Things would certainly be more fun in off-topic under my light and benevolent rule.

And people who come here for the sole purpose of trying to sell their "collectibles" and getting huffy at Frink's peculiar sense of humor does not qualify as trolling.

This is very disturbing coming from a mod. Whether it was a sole purpose or not should be irrelevant, as it was a completely legitimate purpose. After all, there is a separate section dedicated to trading collectibles. The guy politely made the thread and Frink made a disrespectful and off-topic comment.

So what is then the difference between "peculiar sense of humour" and trolling?

(It must be noted that this was just one of the countless examples.)

There has been a pattern of people only posting about their supposedly rare item that sub forum, and getting upset about the lack of serious responses, and or comments about said items dubious condition.

We're not Ebay or a SW collectibles site. (Most sellers seem to come here because we tend to come up tops in search engines.) I have tried to be helpful, but some people just get upset when nobody is offering to throw money at them.

If you title a topic "curious" and somebody makes a bi-curious joke, overreacting to said joke speaks more about you than the joke maker.

It is really simple. Facts are: the guy did nothing wrong (no matter what you personally think about his trade), and Frink broke at least one forum rule in this particular example (off-topic posting, but in reality he was also disrespectful).

It is really pointless that you specifically defend him in this particular example anyway, because I could just provide another one.

Hey thanks for pointing that out. I posted something that I could actually help make Off-Topic better. http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Get-rid-of-Off-Topic-in-its-current-form/post/764070/#TopicPost764070

Let’s be honest, “light moderation” is a fancy term for “let’s ban few specific individuals simply because we don’t like them”. Like corrupt politicians when they make some fancy sounding laws with a sole purpose to enable them exploit something they desire.

It is funny that some of you, unlike me, have been actually braking the forum rules (sock accounts, direct insults etc.). And the most most hilarious thing is that, of all people, a well-known troll was nominated as a potential moderator. 😄

Aside from whatever issue there was over collectibles, there is some truth in this. We do have some members, since I’ve been a member here, that can clutter up some of the project threads with off-topic remarks and the like, and they seem to get a wider birth than say someone people may have ganged up on.

I think another example of something that speaks poorly about things here … is that the TeamNegative1 thread is still in the announcements. Since the matter was decided upon there is no good reason I can see for it to remain … it seems almost childish … like the site is still sticking it’s proverbial tongue at people because somehow it “destroyed the most hated team of people” on the Internet.

If the rules are gonna be lax for some, they should be lax for all. I am for the moderation of off-topic until we can at least learn to better moderate ourselves equally within the boundaries already laid out by the rules that are in place now.

Good luck with that. It sounds quite reasonable.

Last time I checked there are still people who are clueless, if not misinformed about what happened. (We also have someone who’s made a very disturbing post on social media recently who thinks we have done TN1 a terrible wrong. About as close to making a personal threat as you can get away with.) Does this site not have the right to keep the facts in public view?

If you think that announcement should come down, please talk to Jay about it.

Jay has already publicly told me how he felt about how I felt so I take that as his final word on the matter. That thread does not display all the relevant information regarding the situation so it is itself a bit misleading. I did not know about the threat. That said, I do believe the site should take a positive stand towards it, not a negative one, we aren’t just a bunch of cavemen living in their parents basements are we? Okay maybe I am, LOL, but that’s an entirely different discussion.
