Is there anything on the disc that hasn't already been posted to youtube?
He claims that this is the entire thing:

While I believe it is all there, I think Adywan is hoping to get higher quality captures. I know very little about video capture, and am especially naive when it comes to LD, but it sounds like the efforts for this particular disc, while admirable, still leave something to be desired. I don't think Ady would use it in his ROTJ:R edit unless it were of sufficient quality.

WAS hoping. This unexpected sale will likely mean that the transfer won't happen.
Does this guy have a good excuse for sitting on it for so long without doing the back-and-forth to get a proper transfer done?
A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.
I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

no, no excuses were given to us. I tried to arrange things but nothing ever came about from it. All we have is the files he gave us from the recording he did on the settop DVD recorder, with all the dropout problems with the picture. Completely unusable .

poita and I might be able to bring it to a usable state. Want to bring this to PM?

yeh, PM me
I've never seen LD video with issues like that. It's more like tape dropouts. Would Lucasfilm just slap a videotape of the footage onto a disc, warts and all? Especially a trade show demo disc?
And are we going to try and pool resources on this?

No, all those problems were down to the way it was originally copied; using a plain old dvd recorder. There were problems with the disc itself which caused dropouts which the recorder couldn't seem to handle and cause those problems. Which is why i was pushing to get a proper capture of it done.
Must have been a really cheapo DVD recorder, as I've not had those kind of issues.

The disc itself could have some dropouts, but using an high quality laserdisc player, like X0 or X9, AND a pc with a good capture card, should improve the quality a lot!

I've collected LD's since 1986, and have never seen dropouts that look like that. And I've had defective discs with everything from mild speckling, to rot so bad the player starts clacking loudly trying to compensate before the video image is totally lost, and it just stops playback.
If I didn't know better, I would think the disc was transferred to tape before it was recorded to DVD.

That's certainly a possibility if it was done quickly- just hooking up the LD player to a VCR, then using a DVD recorder/VHS combo player to put it on DVD.
This ebay item is no longer available. I just checked on it and it says the seller stopped the auction because the item is no longer available. Hopefully one of our preservers here got this item!

As far as I know....there MAY have been some sort of last minute attempt to get this transferred before final sale, but there was apparently a buyer, and it was a local (to the seller) collector, not someone from here. The buyer was apparently open to allowing this item to be transferred before it was sold into his possession....but whether this happens or not.......
This is what we've been told.
Kind of unfair to yank it with only a couple days left. I think it was up to $1200 last night?

I just hope we get some kind of "official" information about what happened and it's status; and, hopefully, it's proper transfer and preservation. Would be a shame if it was lost again.

If someone else has the laserdisc now, and that person is a collector who doesn't like giving stuff away to groups like ours, s/he might make a HQ transfer, make a small clip of fixed footage based off the worst parts of what *we* have, encode that clip in sub Sega cd fmv quality, post the LQ clip and only the LQ clip online, and mock us for not being as secretive as his/her kind are.
edit: Oh, and for good measure, s/he would never give up the laserdisc, ever. At least, not until a T Rex becomes US President.
edit 2: and I do mean a literal T Rex, as in the long extinct dinosaur.

Let's not speculate too much until we have some concrete info to go on?

I just wanted to give a worst case scenario. :P
