The less forum friendly we become, the more people are going to decide to leave.  We all have opinions but the point is everyone signed up here has a right to be in any part of the forum they want .... that is why it's a forum.

Look, Frink and I don't always see things the same but the internet is cold and translating peoples intention through words they type is about as easy as finding "a paticular needle in a haystack of needles" unless you know them SO well that you just know.  Learning to co-exist is part and parcel to being a forum member, anywhere, if one cannot come to terms with this reality one must question what it is they really want from a forum.

Signed.

Bingo was one of the people here when I joined in '09, and he made me feel welcome. There are several people I would sign this for to return if they were in Bingo's place. I don't post on here near as much as I used to, so I don't quite know the details of the various arguments that have taken place, and I honestly couldn't give 2 shits.

People say things I don't like all the time, but I don't give those statements any momentum by firing back.

I have long held this forum in high regard, for the respect most members give one another. Let us continue down this road. It's okay to disagree, but nothing truly gets accomplished by fighting over the internet.

You can ignore somebody without hitting the ignore button. Just scroll past their comments, like I know you will scroll past this one for being long-winded. ('o')

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Perhaps in a cordial thread I shouldn't have brought up my issues with him.  But I reiterate again, he is welcome back whenever he wants.  I never meant to drive him away, and I too love his sense of humor.  There are several things he has done that I found particularly rude to me specifically, not the least of which was not only a lack of apology in any particular disagreement, but a flat out refusal to do so, saying he only apologizes when he believes he did something wrong.  In other words, in every disagreement, while I would do my best to straighten things out and smooth things over, I was always 100% to blame in his mind.  I miss the nice side of Bingowings, but all of him, rude and self-righteous or peacemaker and humorist, is welcome to return whenever he wants.  I never sent him away and was surprised at such a dramatic move.  I'll continue to try to make things work if he ever decides to return.

So people found some of the shit Bingo said to be annoying. Who cares.

um . . . the people that found some of the sh** Bingo said to be annoying?

I really dislike it when people say "who cares".  I could say that in reply to almost any complain or argument.  What sene does saying something like that make?

Do you really, honestly care, though? Does it really matter that he posted some things that you found annoying?

There are some posters here who post shit that everyone finds annoying (I won't name names, but if you're sane enough to realize the possibility that something you post might be annoying, it's not you).

well, since I realize the possiblity I might post something that might annoy someone(and perhaps have already do so),  I guess I am not one of the persons in question.

You are correct.

There are some members here who could do with less time spent in this sub forum too.

perhaps this is meant at me, but who cares?

For you and the others who took offense to this, I do not mean that I think that there are some posters that I would prefer didn't post in off-topic, I just think there are some posters who often get a bit too worked up when they spend too much time here.

it matters to me.  He got in the way of me enjoying this forum.  He insulted me and my religion and was very hurtful, LOTS of times.   He was always disrespectiful towards me.    Now, if had only taken part in a very small amount of conversations, I might be able to put up with it.   But he was in almost every conversation in off topic.   He'd turn almost every conversation into how the Bible says gays should be put to death.   As Ender says everything was always the other guy's fault and never ever did he even remotely come anywhere near close to doing anything wrong.

perhaps.  But you must remember for some people, this is their hangout, their pub/club/bar if you will.   Some of us don't have friends or hangouts in the real world, so this is the closest thing they have.   When others come in and get in the way of their enjoyment of this place(their hangout/bar/pub), it can be very frustrating and troublesome

I guess one of the reasons I don't is that I suck at humor.   But I do believe there times and situations when wit, dry or otherwise, doesn't belong in political/relgious subjects.   These can be very sensitive subjects sometimes one must proceed with caution.

I disagree. One of the main purposes of humor is to desecrate, one should be able to have a laugh even at very serious matters. Nothing should ever be "untouchable", because if you can't joke about X then you can't joke about Y, Z and so on. Then what?

first you say one of the main purposes of humor is to desecrate,  then you say nothing should be untouchable?   really?   I'm sorry, some things shouldn't be desecrated.  I am not saying you can never have a laugh with serious subject, I am just saying that there are some situations where making a joke is not right or appropiate.

