Really good 35mm stock has about a resolution of 6K. I'm not 100% certain what resolution a release print would have, but best guess is much less. Besides an overall softness, however, you can get Blu Ray quality material from a properly scanned and restored release print, assuming it's a good print (see mverta's SW Legacy).

Yeah, I'm looking at the restored 35mm shot of Lando from Harmy's Empire Despecialized 2.0 and it might as well be Blu Ray. Thanks for clearing that up.
