I think if they wanted to make an anthropomorphic bunny Jedi, they could just find another Lepi to do the job. They wouldn't need to use Jaxxon, and really, there's no reason why they would want to.

Should OT Boba's real name be Jaster Mereel?

Sure, I'd be cool with that.

I'd also be fine with him being just Boba Fett, but that's been ruined by the PT. It would have been great had Boba just been adopted by Jango, or a Fett clan member or something, but here we are.

Personally, I originally didn't like the Jaster Mereel thing at all. I always wanted Boba Fett to always have been Boba Fett, and I still feel that way, honestly, but now the name has been ruined by Lucas, so I'd be fully behind a Jaster Mereel coming along and popping Lucas' lame-ass Boba (no offense, Daniel Logan) and replacing him, maybe because Jaster is a Mandalorian and Boba is a disgrace to their name. At this point, I'm more attached to Boba being Mandalorian than I am to him being Boba.

The reason I'm attached the the Mandalorian part is because I want to see them undo at least some of the bullshit Karen Traviss cooked up in her horrible fanfictions. I love them, but I love them because they're badass, ruthless mercenaries that don't need the Force to go toe-to-toe with Jedi, not always goodie-two-shoes infallible Mary Sues who love the Jedi and learn the Force and act all heroic and Boba is crying has daddy issues and children and loves Han and his kids.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

Chris Weitz Joins Gareth Edwards’ ‘Star Wars’ Standalone Pic as Writer

Chris Weitz has come on board to pen Gareth Edwards’ “Star Wars” standalone movie for Disney and Lucasfilm.

He replaces Gary Whitta, who wrote the first draft of the script. Weitz’s involvement shouldn’t delay the start of production for the film, which is set for release on Dec. 16, 2016. Weitz was nominated for an Oscar for his work on the “About a Boy” adapted screenplay.

The film will be some sort of origin tale for a classic “Star Wars” character, with Boba Fett and Han Solo rumored to be possible routes, but more details of the story are unknown.

Edwards has been meeting with women, including Rooney Mara and Felicity Jones, for one of the female roles.

What is up with Gary Whitta, his Akira script was rejected too.

^There's a joke somewhere in there, but for the life on me, I can't figure out what it is.

Could be about anything.

They won't even say who the characters are.  Or if its a film based on one of the new characters from The Force Awakens.

This is probably about rogue squadron, right? Of course the title could be more simple than it sounds - i.e. Han Solo is a "rogue one" - but I'd imagine that's not the case.

Are we going to see Felicity Jones as an X-Wing fighter? Will this be during the OT? Still a lot of questions. Some say she might be playing Leia, but I doubt that.

Jones's casting does make me happy. She's as talented as she is gorgeous, and the more female leads in this franchise, the better.

The curious thing about this is that it's released a mere five months before Episode VIII. I do wonder if all these Star Wars movies will confuse viewers and/or oversaturate the market. There's no good analogy for this, Marvel comes closest but their films are so different that it doesn't matter. Time will tell how this will shake out I suppose. I'm looking forward to it.

hmm, could this have anything at all to do with Denis Lawson turning down a part in TFA because it was only a cameo appearance?

If I had to guess, I would say that depicting the battle referenced in the opening crawl of Star Wars '77 is this movie's entire raison d'être. It could function as a direct prequel to the OT.

They've announced now that it's a history of Rogue Squadron.

I wonder when it will take place. Directly before or after the original film would be cool.

I'm so glad it's not an Adventure In the Dayz of Young Han Solo film. Fingers crossed that it's not the plan for any other spinoffs, either.

Boba Fett is overrated, but I'd much prefer a movie about him than ruining Han. I'd watch a Lemmiwinks-esque escape from the Sarlacc stomach with his new friend Catattafish.

But Rogue Squadron wasn't a thing before ANH, right?

And anything set around the OT following Rogue Squadron would essentially be the adventures of young Luke Skywalker.

Hollywood has been lacking a good aerial dogfight movie.  There is potential here for Rogue One to capitalize on a vacuum and go down as one of the best Star Wars films ever made.  Assuming execution is done well, of course.

Unfortunately, the description of the film given at a shareholders' meeting (see link above) doesn't so much suggest a space-dogfight film as much as a ripped-from-the-consoles space-marine shooter-type movie.

If the writers meant the film's title to evoke Rogue Squadron, it appears they really didn't know what "Rogue Squadron" used to mean in the old EU (or, as we must now call it, the Legends continuity!!)

Shame, too. AFAIK, there haven't really been any good dogfight movies--in air or in space--in decades.

True. But that was just based on a few concept art images. I imagine they would gear what they show to shareholders to be the more modern and, as they say, video game like aspects rather than the retro qualities that may hopefully be present as well. The people reporting from the meeting also said that the people/soldiers in the images had no qualities that really made them discernible from one another. These scenes might not represent the bulk of the movie.

I don't have too much faith in the standalones being good. They'll probably get less of the care and concern that folks like us are interested in, compared to the ST. But I'll wait until we get a bit more news about completely giving up on them.

If done right and in the spirit of the original trilogies, it could be great.

There was such a spirit of camaraderie among Rebel pilots from the original films.  It would be nice to explore that further.

To be honest, I didn't find Desplat's score for the last two Harry Potter films very engaging. I much preferred the work of Nicholas Hooper on the Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince films.

I'll have to listen to Desplat's score again to see if it's really as "meh" as I remember, or if associated Harry Potter fatigue simply made me tune it out.

I didn't seem like Desplat was given much creative freedom with the Potter scores, which is unfortunate.  There are a few moments that are reminiscent of Williams' style.
