Why does the thread need any action, if there's nothing new to discuss concerning its topic?
I keep hoping for a Special Edition of this thread with all off topic posts removed.
The SE of this thread will be released on 15 Feb 2028 and will contain a few more off-topic posts as well as the following CGI added to all of them.
On 15 Feb 2039 Adywan will release his own SE of the SE of this thread which will remove some off-topic posts, clarify/reinterpret others, and change the CGI to the following.
Everyone: Please accept my sincere apology for this post. I love you all.
Hey! There is nothing wrong with the classic thread contents! They hold up pretty well compared to your digital crap!
JEDIT: More specifically.

There is always things to talk about and there is also good reason to talk about stuff. Forgive me but I used part of your stills for a comparison. And I have been looking at your work too :)
Notice all the horrible Red Blotches in the Helmet and how red the shadow of the cockpit is... Also notice how Bright Orange his goggles are. Massively over bright recomp too.
So putting the colors in a more natural state De-saturating yellow and Red in spots and altering the Brightness and contrast darkening red Hues and trying to look at this image as if I was really there this is what I think it should look like in terms of a more real approach. How can nobody spot all the Horrible red and purple blotches all over his helmet though?
Yes I know how that sounds Frink :)
We Have the foreground layer in the Gout as more or less correct but the background footage out the window looks awful. I probably excised a bit too much Red though.
So in the Special Edition we have a totally screwed up foreground image of Luke but a much better looking Background that was re-done.
This is the best blend I could do... Like it or not it warms me up that It can be fixed up and look like real footage but it's all about de-saturation of the recomposites and getting there brightness and contrast to match with the rest of the footage. Or at the very least I think it goes a way towards getting a much more natural color to these offenders where the shots were re-done.
EDIT:
I had to re-do it as there was many color hues in the Shadow purple Red and Blue that should not be there. And there is still some that should not be there around his chin.
Head Like a hole...masked in Helmet detail to properly fix the Black hole in Lukes Head probably impossible? but one can dream. There is a number of shots where the bridge of Lukes goggles is missing also in other cockpit shots. that one is a simple fix though. on this shot though the bridge is solid black rather than being missing.
Its amazing what a little toning down and desaturation can do here and there.

Absolutely and although Ady's color correction is Hands down or should I say Hands up Lovely and Amazing The film not only jumps about in terms of Brightness and contrast across the footage SE and Stock Footage transfer but also in terms of over Saturation of Red when it is not a SE shot.
So nothing bad to say about the process Ady has employed it's really working wonders only to say watch out for the Red saturation leaping up on Stock Transfer shots Lukes skin tones are the real give away on this.
There is also one last thing I noticed about this aspect and I'll be honest I am a little perplexed by it on this shot.
There is a glowing light in the top image on the gout. My immediate thought was Oh it's the sun. When I watched the shot it does appear to be the sun but as the camera pans across the light seems to vanish upwards whilst the camera does not seem to pan down. If you alter the brightness and contrast on the SE the glowing light re-appears so it's not been removed the brightness too high and contrast is too low in the SE here I guess.
But I am not sure if it's the Sun for real in the footage or an added effect of the sun by Sfx?
Anyway it's something that made me a little curious about what it actually is or is it just an error of some kind?
Dangit Ronster... that's the first time I noticed the black background in the lenses where it should be a distorted view out the window on the other side...
Cannot... unsee...
Someone please give me a "scientific" reason why it's supposed to look that way so I can breath easily again...
Hmm scientific you say...
The glasses have lenses with polarizing filters, which are turned perpendicular to each other, so when you look through both, all light is blocked. These lenses are needed for the 3D head-up display.
Ceci n’est pas une signature.

