Can I make that thread?
Don’t do drugs, unless you’re with me.
Please don't take my personal frustrations with off topic as any sort of official position on it's future. It's not.
And thanks for the expressions of support and confidence. :)

All that happens is that I can not follow many of the conversations in a thread because part of it is blocked.
So basically, if you don't want to interact with someone then no one should be allowed to either just because it is inconvenient to you.
That's what I seem to be getting from this thread. =/
I just think trolls need to be dealt with.
And your definition of a "troll" seem to be "someone who is inconvenient to me".
inconvenient? no incredibly annoying and insulting a offensive? yes, someone who is all that doesn't want to be anything else or almost doesn't want to be anything else is my definition of a troll.
Not who is, but someone who you subjectively think he/she is to you.

Yes. I can't wait for the twist.

I'm not against a little light moderation performed by myself...but deleting off-topic? Moving it to another place? To quote Dom's user title, what the fuck is this?
There's nothing terribly wrong with off-topic. Sure, it's a moronathon, but it's *our* moronathon. If it disappeared, I probably would too. And if we had a vote about getting rid of it, I'd absolute vote against doing so.
NOTE TO WARB: DO NOT MAKE A THREAD WHERE WE VOTE ON GETTING RID OF OFF-TOPIC
I wasn't talking about getting rid of Off Topic, just separating it from the rest of the forum. It just seems to me that the powers that here don't like the Off Topic to much and don't what to have much to do with it. That is ok, they don't have to care about Off Topic. When Jay created the forum, he had no idea what the Off Topic section would become and he doesn't like it and doesn't want anything to do with it. I understand that. But for those that post here, it is something special. It is our hangout, our Cheers if you will. I care about this place and so do others and we are allowed to care. For all intents and purposes Off Topic is leaderless and rudderless ship and I think that is part the problems we are having here. Maybe my idea is crazy and stupid and bad, but I had it in my head and just wanted to put it out there. If everyone thinks it is crazy and stupid and it, it doesn't need to go any further than this. I want to make it clear that I mean no disrespect to Jay and the moderators. If they don't care about Off Topic and don't want to moderate, that is fine. I just they'd let someone who did care, take over Off Topic.

What would that accomplish?
1. We'd no longer be Jay's problem, I'm sure he'd be happy about that.
2. We'd have someone in charge that would care about Off Topic. Instead of being Jay's restroom, we'd be our own bar.
3. It would be possible to ban someone from Off Topic but not ban them from the rest of the forum and vice versa.
4. It seems to me we've spawned something different from the rest of the forum. There seems to be a divide between the rest of the forum and Off Topic. Many post here and don't post in the other sections and vice versa. It seems to me that we are two separate forums in one. Perhaps its time we admit that.

If that happens we should serve Sake, I'd definitely come.
Neither Warbler's Place nor Psycho_Dayv's forum went anywhere. I've seen separate boards for off-topic sections in action, and it doesn't work. I don't know if it's laziness or what, but they never seem to take off - or have the same steam - as the original board.
A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
Where did I say I was against moderation here? I just don't want to have to be the one to do it. It was never part of the job description when I accepted this gig, and I'm feeling stretched pretty thin lately.

Well, I wasn't talking about another Warbler's Place(boy, was that stupid idea and a stupid name for a forum). I was talking about a forum that would be the official Off Topic section for ot.com. We would still be affiliated. One of the reasons mine and davy's forum didn't work was we were completely separate forums. People felt that they had to choose between here and those places(even though they really didn't have to, they could have been members of both), and that was no contest. We could never generate enough membership and that wouldn't be a problem with this idea. All the forum members here would be members of the separate place. There would be no competition, ot.com would be the place to talk about Star Wars and fan edits and preservations and the new separate forum would be its off topic section.
What about a shout-box style off-topic? Would that be doable?

sorry, I thought you were coming down against, since you didn't even want this section ported over. I'll remove you from the against list. Do you wish to be added to for list?
there.

These rules apply to all forums except Off Topic. Basically, if you want to act like a moron, do it in Off Topic. I don't care what happens in there and most complaints logged against moronathons in Off Topic will be ignored.
It seems like off topic is exactly what it was intended to be.
Fanrestore - Fan Restoration Forum: https://fanrestore.com
He posted that a long time after he created the forum, and a long time after Off Topic evolved into what it is today. When he created the forum he had no idea the Off Topic section would be like this.
How about we all just have one collective round of drinks and chill out?

I'm against changing anything in off-topic other than giving me the power to ban imperialscum, ban Darth Id, and drive my turbo-fueled yacht anywhere I want.

This seems absolutely pointless though. Why not just keep it the way it is but have very light moderation? Since some of us, myself included, only want obvious trolls banned, not many members who contribute elsewhere would find themselves banned here for stepping over the line. I just don't see the need to create a new forum.
