How is it? I want to make sure it doesn't hurt before I try it out myself.

I think we all know how badly you want it to hurt.

Would it be possible for someone to make this box for me or anyone that can't do such things? Please LMK.
It’s really sad when the “creative minds” behind something we hold dear are also guilty of its destruction.

This has been discussed in a number of threads here. I think the consensus is that this is just another Special Edition release, albeit using a better scan (scan of pre-2004 SE film). Likely yet another version of the Special Edition, but perhaps one that provides better source material for fan reconstructions of the real films.

Likewise. I would also really appreciate it if someone could help make this up for me. I'd gladly pay for the costs to cover it. I have no blu ray burner of my own and my local print services are very fussy over copyright shit.

I would also like to request help in acquiring this packaging and possible burned bluray discs. I am willing to pay whatever costs and I will even send you blank blurays to replace the ones you burn for me.
My step dad's birthday is coming up in a little over a month. We just had a lengthy discussion about the subject of film alteration. His all time favorite films are Star Wars and The Warriors. Both of these movies have been trashed by horrible special edition style altering. He doesn't even know about the fan edit and preservation community. Getting something like this would truly make his day. It would really blow his mind. I would love to share something like this with him. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

edit: Maybe posting the bunny in a moderated isn't the best idea. Cut size in half. Still, I wanted to get an excuse to do it since months ago ;)

I just wanted to thank everyone here, Harmy especially (obviously), for this project. I assembled a box set using Spheretronic's art and gave it to my dad, who was born in '67 and saw every OT episode in theaters on opening day. He was absolutely blown away by the project, he loved it. Here are a few images of the box set:

I know my folding isn't perfect -- this was my first ever papercraft project. If I did it again I'd be able to do it much more cleanly.
Also, I know the print job isn't perfect. Shockingly (or not?) Fedex Office's printers wouldn't accurately reproduce all the colors, at least nowhere near as well as Spheretronic's original post. The print job was only like $5 total though, so I can't complain too much.
Here are the steps I used to actually create the blu-rays:
1. Acquire a film in .mkv format
2. Use MKVExtract 2.2.2.9 to split this file into its video, audio, and subtitle tracks (~30 seconds)
3. Use tsMuxer 2.6.12 to repack these tracks into a Blu-Ray .iso (~30 seconds)
4. Burn the .iso to a blu-ray disc (~10 minutes)
The result of this raw process is that there are no fancy menus or anything, which I felt would sort of spoil the experience. You put the blu-ray in the player and it begins the film immediately. But there is also no compression or re-encoding involved, so zero loss in quality.
For those just above me who are asking about commissioning someone to assemble a box set for them -- I DO have the extra materials lying around to make three more box sets. But I am also extremely wary of having a new asshole ripped open by 20th Century Fox / Disney to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars for selling copyrighted merchandise. So, ah, PM me and we can work something out, maybe.
I've PMed Spheretronic asking for the source files for his covers and the box set -- with his permission, of course, I'd like to do a little personal tweaking of the text (kerning and brightness and so on).
Just to add: for those who want to make Blu-rays and want subtitles, download Project Threepio to get Blu-ray ready subtitles in graphical SUP format. If you try to use the SRT files, you can run into all sorts of trouble.
Well, TS Muxer automatically converts subtitles when you create a BD.
Well ChristmasLights, your folding came out better than mine.
I used my own printer, printed the pieces on cardstock, then glued them to a thin cardboard for added strength:
All that's left is to get the DVD-R DLs and burn my MKVs to the discs.....
godzilla98rules's Digital Paintings & More:
http://godzilla98artworks.weebly.com/
godzilla, I had that same problem, to a lesser extent, with the fold corners cracking and turning white. Since my print was already close enough to black in most places, I just used a sharpie to VERY carefully run along these edges and make them black again. You can't notice it in person.
In general, to avoid that cracking when folding thick paper just use a ruler and a dull edge (like the back of a scissor blade) to run along the reverse side of the crease over and over and over before you try folding it. Then fold against a straight edge.
Another trick I used: I added in these trapezoidal tabs shown here:
If you add those tabs, filled in with black, then fold them inward into the box, your open end will have nice rounded front edges for the blu ray cases to slip into smoothly.
Hi godzilla98rules,
it's really nice to see fans who are interested in building this box. Thanks! :)
I used a scrapper to prevent the cracked folds. But it's a little difficult. So the tips of ChristmasLights are very helpfully. :)
cheers,
spheretronic
At a craft store, you can get something called a "bone folder," like this:

No there's still reasons not to go that route. When tsMuxer converts SRT files, there's font/size/positioning/layout/etc information that tsmuxer does which can be wrong under some circumstances. Fonts are most likely decent if you stick with Latin/Cyrillic alphabets, but venture too far outside that and you could be in for trouble (CJK subs should not use the same font as each other, for example). tsmuxer's positioning choices may overlap subtitles on top of onscreen text (burnt-in alien subs), making them harder to read, or it may position them outside the frame, making them unusable in CIH systems. It's likely not the end of the world for most users to let tsmuxer handle it, but if you're going through the trouble of burning a BD, you may as well be certain it'll end up right.
Oh, yeah, you're absolutely right of course. I just wanted to point it out.
Hey there,
Are there any tutorials on how to burn it to a BD-R, in BDMV format?
I've tried using MKVextract, and tsMuxer. But, it seems to lose the track info (Like, 5.1 DTS-HD-MA (1977 70mm six track mix) - [english] etc.)
Yes, that info is lost, but the Blu-ray can't have the information anyway, unless you make a custom menu for it. The Blu-ray we're talking about making is an menuless auto-play Blu-ray, where the only way to select alternate audio/sub tracks is to use the AUDIO and SUBTITLES buttons on your remote. Something more complicated is, well, more complicated.
Ah, I see. So, there's no programs that can keep that info?
Or, are you saying that, even if there is, a Blu-ray player wouldn't be able to display it anyway?
