Star Wars Digital HD Release .... April 10th — Page 9

I would think they'll come up with something more permanent when TFA is released...then replace these (hopefully) temporary ones.  IF they needed to go the "existing" music route... A low key force theme would have made more sense.

I would have preferred silence during the Lucasfilm logo. Why does there need to be any music during it? Anything other than the Fox fanfare doesn't sound right.

I'd prefer some sort of fanfare lead in. Not the one they've used, but something appropriate rather than silence for me.

Even a neophyte fan editor could do a better job editing Williams' score than was done here.

Took me literally 5 minutes, and I consider it sloppy and rushed. How the hell the official version got okayed though is utterly beyond me.

That is better but it's still an ending rather than an opening.

I'd imagine if someone took the open blasts of "The Throne Room" (designed to match the beginning of a triumphant scene) and truncated them you'd get something closer to the effect of the Fox fanfare.

Couldn't agree more. I think it's a completely unsuitable piece of music as a fanfare. This was just an exercise to prove that whoever knocked that together at Lucasfilm is incompetent and so are the people who approved it.

Personally, the fox intro IS Star Wars for me. I won't be watching any version with this new intro beyond episode 7. And I hope to God they realise how bad this version is before then, otherwise that's a really bad sign regarding their judgement.

Disney should do whatever they can to get the rights for the Fox fanfare. Because every single fucking employee at Lucasfilm have a collective IQ below 75 points. They won't hire you if you know how to count or read.

As I've said before on these boards, I'd love it if the main episodes from now on (7,8,9 and any possible future numbers) could open with the Fox logo/fanfare even though it's Disney distributing. I was naively hoping that Fox's ownership of distribution rights on the existing films (and Disney's desire for them) could lead to a deal where that might actually happen. But if Disney is willing to just chop the Fox logo off the other five films, yeesh, not a good sign.

The Paramount logo showed up in Avengers and Iron Man Three, but that was different. Marvel had signed a distribution deal with Paramount years earlier, before Disney bought Marvel. When Disney wanted to buy Paramount out of the last two movies in their distribution deal, Paramount stipulated that their logo remain in those movies. Fox has no such pre-existing legal leverage over Disney.

The spin-offs (Rogue One, Josh Trank's untitled and any future ones) can do their own thing logo-wise for all I care.

We always have to get the raw deal, the -∞/10 treatment, the absolute worst scenario possible when it comes with Star Wars. We have to do all the work just to watch the originals, we're stuck with VHS and Laserdisc when the rest of the world is in 4K and digital, and we have a franchise creator who laughs at every single one of our miseries. And now Disney comes in to make us pine for the glory days of Hayden Christensen.

Does Episode II still have the teal filter and those strange reordered shots? The latest trailer was able to fool me if it's still there.

Same here, even though I knew deep down that would never happen. It's like with the Hobbit movies. I'd hoped that the licensing issue with MGM wouldn't impact on the opening New Line Cinema intro, so we could still have continuity with Lord of the Rings. Instead we get 35 seconds of 3 different logos - Warner Bros, New Line, and finally the MGM lion. Ridiculous.

The best we can hope for is that this was a rushed placeholder to prime us for not seeing the Fox intro anymore, meanwhile Williams is composing the actual new fanfare ready for TFA. My concern is that even as a rushed placeholder, the transition is so horrendous that I'm having serious doubts about their quality control process. If they can fuck up an intro, what are they doing with the movie?

Star Wars and quality control have been mutually exclusive since 1983. Disney is just carrying on the tradition of impossible to fathom incompetence.

The amount of issues such as transparency that slipped through in the SE shows that there was always a degree of incompetence when it came to post-ROTJ Star Wars. Lucas's decisions, as well as quality control over the years have been beyond baffling, and he's done nothing but try to sink his own ship before jumping from it, it seems. Disney is a huge upgrade from Lucas, even if the problems are still there.

Why do people act like Disney is the harbinger of (continuing) doom or something?

Not humanly - or inhumanly - possible. I'm hard pressed to come up with a performance in all of film history that I hate as much as I despise that mushmouthed, testosterone-deficient, barely sentient canuck mannequin's rendition of that character ostensibly meant to be the selfsame Darth Vader we all know and love.

TFA might be good. It might be bad. But in the whole of the spectrum of possible outcomes, nothing exists that would ameliorate in the slightest the absolute nadir of cinematic dramaturgy that Hayden Christensen's performance as that male character inexplicably named "Annie" represents.

Mentioning MGM got me thinking.

If MTM could pastiche the MGM logo maybe Lucasfilm could have an LFL logo with Chewie replacing the lion :-D

Did you really have to bring his nationality into this?

Whatever your opinion of Hayden's acting, I don't think he deserves such insults. I've seen plenty of his non Star Wars films, and he's actually pretty good in them. Tone it down, please?

Perhaps I can explain it to you.  He's named Anakin (not Annie). Many of us have cutesy nicknames when we are little thanks to our parents, and his mom gave him the nickname Ani (not Annie).

While a little extreme in his wording, I agree with Akton in spirit. I hold nothing but contempt for Hayden and what he did to the character of Anakin Skywalker. Though yes, a lot of the responsibility for that lies in the hands of the writer.

Hayden delivered the performance George wanted. You can't fault him for that.

I never thought of the PT in this way, but looking up a list of films covering characters w/ various mental disorders, it showed AOTC and ROTS under borderline personality disorder for the character, Anakin.  Now, I'll have to watch the films again, to see if that diagnosis is really accurate.  Maybe I could view at least very small part of the PT in a more positive light from a very obscure point of view.

One interesting point: I'm seeing the movies on Vudu, and they are all available under Disney Movies Anywhere except ANH. I guess Fox retained distribution rights or at least digital distribution rights in the purported deal that was made in the late 90s to transfer the copyright to Lucasfilm?

...really, nobody cares about this? It's the most fascinating part!

I agree. Lucas should of based Anakin on how he was described in the OT, not some teenage psychopath rapist, let alone one named Ani

A pederast is something that doesn't last very long in jail.

Rapist, huh? I don't remember Ani forcing himself on anyone. Not on-screen, anyway.
