Suggestions for the New Forum

I know we're going to have a place to make these suggestions once the forum is moved, but I keep thinking of things so I thought it would be nice to have one place to put them before I forget.  Feel free to chime in.

You pick a checkbox on multiple posts, then hit replay with quote, and it automatically puts all those quotes into a single post for you to reply to.

How about User Fragging? All of originaltrilogy.com becomes an MMOFPS running a html5 port of some variant of the Cube engine (Cube, Assault Cube, Cube 2, Red Eclipse, Platinum Arts Sandbox, Tesseract etc...)...

On a serious note, I agree with pretty much every suggestion Frink posted.

The advanced text editor the site currently has is strange. It doesn't like mobile browsers, it REALLY doesn't like my Wii (I have to go to basic mode just to type anything) , it's difficult to put quotes in quotes...it's just...bleh. I like how the picture option allows you to resize the image to an exact resolution without physically resizing the image though. Even that can be improved by having an "automatically change value to fit aspect ratio if you change other value" option.

ugh now I'm picturing every thread as an iteration of Ac_Douze, while in Off Topic Frink trolls everybody with a custom map featuring the Mighty LOLBunny and "Friday" playing on a loop in the background.

Here's where you can start logging feature requests:

http://github.com/jaysylvester/comitium/issues

You'll need to create a GitHub account. Everything you add should be labeled as a feature request at this point, not a bug, because we're not talking about the current software. Once I open up the software to members for testing, you'll be able to log bug reports there as well.

Incidentally, some of the items you've listed are already a part of the new software and will be available at launch (a mobile layout, for example). The rest have been floating around in the back of my mind in some form or another. The new software will definitely be more modern in its approach. Keep in mind I built this forum in 2007 or 2008 and it's basically been patchwork since then to keep it running. Things have advanced quite a bit in the last 8 years. The new framework will make updates and maintenance a lot easier, and I'm committed to keeping this place running as long as Star Wars fans want to gather here.

I see that no one aside from Jay has posted anything on GitHub...or am I missing something?

I'm just being lazy.  I'll Git to it eventually.

I signed up and added the list.  I can't figure out how to add the enhancement label, so I just put it in the title instead.

I don't know how many of you are using the github thingy, but for those who aren't, here are the items from my master list that Jay has indicated will be included in the initial launch:

- Fix the "https" link thingy
- Allow PMs to be sent from user profiles
- View a user's post and thread history
- Auto-resize of images too large to be fully displayed
- Mobile version of forum (no Tapatalk)

Although I should get a git-hub account....

I think we really need *Spoiler Tags*

and not for my benefit really but people write scripts here for video, so It would perhaps be beneficial for them to have a *Code* insert / text box

and users being able to like posts without having to post "I like that" and it could be re-called from a list of posts that a user liked. I suppose it's similar to bookmark but It would display that a user liked a post to the person who posted.

Ah Frink your way ahead of me!!!

Can we get a general discussion about other films sub-forum?

God, this site absolutely sucks now. How did this ever go live?!? Wake me when it isn’t a BIG jumbled mess.

That post got this thread locked and I had to request that it be unlocked. If anyone else has a rude comment to share, kindly do so elsewhere. Thanks.

My only gripe at the moment is that the private messages page only shows the sender rather than the recipient(s).

Due to the nature of the work I’m doing with poita, I have to send lots of PMs to people on the same topic, so I copy-and-paste the subject, but I can’t make a multi-user PM instead since these discussions often involve trading PII like addresses, etc.

At the moment I have to click every PM to look for correspondence with a particular user. I guess I can just use different subjects or put the recipient’s username in the subject, but that seems unnecessary since there’s more than enough space to include the everyone involved in the PM (senders and recipients) right there on the private messages page.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Is there a way for us to add tags to issues on github, or do you have to do it?

With all due respect, the point still stands: is this the format of the site from now on? Or is it going to be changed so that it actually fits the entire screen. It’s like looking at vertical widescreen. I don’t understand how priority was given to people looking at the site on a phone instead of a computer.

And, randomly, why is the font from Dick Tracy?
