108 dollars before government taxes and fees
What an odd thing to say.
108 dollars before government taxes and fees is how much the collection is on fios. For some new bonus features, no thanks!
No original cuts of the movies no ability to rent only the special features. Sorry no sale.
I would pay 90 bucks just for the original cuts of the original trilogy, with no prequels and no bonus materials, limited to no cleanup. As long as the films had their original audio mixes, the original colors and original effects.
It is so insane that the last release was done in 1993.
Lucasfilm can rot until the oot is released.
Disney's unwillingness to release the theatrical versions of the original trilogy is going to sour the experience for me going in to see the force awakens.
Though they will not care as they will have my money. Unless i am willing to boycott a film i want to see.

Just thought if this release has support for multiple languages. Finding a matching English Dolby 5.1 and Spanish Dolby 5.1 mixes would allow extraction of the voices and music as separate elements, which is an absolute necessity for PT edits.
Any know if the specs on any of the digital formats have two different languages both in Dolby 5.1 so I could test it out?
If previous releases were only 2.0 for alt languages, I don't know why it would be any different this time.

Took me literally 5 minutes, and I consider it sloppy and rushed. How the hell the official version got okayed though is utterly beyond me.

They had 5.1 dolby alt languages on the blurays... just the english was dts so it didn't match. unless I could just take the dolby 5.1 english from the digital release to use against an alt language from my bluray copy...
I could justify the purchase if the deleted scenes were HD, since I wouldn't know whether the mixes match till I go through the multi-step phase cancelation.

Are you waiting to find out, or do you know they're SD?

if, not sure yet. Really doubt it though, I guess we'll hear soon. I especially think this since nearly every BD that has special features from previous releases are just ports from the previous DVD's (although I think they usually end up being less compressed as they get sourced from the SD masters).
Sorry, I took "were" to imply maybe they're not. And I'm hoping at the very least it's a better encode from the SD master.

You're absolutely right Sky. The sad thing about holy grails is that no one gets them. The Force Awakens is going to suck anyways, OOT or not.

No problem, I'd be honoured :)
Edit: Just followed you too, though I don't really use twitter.
Sometimes I wonder why I even try.

Go to Lucasfilm and personally ask them to stop. They made me the repetitive, pessimistic person that I am on these forums.
I'm sorry to say this, but every change they make to the OT is always the most incompetent and terrible decision ever made by any human being in any point in history. I just want the version that existed before the 97 SE. You can get me to shut up if someone mails me a good fan preservation.
Now you tell us?

The important thing is that we're nicely on topic. Anyone watch the extras exclusive to this release? Are they any good?

At least it's the best we're ever going to get, since an official release will likely never come (especially if Fox is stupidly walking away from the physical media market).

1) You don't know TFA will suck. It is impossible for anyone to know this yet.
2) Spare me any "yes I do" comments. We've already heard them.
3) This thread has NOTHING TO DO WITH TFA

I stand by my belief that a low key rendition of the force theme would do just fine as a fanfare.
Couldn't resist experimenting with a "what could have been". Though the music is a bit long for the length of the Lucasfilm logo animation.

So far though they haven't refused to release anything. I never would have expected them to debut the OOT for the first time in years over an online digital sale.
Also, I'll only see TFA if there's an acceptable blu ray copy of the OOT sitting on my shelf. I really don't even want to see it that much anyway so me going would really just be more out of gratitude for an OOT release than anything.
The Person in Question
Refusing to see TFA isn't going to affect Disney's plans. And we don't know what Disney intends for the OOT. This digital release thing was a quick way for them to get the movies out there on a platform it hasn't been available through before, with a minimum of effort.
The picture will either be a lot clearer after Celebration next week or not.

I'm not naive enough to think that it actually would affect anything. I'm just being honest; I really have no desire to see TFA at the moment because without the OUT I really can't get excited about Star Wars. Also, to be clear, I don't think TFA will be bad or anything, and I'm sure that the excitement of watching the OUT on blu ray would get me hyped for TFA, but at the moment I just can't appreciate the Star Wars franchise as the treatment of the original films over the past 20 years has left me pretty sour to the whole thing. I'll hope for the best at Celebration.

That is better but it's still an ending rather than an opening.
I'd imagine if someone took the open blasts of "The Throne Room" (designed to match the beginning of a triumphant scene) and truncated them you'd get something closer to the effect of the Fox fanfare.
A user at TF.N reports that all legacy content is presented in plain ol' SD. No word on how it compare to the DVD in terms of gritty, nitpicky detail.