And why is it wrong to proceed with caution when dealing with sensitive subjects?

as for where to draw the line, I think you are smart enough to realize that there are some subjects that are sensitive and touchy and some that are not.

I don't trust anyone who takes life too seriously.

well then I guess you don't trust me.

If your faith/opinions are strong, no joke will bother you, small or big, tasteful or tasteless.

that is just simply untrue.  It is true no joke would be able to shake your faith, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't bother or offend you.

Salman Rushdie said:

“Nobody has the right to not be offended. That right doesn't exist in any declaration I have ever read.

If you are offended it is your problem, and frankly lots of things offend lots of people.

I can walk into a bookshop and point out a number of books that I find very unattractive in what they say. But it doesn't occur to me to burn the bookshop down. If you don't like a book, read another book. If you start reading a book and you decide you don't like it, nobody is telling you to finish it.

To read a 600-page novel and then say that it has deeply offended you: well, you have done a lot of work to be offended.”
http://www.renegademothering.com/2013/07/09/why-nobody-cares-that-youre-offended-and-they-shouldnt/

I don't know much about Salman Rushdie, but I can't I like his attitude much.  This isn't about whether someone has the right to go through life without being offended, of course they don't.  This is about whether it is right to offend someone and whether someone has the right to feel offended.  Would it be unreasonable to him for an African American to be offended by someone  calling him the the n-word?  Is it right to call an African American that word?   Would it be unreasonable to him for a Jewish person to be offended by someone making a joke about the Holocaust? Is it right to make such a joke?     Of course no one has the right to burn down bookstore cause  they are offended by some book!   But that doesn't mean they don't have the right to be offended and say that they are offended.   And I don't think I give up the right to be offended by something in a book just because I read the whole thing through.   Even if a book a offends you, it makes sense to read the whole thing through, that way you fully understand what it is saying.  It also lowers the chance of misunderstandings.   Sometimes one can think something in a book is offensive, but they'd read through the whole book, they'd realize they were wrong.  Or do you think I should stop reading a post the moment when I see something that offends me?  That I shouldn't read to the whole post make sure I understand what the person is say?

and I would someone would care about the Jewish person being offended at a joke about the Holocause.  If not, there is something wrong with society.

It don't already know what shouldn't be desecrated, it is difficult to explain it.

I am not saying you can never have a laugh with serious subject, I am just saying that there are some situations where making a joke is not right or appropiate.

Same as above. Tell me where is that written.

allow me to re-write what I wrote aboove

I am not saying you can never have a laugh with a serious subject, I am just saying that there are some situations where making some kinds of jokes is not right or appropiate.

for example: if a a Holocaust survivor was talking about his experiences in a concentration camp, do you think it would be right to make a joke like this:

"boy the holocause sure was a gasser wasn't it?"

come on, you really want to tell me there is no such thing as an inappropriate joke?  no such thing as something that isnt' a laughing matter?

And why is it wrong to proceed with caution when dealing with sensitive subjects?

as for where to draw the line, I think you are smart enough to realize that there are some subjects that are sensitive and touchy and some that are not.

Maybe I'm not, maybe I'm a dumb cunt. Don't patronize me.

whatever.

I don't trust anyone who takes life too seriously.

well then I guess you don't trust me.

Yes. I mean you no harm, but you sound like a stuffy old bore. Have fun sighing your way to the grave.

Then what? You get offended and then what? Your nose bleeds? Your spleen ruptures, your ankle catches fire?

Or do you suck it up and get on with your life?

so I have no right to complain about things that offend and bother me.

Oh, there's another option, isn't there? Winging. Wonderful.

Yes, I have the right to offend you.

you have the right, but that doesn't make it the right thing to do.

Yes, you have the right to be offended.

thankyou for saying so.

Yes, me and everyone else in the world have the right to not give a shit about it.

true, but again that doesn't make it the right thing to do.  Sometimes people should give a sh** about it when people say offensive things.

No, no one asked you to move this conversation here.
