Sorry about the freak out, I ran out of my meds that I take for panic attacks over the weekend and I spent pretty much all day Sunday having one giant panic attack.  I am my family are doing better today.

That's good to hear.   Hopefully things will continue to improve for you.

Okay now we are training kids to not be able to cope with the real world.  if we are so weak that we live in fear of threats from weapons that don't exist then doesn't survival of the fittest demand that we die off so a better stronger race can take our place?

What is next, if the corn harvest doesn't come in are we going to hang some ugly old lady because she must have been a witch and cursed the crops?

All I can say is I am glad these people didn't hear some of the things my friends and I said when we were in fourth grade and fighting, my guess is if they did we would have all been sent to gitmo as terrorists.

Texas. It figures. Even Sauron wouldn't want to rule them all. ;)

And yeah, we all probably did and said things innocently when we were young that would cause school administrators to soil themselves today. My best friend in high school had "making explosives" listed as a hobby in a yearbook, (it was a joke) and we had a prop time bomb kicking around the drama classroom for a while. (It was ludicrously fake looking though.) I suddenly miss the 80's...

Yeah I am guessing the fact that my friends and I used to "vaporize" each other with Phasers when we played Star Trek when I was a kid would get us tossed in jail these days.

Now that we are all living in fear of fictional and magic weapons.

Countries that have real problems and real civil wars going on that result in children dying from real attacks by real weapons must be laughing at us right now.  Either that or they wish they had it as "bad" as we do.

I'm glad that what's quoted above had just enough assholery pumped into it to make me go back and give it a re-read. Thanks!

No problem!  That's what friends are for, aye?  :P

I'm not sure what motivate(d|s) you to be a dick to me.

I may have misread your first post on this matter, but I still tried to provide some good advice based on my own experience.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Relax, the last thing I said "that's what friends are for" was genuine.  There is no malice, only lighthearted dickery of the friendly sort.

Dear landlord,

A house that has a leaky roof, questionable wiring, no (working) central heating system, and doors that are all broken isn't worth $1000 a month.

Yours truly,

More seriously, though, that sucks. Hope your landlord will at least look at the leaky roof.

I bought my first Blu-ray player today. Unfortunately, the coaxial cable it's made for isn't compatible with my old CRT TV, so now I'll have to go back out into town again tomorrow just to buy an adapter.

Why the manufacturers can't just build these players to be backwards compatible with older TVs in the first place I'll never know.

Maybe because there's no point to using a Blu-ray player with a SD TV.

Let's just say that while I'm preparing myself for the time DVD becomes obsolete, I'm still not interested in ditching my current TV until it breaks down or otherwise becomes completely unwatchable.

Older Blu Ray players had analog video outputs, but the MPAA still thinks movies are pirated the old fashioned way, so even component outputs have been phased out.

I wonder how many more years digital converter boxes will still be available for analog tv's?

I do worry that by the time I'm in the market for a new flatscreen, there won't be any analog inputs.

About a year ago I purchased a fantastic 65 inch flatscreen Mitsubishi used for 140 bucks.  It's wonderful and still working perfectly.  I got it for so cheap because it isn't a flat panel so nobody wanted it.  It looks as good as any of the new displays I see.  And it's true that buying it used provided me with no warranty and it breaks I just have to buy a new one, but for 140 USD it'd have to break about 10 times before I paid as much as a new one, and it's over a year with no problems already.

Isn't the 'coaxial' output actually a digital audio connection?

Yes, it is. I just found that out not long after I posted my original post. Which means I'll also have to buy an HDMI cable.

Check Amazon Marketplace.  I have been with Bluray since late 2006 and the in store mark up on HDMI cables is still insane.  I buy all of mine on marketplace and they are just as good as the ones in the store and I have never paid more then $4 for an HDMI cable.

Quick question if your TV is so old does it even have an HDMI input?

Oh and I have to say as someone who lives in a small house I like flat screens for the simple reason that they take up less space.  I mean before we had to have a big piece of furniture in our living room to hold our big screen TV, when we got a flatscreen we also got back two whole feet of living space in the living room.  Even my mom who doesn't care what the picture looks like on most things loves that.

Oh and I just checked and this whole "no SD video outputs" thing must be fairly new because both my Philips and Magnavox players, purchased in the past two years, have SD video and sound outputs on them.

I think my Philips Bluray player is my favorite I have ever owned since it was cheap and I can hook a USB drive up to it and it will play any video file I throw at it, except MKV for some reason.  Oh and it will even play the files off of a standard data disc burned with windows.  So not only is it the cheapest Bluray player I have ever owned but it has the most features.  If only it were multi region and it played MKVs, it would be perfect.
