Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 533

The link doesn't work for me either, but if the posts after yours are any indication, then I'm guessing someone is trying to show Despecialized and have people pay to see it, which is a legal shitstorm waiting to happen.

My guess is, if the link is not available to everyone, not just the people that commented, then they took it down. Whether it was the person(s) that started the page or Facebook, I don't know.

It’s really sad when the “creative minds” behind something we hold dear are also guilty of its destruction.

Yeah, it won't open for me now either, so I'm guessing it was taken down.

Should probably expect a lot of unwanted attention soon. The official Youtube channel just dropped a bunch of trailers for the upcoming digital release and the comment sections are filled with people advising others to skip it and torrent Despecialized instead. =/

I went to check the trailers and if the footage is from the actual releases then wait until Harmy and all the OT restoration people looks at those color changes they made, what a massacre haha

On the bright side, I'm not actually seeing that many "get despecializized instead" comments but there are tons (actually vast majority) of comments saying that if this is the SE, they're not interested - far more so than when the BDs came out four years ago, so that sends the right kind of message and shows that the public opinion has shifted and our campaign to make people informed about the issue has worked.

I expect that the availability of the Despecialized Edition itself has contributed somewhat to that shift in attitude.  Before, the only way anybody could see the films in a modern format was to get the DVD's or Blurays, so they put up with the changes because they had to—perhaps rationalizing them away as being "not that bad".  Now, with a bit of effort it's possible for anybody to see the original versions in high quality.  The superior artistic merits of the originals speak for themselves, especially when presented on equal footing with the official releases and not hindered by low resolution and other problems.

If sales of this digital release are lower due to increased demand for the original versions, Disney really only have themselves to blame for not putting them out themselves.

All I know is this fish is not going to bit!

looking for HDTV of the  Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.  Also HDTV of The Lord of the Rings trilogy

For me the problem never was the special edition(s), it's the "right" to choose between the original theatrical and the other versions.

Ridley Scott, for instance, never loved the original theatrical version of Blade Runner, but ALL versions are available on Bluray.

For me the best part of this news is that if Disney and Fox can manage to work together for a VOD release, there don't seem to be legal problems in the way for official release of the original version of the OT.

I also wonder if anyone in charge of releases knows about the Despecialized Editions. They've been gaining traction over the last few years and have a sizable following outside of this site. I'm wondering if there's a possibility that they would believe that fans would consider the DE good enough, thus to them having no obligation to release the originals. Or, and more preferably, it shows Disney/Lucasfilm the demand for the OOT and the lengths fans will go to in order to see the originals in decent quality.

Disney would much more likely take poor sales as an indication to abandon effort on the originals and focus on new stuff, rather than "learn their lesson," eat crow, and put out originals.  That's just corporation 101.

So where can I download this without having to get an invite?

Author

Yeah, I have no expectation that Disney would ever actually understand what people really want, or how to go about giving it to them.  They probably make little distinction between the different versions, and consider them to be the same movies.

It's unlikely that anything we do will affect their corporate strategies in any significant way.  It's just encouraging to note the shift in public opinion, since it provides motivation to keep up the work we're doing.

It is quite a paradox isn't it.

You don't need any invite to myspleen get the torrent. It has spread to other open torrent sites. Not sure if I am allowed to post the link here. However the torrent's hash is 756A3641E063D773ADFF18BFC73E0901FA14C24F and if you google that you will find it.

PS I was led here by an article in The Guardian, so you'll no doubt get some attention from that!

It really is nice to have it proven possible that someone who just registered today can google and find a torrent for this.

It seems like it should be straight forward. But the constant bombardment of requests has me doubting it sometimes.

Welcome!

Thanks, I am glad my post wasn't out of line because honestly I was too impatient to read 533 pages LOL.

Looking forward to watching this!

Would I be correct to assume that the bitrate of these new "digital"(everything is digital)is horrendous compared to the Blu-rays?

Unless they have the Prequel Trilogy deleted scenes in HD, I don't see any reason to buy any of the "digital" releases at all if you have the 2011 blu-rays.

Harmy am I right in saying that the 'forced' English subtitles are burned into the video stream? I watched the 'who shot first' scene at about 49 minutes and the subtitles appeared for Han and Greedo, even though I have no subs turned on.

No problem with that, just checking I haven't done anything wrong.
