I agree that professional sports is a bore, that's for sure.  If you like football and really want to get that excitement it used to bring to you back, I recommend watching college sports.  College basketball and football are, to me, much more exciting than the pro variants.  Without any money on the table nobody is playing just because, everybody is playing out of love for the game, so all the players try harder and emotions run higher.  NBA basketball is a snooze fest compared to college.  For me anyway.

I hate to tell you, college sports, namely Division 1A Football and Division 1 Basketball are all about money as well.   The colleges make money the bowl games make money, the conferences  make money, the people that run tournaments make money, the coaches make make money, the people that own stadiums make money,  the sponsers make money, one the of the reasons the kids are playing is to try to get into the NFL/NBA to make money.   There is also a growing argument that the college athletes should get paid.   If you really want your sports free of money, you need to go watch highschool sports.   Sad, but that is the way it is.

No shit, but the PLAYERS don't make money, therefor for the ones actually PLAYING the game, it's all (or mostly) about the sport.

And actually I played basketball in high school, and it was fun. :D  I was even pretty good.

The way things are going College football and basketball players will be getting paid.  I may take 10 years or more, but I think its coming.

Also, even if the athletes aren't getting paid now, their performance at stats in college have a direct impact on the very competitive financial offers they are trying to land.  When the coaches are making millions (while PhD professors are making a tiny fraction of that), you know there is a ton of money involved and at stake.

The players already make money through scholarships.

Do they compensated if they get a career killing injury?

Apparently, the Philadelphia Eagles have stepped in it.  They screwed up royally with their Eagles calendar.  Apparently on the calendar features a player of the month for each month.  Riley Cooper, who in 2013 got into trouble for using the n-word to refer to security guards(who were African American),  is one of the players of the month.  Guess which month they picked to feature Riley Cooper as player of the month?  Thats right, February.  Black History Month.   As you can guess, some people are offended by this.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12374692/washington-redskins-lawyers-tell-judge-canceling-trademark-violates-free-speech-rights

This is why I think we need a new constitution that reflects reality and not wishful thinking.  The fact is that arguing on the grounds of free speech is stupid because in reality speech that offends people is always going to be banned.  The government has never respected free speech if it is not in the best interest of the community, the government bans books from libraries all the time.  The FCC censors every second on TV and radio and the MPAA censors all movies.  The fact is there is not and never has been free speech in this country.  People get thrown in jail for twitter posts if they are deemed harmful. Free speech is in fact a myth and if it wasn't there would be chaos and bloodshed on the streets.  The government has always had the right to censor everything we say and the country is better off for it.  I don't see why racism should be allowed in the name of such a destructive concept as free speech.

There is no constitutional right to file a trade mark so how can the government be violating anyone;s right.  Also isn't a violation of the rights of the government to force them to honor a trademark that is nothing but hate speech that will lead to bloodshed?  isn't it the government's job to do whatever it takes to protect the community?  Isn't that why we have law enforcement and patriot acts to begin with.  If this lawsuit makes it through the government will have no way to enforce law and order and we will see a complete break down and the country will fall apart.

THE EAGLES HAVE FIRED CHIP KELLY!!!

about time. His hurry up offense didn’t work. All it did was get the offense off the field faster which resulted in the defense being on the field long and getting exhausted by the end of games/seasons. He couldn’t get the difference between how you treat NFL players(which are grown men), and how you treat College players(which are college kids). He kept treating the Eagles players like how he had treated college players and it didn’t work. Some players could stand it. He made moves last off season that didn’t work. It became obvious that he had lost the team. His last game game, a must win against Washington, was ugly. Even though the Eagles were 6-8, they still could have won the division if they had beaten both Washington and the Giants, but they blew it against Washington and now have a losing season. But it still shocks me. Even though I thought he should be fired, it seemed like Jeff Lurie(the owner of the Eagles) was going to give him more season. I certainly didn’t expect to see it happen with one game still left to be played. I wonder if Lurie told Kelly that he wanted to keep him as head coach, but not GM, and Kelly didn’t like that and it resulted in the parting of the ways. I am sure WIP, the local sports talk radio station will be talking about this for days and days. I wonder who the next coach will be . . .

well, it looks like the Eagles moved up from the 8th overall pick in the draft to the 2nd overall pick. But they gave up a lot to get there.

  1. the 8th overall pick
  2. 3rd round pick (77th over all)
  3. 4th round pick (100th over all)
  4. 2017 1st round pick
  5. 2018 2nd round pick

whoever they get that pick had better be worth it.

Well, its official: The Eagles of drafted Carson Wentz. I hope he is worth it. We shall see . . .

The Superbowl is today and this thread is as dead as my enthusiasm for football.

Yeah.

I’m usually a Pats fan but honestly don’t mind seeing them losing so badly.

As a Patriot hater (both because I’m tired of them being in this thing almost every year, and because the owner, coach, and QB are all friends of Trump), I’m really enjoying the beatdown they’re receiving so far. Just hope it lasts.

I’ve been glad to not be too into sports because otherwise being a fan of the most hated team in the league would be frustrating.

But lately, with the Trump connection, I can’t help but sympathize with the haters. It’s annoying too because not a single state in New England voted for him.

I must say though I love a highly improbable comeback so I am starting to enjoy this game (also because it’s just been boring up till now).

I meant the first half. Second half (fourth quarter and OT especially) was probably some of the craziest shit I’ve ever seen.

Goddammit Pats. I was so ready to hate you winning this game. But then you had to go and make it a crazy comeback and now I can’t help but smile.

Brady, Bellicheck and Kraft are in the tank for Trump which puts a real sour taste in my mouth (plus the cheating stuff). And I don’t follow football too closely anyway.

Well I hate Pats. I’ve hated them since 2004. You know I hate Trump. But this was one hell of a game.
