C'mon, EA. This feels like an incomplete game.

Do we KNOW these aren't included? I'm pretty pumped at what we've seen so far. Between this and that new Godzilla game I'm finally starting to want a PS4...

But yeah, I really hope (and kind of just assumed) space battles would be included.

I was never into Battlefront. Not my type of game. I enjoy story-focused games Star Wars games like SWTOR, KOTOR, DF1/2, JK2, JKA.

Same here. I played both BF & BFII but it gets old really fast.

Well that is discouraging. If true.

While I probably will play this one, I totally agree with you. I'm sure there won't be much story in this game though (if any) because it's basically just an online multiplayer shooter. And who knows, we might get more backstory for the battle in Ep 7 than the game will even show.

Battlefront 2 had a short but interesting singleplayer campaign, though. My hope is that they will at least make a similar campaign to connect the OT to the new movies, like from the Battle of Endor to wherever TFA's grand finale will take place. I'm not expecting too much, though.

no dice.  (DICE... get it?)  Anyway, looks like there's no campaign. Just Missions with or without co-op (your choice). Whatever that means.

Doesn't that just mean the same as BF II campaigns but without the silly FMV scenes? I was a bit concerned at first, but for this type of game I guess it's not really important. They're still fairly disconnected battles. It's the lack of full space battles that's more of a bummer. I'm sure they'll have an addon for $39.99 next year to remedy that.

But what I really want is a newfangled Rogue Squadron type game, anyway.

Yeah, I'm sure if this game is profitable for EA (and it will be) we will see space battles in either DLC or the next Battlefront game. This is a reboot of sorts so I think it's wise that they are trying to master land battles before adding too much.

And yes, Rouge Squadron was great. Hopefully this has the same spirit for the in-atmosphere dog fights at least.

Stood in line for the panel for this for more hours than I want to remember and then our little group got shut out about two feet from the door, so we didn't get in and didn't get the sweet shirt. This event really should have been put in the big arena and I guarantee they would have filled it. Oh well.

Event logistical issues aside, this game has my money already. It's made me consider rethinking my "no more preorders" policy, in fact. It looks gorgeous. And anyone who has played the last two Battlefield games should understand when I say that I'm glad they're not doing a single player campaign, as DICE trends to waste a lot of development time and money on those, and they're always lackluster. The lack of set classes is really interesting to me, and make me wonder if this is how they will be handling customization when we really don't see to much difference in the look of Star Wars soldiers and especially weapons.

As a person who played both of the original Pandemic Battlefronts and realized they were basically cheap Battlefield knock-offs and always wished that DICE had made them, this is like a dream come true for me. Hopefully they put a bit more effort into making it work before they launch them, unlike Battlefield 3 and 4.

I was set to finally pick up a PS4 for this, but no campaign has put the brakes on that. Also, the lack of any gameplay footage at this stage doesn't inspire confidence. I'm not a fan of Dice's games in general but I'm hoping they do something good with this.

So far they've just shown themselves larking about at Lucasfilm and a graphics showreel. Big deal.

Same thing happened to me.  Now I am really bummed knowing I could have had a shirt too.  There was probably about 20 to 30 people in front of me when they stopped letting people in completely.  I probably saw you there when I was looking through the people ahead of me trying to see if there was any hope to get in.

I really liked Battlefront 1 and I didn't like 2 as much.  I played 1 maybe a year or two ago and it still worked.  There was one server with about 15 people on it.  :-)

Split-screen couch co-op.
Offline play.
A buddy system where you can always be teamed with and spawn with your buddy, and you share unlockable weapons.
These are all incredible offerings.

Campaigns for multi-player focused games always go poorly. It's better we don't pretend the same character fought and survived every major canon battle in the game. It made sense in Battlefront 2 because it was clones.

Splitscreening and spawning with your buddy...

This will go against my last post a bit, but we do have to remember that the last two Battlefield launches were fraught with bugs, some of which are only just now being addressed in BF4 almost two years later.

Here's a link to a Reddit thread that details what we know: http://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBattlefront/comments/33h9ax/dice_star_wars_battlefront_info_thread/

Been meaning to comment on this for a while now that the game is out, but in case anyone was wondering, this game is a phenomenal representation of the original trilogy. A lot of people are complaining that there’s no single player story, space battles, etc., but personally I’m having a blast. It looks incredibly beautiful and makes me feel like I’m in the universe of the original trilogy more than anything else I’ve ever experienced in my life. Maybe it’s not a shooter for the “hardcore gamer” but it’s just so much damn fun. Seeing Hoth, Endor, and Tatooine in such beautiful fidelity, in an interactive way is jaw-dropping. Besides this being a great star wars experience, it’s probably the best looking/sounding video game I’ve ever seen. On top of that, the love of star wars that has been put into this game, fills every inch of the screen. From the wilhelm screams to the sparks from practical-effect-looking explosions & scorch marks on the side of the ships, you can tell the developers at DICE wanted to make you feel like you are IN the grungy, pre-CGI world of star wars. No small feat for a video game.

