I just know frevious' slide into pessimism began after receiving a pair of SW pajamas as a gift and then subsequently wetting his bed that very same night.

You're not helping here. Knock it off.

Where were you in '77?

This bickering is pointless!

If your crop is water, what, exactly, would you dust your crops with?

We should petition Reliance to upload their 4K restoration to myspleen

Yeah, the recent pessimism in this thread is kind of hilarious considering there are at least three major Star Wars preservation/restoration projects going on at the moment. When all is said in done, there will be three very high quality copies of the original 1977, if not all being distributed freely. This isn't disappearing from history, folks.

Oh yeah, the OOT, while not widely available, is NOT lost.

My God, darth_ender, what is the source of that screenshot?  The colors look awful, please tell me that's not from an official release.

There's a 99.999% chance that's from the official release. If it looked any good at all, it would be a bootleg.

Even if the OOT was not lost and being restored by outside sources, they have to still face Disney's lawyers. That company loves to shout copyright infringement at any possible moment. Remember, they are the masterminds behind the lifetime plus 70 years copyright law in effect today.

A blushing Lobot and the neon pink highlights on the stormtroopers suggests it's from the blurays.

Yeah this thread is really bad. By the way, I don't recall the last time any of these fan edits have been shut down by lawyers. Don't forget that Harmy is as well known as ever right now and no lawyers have come knocking

Man, Simon Pegg repped your restoration. If Disney didn't come knocking after that I doubt they will.

It was merely a Google image that matched my incredibly witty joke ;)

It isn't, so drop the schtick.

It kind of looks like somebody took a picture of a TV screen.

 FWIW, I laughed.

I actually like those colors in that Lando pic.  :P  It's got a real Flash Gordon vibe.

I know that there is no excuse to dredge up this dumpster of a thread, but I just thought of something that we've mentioned before but haven't discussed since the digital release. I don't think the digital release means that we won't get a new physical media release of the OT in order to replace the "Complete Saga" edition that is on shelves. Even if it's the 2004 versions just repackaged, they need to replace the one that labels episodes 1-6 as the "Complete" series. Hopefully it'll be a perfect opportunity to throw us some sort of OOT release.

1. If you don't want something to be pirated, you have to release an official version. The absence of an official release will turn people to piracy.

2. If Disney ignores the prequels but keeps promoting the SEs, how are they going to explain who that ghost next to Yoda at the end of ROTJ is?

Yep.

Not only will they need to reframe the existing films as no longer being the complete story, they're going to have to release the films individually at some point. Lucasfilm might as well take a page from its own history, only do things right this time. A blu-ray equivalent of the GOUT, with both versions from brand new transfers instead of existing ones (and maybe with the '97 version thrown in as well), would totally justify a higher price point for an individual release.

And a minty freshness that can't be beat.

First of all, it's still Lucasfilm, not Disney at the wheel.

Secondly, at Celebration there was a lot of prequel love. There was a clear undercurrent of resentment toward the current OT focus.

I'm afraid it's only a matter of time before it resumes infecting the rest of the franchise. It's already started in the Marvel comics.

What were some examples of this?
