Thanks for all the info, RU.08. Much appreciated.

(So what does the "TB" in "TB version" stand for if not "TeamBlu"?...)

Finally got around to watching the '77 Blu-ray all the way through. As everyone has said, it's really impressive and almost impossible seeming that this came from the GOUT. Watched it on a 720p TV via PS4 and it looked better than many DVDs do. Colors looked really great. I know people will always quibble about 'proper color'. I don't know how anything looked in '77. But as someone who grew up with VHS, LD, and broadcasts in the 80's and 90's, this looks fantastic.

Really the best 'true' presentation of Star Wars '77 as opposed to the reconstructed options. Next on the list is the '97 disc.

Hoping to add the theatrical and '97 ESB/RoTJ discs to the collection some day. Thanks for this.

Hey guys, I'm new here, so sorry if the question seems stupid, but where can we get "Project Blu" HD version of the Trilogy, the one Harmy partially used in his project?

Thanks.

Usenet, public torrent sites, private torrent sites like myspleen, etc. Apparently, the project blu release has only been...released...for ANH. If you still want a GOUT based source, Dark Jedi's v3 dvd's are available for ESB and ROTJ, though I would recommend the -1 Grindhouse for the former and the X0 JSC ROTJ rip for the ladder, on the grounds that it lacks DVNR.

Nobody sang The Bunny Song in years…

Hoping the Blu releases for ESB and RotJ are still planned. I know the team has moved on to many other projects. Somewhat hoping we'll be lucky and see a May 4th release for one of them at least. :)

They may wisely be waiting to see what Disney does.  Force Awakens is in 9 months, it wouldn't be unreasonable to hear about a new DVD release in 6 months.

Still, I can't argue with the variety of preserved audio tracks here that Disney will never do.

Thanks Danfun128, but I haven't been able to find Project Blu of ANH on public sites.

Anyway, what's the difference between SW Trilogy V3 versions from this topic and GOUT? More audio tracks available? Is video quality the same or has it been fixed/upscaled/upgraded?

I can't really answer as far as what they did, technically. I think there might be a few details scattered throughout the thread. But it's upscaled and the video quality is certainly improved with the bluray release as opposed to V3. V3 looks like a nicely cleaned up anamorphic version derived from GOUT. An improved GOUT. Perhaps it looks like what they *should* have released in 2006 if they were determined to use the LD masters.

The blu release has some nifty filters applied that really sharpens up the image. For many shots it's almost impossible to believe that it's GOUT sourced. While the V3 colors, from what I remember, looked just like the GOUT, the Blu is slightly adjusted (at least in brightness/contrast).

The only downside to the Blu release is the digital graininess present at times, which is to be expected given the source. The first time I viewed the release, on a 1080p laptop, I thought this was quite noticeable. I've since watched it on a 720p CCFL television, and it wasn't as noticeable. It looked good enough to probably fool someone who didn't know better as an official 480p anamorphic release. Certainly the best version of Star Wars derived solely from a home video OOT source.

Yes, the latest version of the Star Wars restoration is the best, details and colors are greatly refined and more accurate. It's hardly to be believed considering the source, it's that good. From a technical standpoint, it looks sort of like a mid-level quality commercial DVD release that's being upscaled by your hdtv, and if you didn't know better, that's what you would think it was; just to give you some idea for a quick example. Which is amazing when you think about what they had to work with, it's *highly* watchable and the sound is just excellent on the restored surround option, thanks to hairy_hen's superb work on the 70mm soundtrack reconstruction. Prepare to be impressed if you've never heard it. :)

I'm certainly looking forward to the new version of The Empire Strikes Back when it's ready. And yeah, it would be great if there were restored unaltered trilogy DVD and Blu-ray sets from Lucasfilm in time for Christmas, but Disney hasn't been involved that long and I wonder if Lucasfilm would have had time for a proper full restoration by now, considering the amount of work required to do it right. But I guess it's worth waiting a few months to find out, and surely they would have to announce any such sets by October at the latest, and if they don't, well, then fans will have the restored full trilogy Blu-ray set from dark_jedi and You_Too at some point. :)

The Star Wars trilogy. There can be only one.

Thanks guys. I was actually asking about the standard-definition (older) V3 releases vs. GOUT, but nevertheless. I have those standard definition releases of the Trilogy, so I was wondering if they were better than the GOUT DVDs and, if so, in what aspect?

Ah, right.

It too had been run through avisynth scripts to stabilize it and improve the aliasing problems. The color may have been adjusted, but the profile looks more like GOUT. They're 16:9. Obviously no detail gained there, as they're from non-anamorphic sources, but it displays properly without doing things like zooming/cropping on your playback software or TV.

I also recall there being dirt/glue cleanup, but I'm not 100% sure. Someone who knows what they're talking about can probably come by and give you a better answer than mine.

There is none yet, but U2 and I should start ESB soonish, we have some Team members that are going to be very busy the next couple months.

 Awesome. Looking forward to it.

I don't see Disney doing the 97 SE unless they make it a "bonus" disc like the GOUT was so this is probably going to be the only way it makes it out there.

I'm truly excited.

Finally joined. Haven't been to these parts for a while but I decided to once again google for the 1997 special editions and it seems that they're being worked on over here. I must say that I'm excited because those are the versions I grew up with (I also enjoy the theatrical versions, the 2004 special editions and the Blu-ray versions I don't really care about).
