I usually plug it directly into my anus and project it out my dickhole.

I use a 1/2" projector screen.

There's a small thing I noticed while watching the edit for the umptienth time. It's likely it doesn't even have anything to do with Despecialized in particular since I could find the same thing in a YouTube clip of the scene.

Obi-Wan's line "You'll never find a more wretched hive..." sounds oddly spliced together. Not just that, it's almost unmistakably "the more wretched". I checked the Blu-ray and it doesn't sound like that to me there. My mind might be playing tricks on me. Anybody know more?

Haven't honestly gone to that spot to listen, but the 1977 English audio is, as far as anyone's been able to tell, using in-theatre recordings and 35mm captures, faithful to how it sounded in the theatres.  For the Blu-rays, they purportedly went back and found the original unmixed dialogue, which theoretically could make the dialogue clearer.  I've never found the Blu-ray audio particularly bearable, but you may have found a spot where it worked.

The interesting thing is Guiness said "A more" (you can see it in the "making of" footage, but in the theatrical mix ( e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0znNiN0lYAQ ) he said "THE more".

But still my favourite version is this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRd_vZT6zPY

Multiple takes, multiple pronunciations.  They don't always use the same take when they replace dialogue.  It doesn't sound like "the" to me.  It sounds like the soft "d" from the end of "find" blends with "a" to make something that sounds like "fayn-dhuh".  There's a lot of that to be found in any movie really, but, you know, it was the seventies... slurred speech and all that.

Are you hinting you may have the proper Blu Ray package, menus and all, finished?

That would be a perfect Star Wars Day miracle, if so... :)

Oh, no - I'm not hinting at anything like that. Just showing off my new setup, that's all. I'm not in charge of making the BD.

You really should make this your avatar...or I can make it your avatar for you. You can use this. I scaled it to 100 height, cropped it to 100 width, and lit it up so that it would look better as a smaller image. If you like it and decide to use it, can you please credit me in your signature?

(For Harmy) Did you see Joshua274's thread? This user's dad worked on the handling of the original film elements on all three films, and he has some interesting opinions on the various fan edits, including yours. Here's what he said about your despecialized edition:

Harmy

The whites on the Tantive IV no longer look as pink. However, they now look more yellow. Harmy commented about how the blacks look more crushed (sandcrawler scenes). If this is because they don’t pop out as much for the blu-ray release, my dad said that this was natural for a high-def format. What’s more if you’re only point of reference for blacks is an SD/analog release, then you don’t know what blacks are supposed to look like. What’s worse is that, in fixing the blacks, lighter elements now look more yellow.

Something else Harmy commented on was that the sand scenes just after the droids land looked artificial due to a clean up process for the blu-ray release. With the exception of the noise in the overall picture, my dad couldn’t figure out what looked artificial about it. However, Harmy’s tweaks make it look more washed out now.

Thinking back to your despecailized edition, I can see what his dad is talking about, specifically during the scene where Obi-Wan scares off the Sand People. That scene looked almost unnaturally yellow.

Here's the rest of the post if you want to see more of his thoughts: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Opinions-of-fan-preservation-projects-from-an-individual-who-saw-the-original-film-elements/topic/17753/

There's lots of things that complicate any color correction evaluations.

First off, nobody's color memory is perfect.  And I say this with the utmost respect for people who do this professionally, and who clearly have a better memory for such things than I do, but the memories of humans are faulty, period.  Nothing matches a good objective reference, and, well, to borrow from Monty Python: We've already got one.  It's very nice.

Secondly, objective references aren't identical.  Harmy used a high-quality scan of a Technicolor print.  The person in question, even when they were using a reference all those decades ago, was, at best, using fast-fading 35mm filmstock, already several years old and nowhere near its original colors.  Even before fading, the Technicolor and other 35mm prints may have had different color characteristics, and may have looked a little different when projected--but the Technicolor print retained its color, while the other 35mm prints lost it very, very quickly.

Thirdly, the source for most of the DeEd's is the Blu-rays.  They have already been heavily manipulated, and not all of that manipulation is reversible.  Sometimes Harmy needs to choose a least bad approximation of the Technicolor prints, because an exact match is either not possible or not desirable for other reasons.

I'm not saying it can't be improved--I'm sure it can.  But Harmy is sitting on a copy of pretty much the definitive color reference for this film.  That is much, much better than the best-retained memories and gut feelings of even the best color experts around.

Now, for Empire?  Gut feelings have a lot more value there, as no objective reference exists, AFAIK, although I believe some of the Empire prints faded significantly slower than others, so they may be useful.  Jedi was filmed on color-stable filmstock, so more-or-less objective references likely abound.

Actually, what I have is a scan of a good reference print, so there's no guarantee that it is perfectly correct. But yeah, memories are the worst reference, plus it sounds like they just watched a part of my sources documentary (thrice re-compressed, if they watched  it on youtube) and his dad just made some off hand comments.

To be honest, it's starting to make me physicaly ill to keep going in circles discussing the colors in Despecialized - I'm the first to admit that they are by no means perfectly accurate but they do look much better than the official BD. Can't we just leave it at that? If I ever do anothwr version, I'll be starting completely from scratch anyway, so there's no real constructive point in discussing the colors in the current one to death.

Starting completely from scratch? I guess by that point Team Negative One's preservation will be ready and you won't have any need for GOUT footage.

Yes, he said some pages ago that IF he'll do a "version 3.0" it will be a mix of the BluRay footage and the 35mm scan with no GOUT upscales at all

Harmy - I would not worry about those who complain about the color correction.  It is FAR FAR better than what Lucas did to us, and that is what really matters.  If they think they can do a better job, they SHOULD go and do it!

I will be forever grateful to you for these releases.  Star Wars defined my childhood...you have restored a great measure of that.

Thanks for that.

Congrats on making the jump to projecting, Harmy.  Which model projector did you choose and what did you go with on the rest of your setup (receiver, screen, etc.)?

And I agree that without a new version on the horizon, continually bitching about colors on SW is now bordering on beating a dead horse.  Everyone should focus their opinions on Jedi right now and after that on Empire when V2.5 (with even less GOUT and correct credits) comes into focus.  Never your minds on where we are, what we are doing, you are all reckless.
