Team Negative1 - The Empire Strikes Back 1980 - 35mm Theatrical Version (Released) — Page 36

I just watched the film as well. Even though it still is pretty reddish, this will be the only version I'll watch from now on (aside from curiousities like 16mm version). There was great detail in the picture, much more than I had thought, and the soundtrack sounded great, too. It kind of felt like I saw the film for the first time (but not exactly because I remember it by heart). Only annoying thing was that because this release was split into six (?) files there was a two second blackout every time the played file changed, not sure if it was just because of my SmartTV's way to play them or could I have done something to avoid it, probably not.

Anyways, huge thanks and I can't wait for other releases. You sure raised my hope for watching these films again like they should be.

Thanks for the compliments from everyone. We are glad you are enjoying it.

We haven't tried, but it should be possible to merge the m2ts files together into one, and remake the bluray that way, so that there are no gaps. You could test it on a computer first before burning to see if it works.

You can with Tsmuxer.  Just open the correct .mpls file.

For an MKV 'MakeMKV' will merge them all into one MKV.  MKVmerge/MKVtoolnix will do this too.

The RAW Eastman print version is still being worked on and is getting closer to completion. It will be a 1080p version. About 8+ Gigs in size.

The low bitrate 720p version is done. Its currently 3 Gigs.

3 gigs for 720p footage? Isn't that a bit small?

I'm sure this was mentioned earlier but I want it explained again anyway...

These are old internal versions.  Probably the same ones that gave us the low-resolution stills we used to get.

I asked the same question on the last page. :P

A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em

Author
Time

Yes, these are internal preview versions that were just used for testing and checking out colors. They are being archived as historical references, and are basically to show the progression through the prints we have acquired.

It's interesting to see how much details in in the RAW pink Eastman version even without color correction. That way you can experiment however you want on it without being influenced by our choices.

I think the file split being referred to was in the Bluray ISO, so making it an MKV does not impact that.

They were individual M2TS files, which were split.

Alright, I'm going to try to see how far off I am from understanding your prints.

Eastman print 1 - very red, source of upcoming 'internal' release and occasional patching

Eastman print 2 - less faded, reels 1-4 used for 2013 ex-DCP

Eastman/Fuji - reels 1-4 Eastman, 5-6 Fuji. So not a complete Fuji here? Used for the Grindhouse release. Reels 5-6 also used for the 2013 ex-DCP release.

Fuji print 2 - Complete Fuji with nice color and minimal fade. Source for the eventual final release.

Anywhere near correct?

And I just want to add that the bluray plays fine for me as a disc, and does not skip at all when switching from one m2ts to the next.

Your list is very accurate. However, Reels 5-6, were not Fuji, but Eastman from the first print used in the DCP and Grindhouse versions.

Not sure which reels were Eastman/Fuji in the mixed print.

Reel 3 was fairly damaged from the first print, and replaced with another incomplete Eastman version.

Some of the first print has disintegrated due to aging, however Reels 1 and 3 have survived.

Oh yeah, forgot to to add something I wondered. Even though the soundtrack itself sounds pretty good, the volume was very low. I had to up my volume 18 dB from my normal TV watching level which added a lot of hiss.

The final stages of the ESB Deconstructed Workprint are being finalized along with the preview. More details will be released as we get nearer to the release.

The Workprint is surprisingly watchable.

We are almost ready for a release shortly. Here are some details:

==========================================

March 2015,

Here is an archive of original scan of the first print we had.

So, what would you say looks better, the grindhouse or the deconstructed?

Nobody sang The Bunny Song in years…

Author
Time

Each release has served a different purpose.

The Grindhouse is the most advanced version using the best reels and parts and extensive color cleanup.

The DCP was the previous version used for projection.

This RAW version is for archival purposes and experimentation for those that want to play around with fixing the various issues. Also included is a different color corrected version with more saturated colors and some minor cleanup done on it.

Why 1920x868 and 1280x556? They're not Blu-ray compatible and would have to be converted and recompressed for that. Just make them proper 1080p and 720p files.

These are not meant to be watched as is. They are mostly for experimentation, and modifying on a computer. Its simple to put them in letterboxed formats, as some people will do that.

Viewing them on a Ultra Widescreen or 21:9 monitor allows for easier fullscreen with nearly the correct theatrical aspect ratio.

We are hoping to get this up on Myspleen shortly. There may have been a preview on usenet, but it wasn't all the files.

The full archive will be about 11.1 Gigs total.

I downloaded it and i only have 1 file corrupt, "ESB Deconstructed (REPACK).part007.rar" and enough pars to fix it, but repairing fails every time using both quickpar and multipar. What are you guys using to create the Par2 files?
