My computer didn't come with any OS, and I didn't pay anything to put XP on it.

How do you use your computer without an OS?

Vista came preinstalled on my laptop(I wish someone would sell kits so I could build my own custom laptops)so I was stuck with it until I bought a copy of XP.

XP? XP is dead. It died less than a year ago. Unless you are a risk taker and installing the unofficial sp4 patch based off Windows POS Ready 2009, or are a retrogamer playing games that wont run on Vista or newer, or are willing to replace it with Linux, there is no good reason to keep XP on your computer. Vista wasn't too bad after SP1, and I think Microsoft still gives it security updates, so there is no good reason to downgrade to XP. If anything, you should have upgraded to 7 or newer.

Oh, and necrobump -.-

I use XP on my old Pentium 4 computer....and it's awesome.

Vista blows, and is dead to me.

My current i7 computer uses Windows 7, and works great.

.

Custom building laptops is more trouble (and expensive) than it's worth.

But honestly, the laptop I have is almost 10 years old (and uses XP), so what the hell do I know about laptops ;)

Vista is terrible. However, I will keep Windows 7 on my computer as long as possible. I can't stand Windows 8, or any variation of it. Here's to hoping Windows 10 goes back to the tried and true formula of Windows 95.

Can anyone tell me what exactly is wrong with Vista? I use Vista myself, and I have my issues with it, but I don't know what exactly distinguishes it from earlier/later versions of Windows problem-wise.

Well for one thing it crashes all the time(something that doesn't happen with XP or 7),it seemed to have real problems with certain video cards, it had a huge amount of trouble running older programs and games, it was give me error messages all the time and some times they would up just when i turned on the computer and my laptop came with Vista preinstaled, It had real trouble writing anything to a disc in a way that would work, then many times it would just refuse to read anything I plugged into the USB ports.  All of these problems vanished once I replaced Vista with Xp and not a one of them has turned up on Windows 7. Vista was a nightmare I never want to return to.

I'm using Windows 8.1 and all fine here, windows 7 is also rock solid. Windows Vista is actually Windows ME 2.0 :p

Yeah that is what my dad called it, before he got out his old copy of XP and installed it on his computer.  You would think Microsoft would have learned their lesson after ME but I guess not.

I still use XP...shoot me. I simply don't have the computing power at the moment to upgrade. I'll probably switch to 7 or 8 when I build a better PC, but money is tight right now. I could build a decent PC, but I want to spend enough that I won't have to upgrade for a while.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Yeah as long as you have good third party anti virus and firewall software there is no reason that you have to upgrade to 7.

I hear Microsoft is really upset that more people aren't ditching XP, hey you know what Microsoft in this day and age there is no reason to upgrade your OS every 3 years because pretty much everything that comes with a new OS can now be downloaded in the form of an update or third party software.  Unless there is a huge leap in computer power a new OS isn't needed any more, adjust your business model to reflect this.

For f**ks sake DrCrow! Will you stop cluttering up off-topic with these old threads. Is there really a need to reopen an 8 year old thread about Windows bloody Vista.

I don't particularly mind necroposting. Sometimes old, largely forgotten threads can be the best ones.

I've no problem with the "Sometimes" bit.

Yeah, Vista was the first Windows OS that would not work with my old Wing Commander and Command and Conquer games and those were some of my favorites as a kid.  I was so relieved when Windows 7 worked with them right out of the box.

I upgrade a as little as possible, the only reason I ended up with seven(which I am happy with by the way)is because it came preinstalled on my computer and since it worked fine I didn't see any reason to replace it with my old copy of XP.

I am having a polite conversation with people about Microsoft OSes in general at this point, you don't like it you don't have to read it.

I however am finding this conversation interesting, just because you don't doesn't mean that no one does.

If I had started a whole new thread about Vista and Microsoft's failed OSes then someone would have complained that I didn't do a search for existing threads.

I am sorry I didn't think about running every aspect of my life for your personal entertainment, you can report me to the mods if you want.

If you can't stand people talking about things that are more then two days old because they are not the hip and trendy at the moment maybe you should just start avoiding people all together, i think you will be a lot happier.

I am now going to return this thread to topic.

I have heard rumors that Microsoft is going to cut off support for seven when ten comes out.  I hope this isn't true since i don't have the money to upgrade and I really don't want to have to work the bugs out of a new OS when the old one is working just fine for me.

It seems they are also offering Windows 10 free of charge to Windows 7 & Windows 8 users so perhaps this might not be so bad if you have a purchased copy of 7.

I am now going to only post in threads that are hip and trendy. So If you see one of my posts in a thread, that means it's on trend.

Congratulations this thread is now the bomb.
