PM him, maybe he is an insider of some kind.
I would take anything said on that forum with a grain of salt. ;)
Where were you in '77?

I saw that thread, he says to "call it an intuitive hunch," which could mean anything, and he states that his "hunches are never wrong." Would be very happy if this was true. It's odd though because 9/21/2015 is a Monday, and I'm under the impression new releases come out on Tuesdays, though there's no reason they couldn't come out on a Monday...

On the blu-ray.com forum, someone posted that the UOT will be released on blu-ray on 9/21/15. Seems legit, right?
I have some legit property I'd like to sell you.

Sorry, but the building that The Bunny was in front of is the Burj Khalifa, which is in the Middle East.

It should also be mentioned that the person on the Blu-ray forum didn't actually say anything at all about a UOT Blu-ray release. Just another OT Blu-ray re-release, which falls neatly into the "who the hell cares" bucket. In addition to that, they're also talking out their ass, but that's really beside the point.

If it's a new 4k release, even if it isn't the UOT, it would still be an excellent release. At least we would get a decent official transfer the likes of which haven't been seen since the 97se. I haven't heard anybody defend the 2004 restoration.

Although I would only care about .2% as much as an UOT release, a better transfer and color grading would surely be useful for projects like Harmy's.
True. I suppose "it's not really watchable in its current state, but just wait until the fan editors fix all of the major issues" is a quality tier that usually means crap for other films, but it's the gold standard for official Star Wars releases... sigh.

99.999999% of the populace wouldn't even care at all, which is exactly why - short of another reissue of the 2011 discs - the OT will not see another blu-ray release unless it includes the unaltereds.
Lucasfilm literally has no other selling points left.
That doesn't mean such a release couldn't also include a new 4k-sourced transfer of the SE (in fact, I would hope it did if they're gonna force me to buy the SE yet again), but it definitely wouldn't be marketed around anything other than the inclusion of the unaltered versions.
Maybe they will release the unaltered trilogy. Every other interview regarding Ep 7 seems to mention practical effects being used- it is an idea they are spreading around to sell the film. It certainly seems Disney is aware of the overuse of CGI in the prequels and any negativity surrounding the "updates" to the original trilogy. It is a good thing to know this is in the brains of the people in charge of StarWars.
The director himself would certainly try to recreate the feel of the original movies as opposed to the Special Editions. A perfect lead in to the new trilogy would be a release of the unaltered original trilogy.
Gotta have hope I guess.
Does anybody have the link to the interview where Bob Iger almost admits that they're working on a OOT release? When the reporter asks him about it he freezes for a second with the "how the hell do you know about that?" look on his face, then he smiles and says something like "we're thinking the same way"
He smiles and gives a coy response of "y'know, that's a pretty good idea," implying that that's exactly what they're planning but can't say anything about it yet.
The convention in Anaheim is just a few weeks away. There will doubtlessly be a lot of people there wondering the same thing we are. Disney/Lucasfilm can't expect it to go by without at least saying something about it. It's been almost two and a half years since the buyout and they haven't said a word. The elephant in the room has become too big to ignore.

This is why i think that we'll get some sort of quality presentation of the OOT on blu ray, maybe not a restoration on the same scale as 1997, but at least a transfer on par with most acceptable blu rays released today. I think that it would be too insulting to the fans to just pretend that the OOT has no place in the franchise; I think they'll give in and release a blu ray just to shut us up, and as long as the transfers are good, I'd gladly stop bashing the franchise.

In other words, a fresh transfer...by Lowry.

That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. It depends on whether Reliance Media Works (who bought-out Lowry) still uses the old Lowry's restoration methods.

As well as how much say Lowry had in the process.
Also, the SW restoration was done more than 10 years ago. I'm sure their algorithms have improved since then.
And from what I've read (from several different sources) Lowry actually had nothing to do with the colors, those were supposedly done in-house at Lucasfilm and Lowry only did the cleanup.
I for one am a lot less worried about them not releasing it than I am about them releasing something completely unsatisfying, like a 2011 blu ray equivalent of the OOT
Well, that's what I've been saying from the beginning - that I'm afraid they'll release some bastardized "close enough" version of the OOT and then when we once again complain, everyone will call us petty fanboys who are never satisfied, like with the GOUT.
