The petition to cordially invite Bingowings to return to OT... — Page 2

I don't even mind bizarre conspiracy theories, as long as the debate doesn't devolve to the depths he tried to take it, with insulting my religion and trying to paint me as some homosexual-hating bigot.  It makes for poor debate and harsh feelings.

Of course I'd like Bingo to return, but it's his decision to make. :)

 Bingo wasn't a cordial guy.

I honestly can't see what you people see in the guy.    To me, he was rude and obnoxious, anti-religion and bound and convinced that I hated gays(despite the fact that I constantly defended gay rights).    He turned every discussion into how the Bible says homesexuals should be put to death.  He never even slightly considered that he was wrong about anything and never apologized for anything.  No one can be on a forum like this for so long without doing somthing worthy of apologizing for.  He delighted in lecturing me and telling all that was wrong with me, again and again and again.  For me, off topic has been so much better without him.  Sorry, but that is the truth.

Someone please explain what it is you see in that guy that makes you want him to return.

I've tried placing him on ignore, it doesn't work   All the happens is that I can't understand the half the conversations taking place here because he is in most of them.

Ahh...

This isn't about someone enjoying the forum, this is about someone(Bingo) ruining it for someone else(Warbler).

...but we enjoy you both...so how about a truce and a pint to sort things out?

A lack of controversy is nice for an afternoon tea, but makes for a decidedly dull forum experience...simply standing around nodding pleasingly at one another likely thins the lurkers and strains the remaining members for subject matter. You are a fine and considerate debater, and I enjoy our brief disagreements as it provides an opportunity to reason through the eyes of another, but should we simply be content to agree profusely would not much dialog necessarily devolve into a series of platitudes and affirmations? Dull stuff...dull stuff indeed...

Kindly reconsider: signing this petition shall allow you three entire rally calls to be used whenever you should so desire...they shall be honored at any time and have no date of expiry...simply imagine the possibilities!

Praetorian

I will not sign this.  However, I don't mind if he comes back.  I liked him for a long time.  But I could not carry on many conversations with him.  He cannot carry on debate without resorting to low tactics, and obviously carries a low opinion of me because of my religion.  I also told him not to let a disagreement keep him away, but apparently if I won't put up with such nonsense and TV's Frink says his views are too extreme for rational thought, then it is too much to carry on.  So he took his ball and left.  I never said I didn't want him here, nor that he couldn't come back.  But I've already documented why he cannot argue with dignity.

Certainly I understand your position...I wish only to put forward, but a slight nudge towards a reconciliation...no embracing is required, only a cordial invitation to resume participation. That you do not have a desire to bar such an event is to be appreciated...it is merely hoped that extending a more welcoming opening for a return in good faith might set an improved tone against future disagreements...but certainly no real pressure should exist to do so...however it would not be honest to suggest other than that acquiring your support in this effort would be extremely welcome...!

I've tried sorting it out with him again and again.  The guy doesn't listen to me and doesn't consider the slightest possiblity of him being in the wrong in any part of our disagreements.  It takes two people to sort things out and he hasn't seemed to want to try.

Who said we have to agree about everything?  We can have disagreements and have interesting discussions about them without it being rude and insulting and resorting to low blows.   There are multiple people whom I've disagreed with that I wish would return to posting more often(Ferris, CP3S, Mrebo).   You see, the problem isn't that Bingo disagrees with me, its the way he does it.

Kindly reconsider: signing this petition shall allow you three entire rally calls to be used whenever you should so desire...they shall be honored at any time and have no date of expiry...simply imagine the possibilities!

Clarity has been offered, but only under the understanding that it is not to be used to cause further irritation: content, volume, and diversity of opinion generally equate to a stronger forum experience.

Why might these attitudes be considered paramount? Do not misunderstand: I do not mean for you to take it in the chin, as it were, but should a disagreement evolve what might prevent you from invoking a cease and desist and refraining from a direct engagement? Is there a law of gravitation that necessarily forces disagreeable discussions?

a rally call?  what is that?

You wish to examine the gift on offer, to shake it, to open it, and then return it to sender untested and untried?

A rally call is a forum power granted but rarely. It provides the receiver the ability to call upon those so bound to return a damaged discussion into positive territory. All negativity is rebuffed and redressed through the rally; the tone is reset and honor restored...

no, I will not be signing this petition.  sorry.

...would you be willing to at least reconsider standing in opposition?

So people found some of the shit Bingo said to be annoying. Who cares. I don't think I ever found anything he said to be annoying, and I know others agree. There are some posters here who post shit that everyone finds annoying (I won't name names, but if you're sane enough to realize the possibility that something you post might be annoying, it's not you).

Anyway, Bingo, I enjoy your posts. Leaving off topic seems a little petty, but if it was really working you up, I understand. There are some members here who could do with less time spent in this sub forum too. But you don't have to leave forever. We want you back!

You were talking about sorting things out.  I am telling you that is impossible when one side(Bingo) is unwilling to try.  I have tried to sort things out and failed again and again, because it was always a one sided effort.

As for what might prevent me from "invoking a cease and desist and refraining from a direct engagement", was in so much of the forum, the only to refrain from direct engagement would be to either leave the forum or put him on ignore which makes understanding conversations going difficult.

no exactly, I just wanted more info.

seems nice, but I remain unchanged.

I am not a mod here.  I can't force him to not come back.   But I can not sign this petititon and I can not help but be opposed to it.   Sorry.

I really dislike it when people say "who cares".  I could say that in reply to almost any complain or argument.  What sene does saying something like that make?

I don't think I ever found anything he said to be annoying, and I know others agree.

you and they have the right to your opinions, I do as well.

(of course I could have just replied "but who cares?", but I didn't)

There are some posters here who post shit that everyone finds annoying (I won't name names, but if you're sane enough to realize the possibility that something you post might be annoying, it's not you).

well, since I realize the possiblity I might post something that might annoy someone(and perhaps have already do so),  I guess I am not one of the persons in question.

There are some members here who could do with less time spent in this sub forum too.

perhaps this is meant at me, but who cares?

With or without any "said" petition, him coming back to the off-topic forum is going to be his choice, "IR"regardless of what is said here.

I say let it go and let him do what it is he needs to do.
