I didn't even like the much praised Thrawn trilogy, it seems to get its reputation from simply being the first of the new EU. It's not awful but simply not very good and has too many flaws for me to go into right now.

I've not read the books in which it occurred but all the nastiness inflicted on the Solo children is unforgivable and undermines Luke's victory in the original trilogy and goes against the spirit of the first films. That's not to say that all has to be rosy in the universe but you would think that the conflict would take on another form.
