I said barely.

I'm not looking for handouts to support my family.

I'm looking for handouts to help me build a house. :D

This may sound harsh, but I believe that people who can't afford three children shouldn't have three children.

That's probably a good view to have, but then again 9 months is a long time for life to get screwed up enough to no longer be able to afford someone new. Can't really give them away at that point either as your other kids will get big eyes and will start refusing to go for rides in the car.

Cuz there isn't anyone in a homeless shelter or using a foodbank that made stupid decisions. Every one of them is drug free and doing their best to support their children. And those children obviously number in the amount that they can afford. Good call Frink. 

(I say that in response to our conversation. I strongly believe in such programs and actually work taking donations and advocating for local non-profits.)

 To the rest of you reading this thread - put your money towards something worthwhile, like a homeless shelter or a food bank in your city.

 I'd rather give to someone who is working and has kids. Most homeless people are too far gone for me to waste money on them.

Because homeless people is just a big group of nameless, faceless people. It is not possible to care or not care about them as a group.

I met a homeless guy with kids once. He didn't want to admit to them he was homeless so his solution was just to never talk to them again. Great solution. He also said he didn't want to go home because he didn't want to have to admit to his wife he was still on drugs. Oh, and he didn't want to go off the drugs because then he would be bored. Yes, here is a really responsible type guy that I should care heaps about!

I stay awake nights worried about him because he might run out of drugs! I figured that I if I did without a bit of necessities I could give that guy just enough money each week to make sure he can stay high while I go out and work.

I heard a homeless guy once quoted on a report that he did drugs while homeless because he was bored. He said there was so much time in the day that the drugs helped pass the time. He could have instead spent his time cleaning up the garbage on the sidewalks or done odd jobs, but no, he was bored so he had to drug himself. It was great stuff.

At least he was honest I guess.

 OK, I get it, you are or once were a homeless person. Sorry if I'm dissing some of your buddies. But then you did miss this part of my post:

But I get it, homeless people aren't lazy, they're just bored. Too bored to bother to pick up the garbage they leave behind when digging through the dumpster. I should feel bad for them and should pick up their trash because they are just poor, bored homeless people who don't need to work. No, working is my job. I get to work so I can get enough money to make sure that the homeless get a nice strong swallow of alcohol for breakfast. Nothing else will make them happy. Because they are so bored, you see.
