Halo 2

I know we have a large assortment of Aussies here on this board...are you all aware that you get to play Halo 2 about 17 hours before those of us in the US?

I'm a cheapskate who waits a year for the prices to come down before buying video games, but I'm excited for this one nonetheless. Is anyone actually going to grab it at midnight and try to get on the high score board before the real competition starts?

I seriously might break down and grab it at full price. It just looks ... yeah. You've all seen it.

FUN STARBOY TRIVIA BIT:
I never actually beat Halo 1. In college, I was halfway through the last level at graduation and my xbox went to Singapore with it's owner. Then I just got my own xbox 3 months ago and as yet have only played to the 8th level. In a way, it's just nice knowing that it's there for me...once I've played it all, I won't have anything new left.

Another way to look at it is if I don't finish Halo, I can't buy Halo 2, thereby saving money...

But even I don't believe that. I want Halo 2.

I'm working my way through Xenosaga (long RPG, if you don't know it) and I think I"m about 2 hours from the end. Halo is next on the menu. It's like a finish your dinner so you can have ice cream sort of thing. Only in a finish your dinner so you can fry the covenant with your plasma weapons sort of way.

If Halo 1 is a benchmark, it will be over a year.

Ak-shully, I don't think it has been announced for PC yet.

If you want to dig it up, you could allways check out Gamespot.

that sucks, the one thing i always hated about halo was that its Xbox controls were too complicated for the controllers

the controls are the same on the pc. oen joy stick is look around, the other one is movement. just like the mouse is look around and the awds keys are move around. its just so hard to do it all on a little controller.

Halo has by far the second best control of any Console FPS ever. The first, of course being Goldeneye/Perfect Dark.

The left stick moves foward and back, and strafes left and right, the right stick controls looking. Right trigger is fire gun, left trigger is throw grenade, Y changes weapon, X is jump, B reloads current weapon, and A is the action button. White is flashlight.

Anyone remember Turok's control scheme? Took some getting use to, but it was awesome on the N64. Turok 2 and Goldeneye were the best shooters for that console generation, and it's sad that something like Halo is the next "best" thing.

Seriously, the game Halo was and is overrated. I have hopes for the new one, yet my expectations are exceedingly low.

Maybe it's just a function of what you're used to, because I don't play many computer FPS games (the last might have been Dark Forces) and for me the Halo controls work like a dream. Other than the occasional grenade thrown by mistake, I feel the interface is flawless.

But then, I just admitted I don't follow the genre too much, so what do I know?

yeah its just the two joy sticks one for looking and the other for moving, it jsut feels unnatureal to me.

Halo was kind of designed around the limited motion allowed by joysticks...reports were that when it was released on PC it was too easy. The mouse allows for faster targeting and quicker turns, so people just blew through it (the difficulty being set for slower movement). Just a question; of those of you who weren't impressed by Halo, how many played it on the xbox?

...probably not many, and if you are only referring to the campaign when you say it is overrated then you are completely missing out on what people loved about it in the first place, slick multiplayer with a plethora of options.

My brother bought Halo on Xbox, and I've done multiplayer plus beaten single player/co-op, and it's still not as great a game as people want to believe it is.

What are you comparing it to, then? How can you say a game sucks when it was the very first shooter to coe out for XBox?

That would be like me saying in 1985 that Super Mario Bros is over rated--What would I be comparing it to?
