Did the prequels have any character as memorable as Admiral Ackbar?

I'll never forget TMP character, "Pilot, the sex of whom I legitimately couldn't ascertain without looking up on IMDB."

I'm disappointed no one's mentioned Ric Olié yet. He's clearly the most memorable character in the PT hands down.

The main flaw of RotJ is that its plot is a major anticlimax in a number of ways, ewoks are the least of its problems.  Having said that, it's not a bad film in itself it's just not very good compared to the first two.

When I complain about the acting/dialogue in the prequels and someone responds by saying "well c'mon, the Star Wars saga never had great acting/dialogue", I want to rip my teeth out.

Change "rip my teeth" to "gouge my eyes", and I'll agree 110%

The [original] Star Wars [films] never had great acting or dialogue.

Off you go. Pictorial evidence if you please.

Why are you responding to a post from a year ago, from someone who left in a huff over five months ago?

And even though I know what movie that image is from, it's a tad unexpected and gruesome.

I know that this opinion is going to be unpopular here (when has that ever stopped me haha) but I actually enjoy ROTJ more than I enjoy TESB.

I recognise that TESB is a better film technically but ROTJ has much better replayability for me, I find it a lot more entertaining and upbeat, like Star Wars. TESB I find very bleak and humourless by comparison, albeit brilliant in its own way as a sobering wakeup call to the Rebel Alliance.

Star Wars is definately my favourite, followed by ROTJ and then TESB in last place. I think humour as well as drama is an integral part of Star Wars films. I just hope JJ Abrams hasn't forgotten to include humour in the new film coming out, everything seems pretty dramatic and grim in those teasers, those lighter touches are also really important in the SW films. Star Wars would have lost so much of its appeal without the fantastic bickering of the droids and banter between three main leads IMHO.

I second the 83 version (the real one), cause Jedi Rocks is the worst thing about the Jedi SE. Even more than Hayden's ghost, Vader's NOOOOO, and Jar Jar saying "weesa free!"

As much as I hate Jedi Rocks, Vader's Nooooo......? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! is just on a completely different level of bad, definately the worst change of the ROTJ SE for me.

I own the blu-ray set of Star Wars but I've never been able to bring myself to watch ROTJ because of that change, I saw the clips on youtube when the blu-rays came out and it was the last straw for me.

I'd been able to put up with Hayden and Jedi Rocks in the previous releases but that change to such an iconic moment in the OT was just too much for me to bear.

To be fair to Ackbar, he was the original Captain Obvious.  But Ric took it to a whole new level.

This page has gone way off topic in the last few posts. Back to topic...

Since I posted the OP 2 years ago the critical consensus on the 6 current SW films hasn't changed much (According to Rotten Tomatoes) but it has changed...

Star Wars 93% (-1)
The Empire Strikes Back 96% (-1)
Return of the Jedi 78% (-1)
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace 57% (=)
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones 67% (=)
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith 80% (=)

So people still feel exactly the same about the prequels, they like the original-trilogy a bit less (Surprising given the recent OT love expressed in the lead up to TFA) and they still think ROTS is better than ROTJ but now they prefer ROTS even more!

Madness I say! I still can't really understand why many are so dissatisfied with ROTJ, that they'd actually start thinking it was worse than the prequels.

Not sure how the hell anyone can rationally consider AOTC a better movie than PM. After reading some of the reviews I feel like they are judging the prequels on expectations rather than actual content. The hype for PM was legendary, and the dissapointment was equally legendary. By the time Sith rolled around the bar had fallen quite a bit. Meanwhile the ROTJ reviews are mostly upset that it's not Empire.

But Attack of the Clones is one of the worst films I have ever watched. The dialogue is not at all representative of how human beings interact. The editing is slow and the shot design unimaginative. Practically every dialogue scene is a flat-angle shot reverse shot. The tone is all over the place. The plot and character motivations are incredibly confusing. I still don't know who the hell commissioned the clone army and why (and it shouldn't require reading an EU novel to understand that), why no one could plainly see that Palpatine is the Sith they're looking for, why a 50's diner owner is more knowledgeable than 900 year old Yoda, or why Anakin's fall to the dark side isn't complete and the prequel trilogy doesn't end when he murders an entire village of sand people.

I don't understand the AOTC>TPM thing myself. Even when I first watched it in my teens, back when my tastes in TV and movies were uneven at best, I found AOTC underwhelming in comparison to the prior movie. AOTC didn't even have a single half-decent lightsaber duel.

If you take out Jar Jar, The Phantom Menace is the best of the prequels. Not saying much, I know.

Well, there's Queen Amidala's ear-bleeding robot voice, Jake Lloyd's cringeworthy performance, several interminable Jedi council/senate meetings, and the overlong podrace sequence no one actually likes.

But yes TPM is the best the Prequels ever got.

Yay! The last 3 posts haven't even mentioned ROTJ! Well done OT.com for not being stereotypical prequel haters.

I'm not a stereotypical prequel hater. I hate the PT for what it is, not what it's presumed to be. =P

ROTJ is good, it used to be my favorite specifically because of the Emperor. Although re watching it I can understand how much more I wanted from it.

That's the problem: George deliberately sabotaged this film so we could never have a perfect trilogy. ROTJ is the lynchpin of the entire franchise; depending on how you view it, the franchise went downhill either in the early 80s or late 90s, and is now either half bad or mostly bad.