If I have one gripe with the game it’s that the voice-work isn’t quite up to par with the rest of the game and Boba Fett’s voice is more like the voice from the prequels. But that’s my only complaint because everything else is a PERFECT representation of the OT.
If any of you play video games or want to start playing them again, you owe it to yourself to try this game. It IS lacking some content like more maps & game modes, but DICE is releasing more of these for free, starting with the Battle of Jakku expansion coming tomorrow FOR FREE.

VERY SLIGHT SPOILER for events that happened before Ep. 7 The Force Awakens:
If you wanna see the battle that brought down THAT star destroyer in the force awakens trailer, check out this video. Keep in mind this is supposed to have been right after the death star was destroyed in ROTJ and none of this happens in The Force Awakens, so it’s not really much of a spoiler for the movie. But here it is! You’ve been warned.

I’m enjoying the game. It seems that hardcore online FPS players are disappointed in the lack of content compared to other modern day shooters. I get that they want to stand up to publishers, especially EA, releasing modern games with minimal content and the rest behind a pay wall. But, as an outsider who has stuck with offline games pretty much exclusively (since maybe Unreal Tournament and Quake III), I guess I don’t know what I’m missing and can just enjoy the game.

I don’t play online games as much as I used to, but i’ve played the most recent battlefield games and while I liked them, to me they are TOO in-depth. I guess I’m just getting older with less time than I used to have (33, married) but they got a little overwhelming to me. Battlefront is a breath of fresh air. It’s got enough customization to keep it interesting but not so much that you’ll spend hours trying to figure out what gun is best and which of the 20 different attachments/camouflage for it you should use. o_O

The game is so gorgeous I wish there was a “tourist” mode, just to be able to enjoy the scenery peacefully !

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

I got this game for Christmas and it is fantastic, but I haven’t played the online modes yet. Do you HAVE to have a PS+ subscription to play online? Is there any way to play the online game modes (essentially the heart of the game) without paying a subscription fee?

Author

My little brothers and I got a PS4 this Christmas with that Battlefront bundle. If you press Multiplayer, the next screen will inform you about PS+. However, there’s an option on that same screen to select a 2 day trial without inputing any information, such as credit card. It’s literally hop in and play for those two days. We just finished that two day trial and had quite a lot of fun but yeah, it’s a huge bummer of how much of this game is a cash grab if not playing on PC.

And sadly yes, a bulk of content is online only.

Yeah I saw the free 2 day trial. It’s almost entirely worthless to me as I’m able to play maybe an hour a day tops (married, kids, basically no free time). Which also makes the subscription service seem rather a waste of money. I knew it was primarily a multiplayer game but I just assumed it was like the previous Battlefront games where you could play all the multiplayer stuff offline against bots if you wanted. Rather disappointed that’s not the case. Even more so considering what single player options there are are TREMENDOUSLY fun to me and I want so badly to play the rest of the content! I know a lot of people find this kind of game shallow, especially if you play alone. But for me it’s perfect because I can jump right in for 30 minutes while the kids are napping and have an absolute blast living out an awesome adrenaline filled Star Wars experience and then put it away as soon as they wake up without worrying about when I’ll be able to get back to it and finish that complex story-driven sequence. (I love great story driven games too, they’re just much harder to get into and play when you have such severely limited time available).

Oh well, I guess I’ll just enjoy the parts I can and hope the maybe dice will make the rest of the stuff available to single players in the future. Maybe I’ll look into trying the subscription just for kicks and see how it is. I saw something about a one or two week free trial for new members… Maybe it’s time to create an all new PSN login for my wife…

What really puts a nail in the coffin is considering how once the eventual EA sequel of this game comes out, players will flock to the new title and abandon the previous game. When that happens, even if you paid for multiplayer, there won’t be many players to play with. Then you’re stuck again where you’re left with a single player game that suffers immensely from content to begin with.

That’s why I’m on the fence of getting PS+ if me and my brothers will mostly use it for one measly game.

Yeah, if they’d just release an update that allowed you to play all the multiplayer stuff offline against bots I’d be happy as a clam.

At any rate, played some more single player today and OMG is this game an absolute blast!