Ahhh, makes total sense... yes, the 3D display would require special lenses... thanks!
retconing at its finest
Ronster's day:
Wake up
Pour cereal
Put in some version of TESB
Watch 6 frames of TESB while eating cereal
Pore over significance of said frames trying to find something that gives away that we are watching a movie and not real life
Post on OT.com
If it's not too busy, have lunch and dinner somewhere in there
Toss and turn over that day's wretched discoveries as they destroy viewing experience permanently unless fixed by Adywan until falling asleep
;)

The red cockpit/ solid goggles problems were fixed a long time ago......
... in a galaxy not so far away a gifted and resourceful editor has some aces up his sleeves!
And that, is MAGIC ;-)

I was satisfied with the 2x polarazing lenses reasoning... but this works too, I guess..
;)
Amazing work as always Ady, thank you for your time, skill and dedication!
That's cool.
Any word on fixing the AT-AT/speeder distance problem or not?
Oh man.
That looks SO GOOD.
Thank you as always for your attention to detail, Ady!
Excellent Job!!!
Although I may be 2 steps behind, I had no way of knowing if it had been addressed but it's wonderful to see it and it's better than I ever imagined it could look.
I can only echo the sentiments of others and thank you once again for your Hard work and dedication. Although I have been trying my hand at color correction but not for editing purposes.... it is a skill I wished to learn for balancing video walls so I have an ulterior motive and Hoth being the color nightmare it is I felt may as well chuck myself in the deep end and learn something.
But I also feel I have learned something else and as I began the process of trying to color correct and learning a bit of how to do the process it slowly became apparent and dawned on me.....
It's only projects of this sort and particularly Star Wars Revisited that will bring us the film as It was intended to be... I don't Have much faith in an overhauled release from Disney or Lucusfilm. It won't even scratch the surface of the depth that this project offers up or for that matter Luke's Goggles. It's self explanatory, simple, Beautiful and all encompassing vision of this project is more than any of us could wish for, and i am forever grateful and in your debt.
Thank you for your take on the Emperor hologram scene. It makes the scene much more enjoyable.
But... Now Luke can't see his 3D display properly

I tweaked that shot ages ago by making the existing AT-AT larger.

That's great news. It must've been tweaked sometime after the Dec 20th clip?

Almost none of the clips i have shown to date contain 100% of the final footage. Usually they are earlier test renders (remember the Hoth battle clips that contained no AT-ST's , even though they were already in there at that point). I don't want to spoil it by showing everything ahead of the release ;)
EDIT: Just checked the date the shot was rendered and it was done early September 2014

Nice!
I thought I'd show a couple of adywan's recent updates from his facebook page, for anyone that missed them -
Remember how Vader passed a black-clad Imperial officer as he exited down the steps from the bridge during his last appearance in the movie? - except the officer *wasn't* there in the previous shot?
Well, he's been added in now for better continuity, as seen on the right-hand side below -
And then the following info. was posted last week on 31st March -
"There haven't been many updates lately because i have been working flat out on ESB:R. I'm still working on the Han in Carbonite. It shouldn't be too much longer now and i will have that complete and ready for filming and then it's onto the hangar miniatures. Rotoscoping certain elements really slows me down (try rotoscoping the X-wing to replace the original matte in the shot where yoda uses the force to lift it out the water, when the outline of the ship is not even visible due to the dark background and you'll see what obstacles i'm up against. Working 3 days solid and still only half the ship rotoscoped :( ) , but thankfully soon i will have finished the last shot that requires any rotoscoping. That will be a day to celebrate, i can tell you ;)
Even though i was aiming for May, that is not a possibility, but it won't be too much longer after that."
(Note: adywan then went on to say that he'd decided to *scrap* all his plans for creating the new Wampa suit and sculpting the mask, making the inner skull and cabling for the mouth to open and close, all the hair punching and building a half cave set to film the shot where it lunges at Luke...because the amount of work required to do it properly would probably delay the edit until 2016! So he was unfortunately just going to have to use the existing Wampa shots, to make sure the edit got released before too long this year, so he could get on with the rest of the movies...
...but happily, it turned out that we dodged an April Fools here, and that it's all systems go with the new Wampa after all) :)
