That is not what the BD looks like. But if there were scenes looking like that, I would simply add some grain.

While this would make the picture look more natural at first glance, it doesn't bring back the image detail that was lost in the DNR process. I know that there are some cases in the trilogy where you added digital grain but I don't really see a real benefit in this. It's just adding something artificial to the image instead of bringing back the original grain and the image details that were removed with it.

I think it's more of a last resort to remove the plastic-looking surfaces caused by DNR, especially in skin. The goal is always to preserve as much of the original detail as possible, but there's only so much you can do when it has been scrubbed and smeared away by DNR.

Right. I think everyone knows that adding grain doesn't bring back anything that was lost. But sometimes grain for the purpose of distraction is the best bet. Particularly when it looks that awful.

Adding grain is first and foremost a way to integrate the shot better with the surrounding shots (that do have grain). It's a way for the DNRed shot to stick out less.

Yes. Grain also helps create the illusion of detail. It's really all about the experience - if you feel like you're watching a detailed image, it is more important than actually seeing one that is a little more detailed but actually feels less so because everything looks like plastic.

Grain management is part and parcel of a restoration now.

Big fan of your work Harmy. Glad to see you're working on an updated version of your RoTJ DE. I look forward to seeing what you do with it.

 Dear bro,

There are mirrors of tpb. There are plenty of other public trackers. And there are ways to get on any of these sites even if you're in a country that blocks trackers. (it is not clear if my bro is discussing the ISP blocks or actual website takedowns).

Sincerely,

Bro.

Indeed.

For everyone who may not know the difference between grain management and scrubbing: Take a look at the restoration of To Kill a Mockingbird.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Is the AVCHD version not an ISO but instead just a BDMV folder?

edit: I found an answer on page 20.

FWIW, the "ISO" file (really a UDF image) did contain a CERTIFICATE folder

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Something would have been quite wrong if there was a link in the first post.

Torrent sites or tehparadox would be your answer.

Do you realize all the other threads display them on the first page? I tried tehparadox, and there is no link, like on on the other versions. And after sifting through 5 pages of searches, I can't confirm wether any of them are DVD5 downloads either...

Was there some kind of popular article or something about Harmy recently or something?  What is with the sudden onslaught of people coming on the forum asking where they can get it?  I mean there's always a couple that pop up from time to time but recently it's been ridiculous!

I'm sure it's being mentioned in lots of forums and comment sections in response to the discussion/disappointment of the SE digital package thing.

I posted this on the FB group; it probably contributed to the recent traffic:

Harmy, you and your projects were mentioned on last week's episode of This Week in Tech. Good to see more and more people recognize your work.
Here's the clip:

EDIT: ugh, link's dead.  I believe its about 1 hour into episode 505

Direct links are the worst. Really selects for people who for whatever reason aren't capable of googling. At least those who hear about harmy and have to Google it will essentially find the restoration itself just as easily as they'll find this thread.

Yeah, I discovered the v1.0 of the trilogy and got it off thepiratebay before I ever came across the forum. Don't know why people can't do a simple Google search to find it.

Yep. GIYF. I'm pretty sure I found out about these versions from an article when I was searching around for a proper release of the OT. It took me a while to find all the links to the newest versions but seeing the differenve between SW 2.5 and this 1.0 version told me it was worth it. People ask though since there's no simple click-to-download and not every SW fan is great at tech. There are a bunch of broken links and a couple of bad torrents here and there so it does take some work even after being pointed in the right direction.
