Isn't the only CGI they really improved (in 04) the Jabba scene? I agree that the things added newly in '11 don't look like they were rendered in the 90s, though they don't look great.

The Sarlacc still looks like fairly dreadful smooth, plasticy 90's CGI. It looks like a cutscene from a Playstation or Dreamcast game. Some of the Tatooine creatures look pretty bad as well, but better than the Sarlacc.

Yeah, like 90% of the CG is from the 90s. The only shots I'm aware of that aren't 90s are the door at Jabba's palace, the new R2 rock + new equipment shooting out of him in Jedi, and I guess the ewok blinking. The 04 Jabba was the TPM model from 1999, and I think the Sebulba thing in Jabba's Palace was also from the Phantom Menace (it looks like it) but I could be wrong on that.
