Do you happen to have the bit perfect LD rip of this? if not which LD is the right one? also isn't the new SHOUT BD the best of the releases? would love to revisit this and finish what I started a long time ago, but would need to get the LD audio and figure out which BD as the best PQ.

The japanese BD has a higher video bitrate than the new US BD. But I don't know what Master was used.

Edit: Okay, I can answer this, now.

The japanese BD looks more like the anchor bay. Same AR, same color tones. Just a higher bitrate

What's wrong with the latest Shout Factory release?

The 2.0 Audio from the austrian XT (PAL) DVD seems to be complete correct, while the 5.1 mix is faulty in all six points.

To my eyes:

Oversaturated colours. Boosted contrast. Blown highlights. Cropped.

And it seems to have the exact same amount of fine detail as the pre-existing AB master - only it appears softer due to the cropping.

I have to wonder if it was truly a new scan.

So does everyone agree that the French BD should be used as the source here? for the audio I want to fix the DTS-HD MA 5.1 and also include the original PCM.

These versions are what I have now,

Day of The Dead Collector's Edition (SHOUT Factory) USA
Day of The Dead (Anchor Bay) USA
Day of The Dead (Limited 25th Anniversary Edition Arrow) UK
Day of The Dead (Zavvi Limited SteelBook Arrow) UK
Day of The Dead (Happinet) Japan
Day of The Dead France **on the way**

Idunno, I thought it looked great.

Looking at Caps-A-Holic, it looks like a huge improvement over the Anchor Bay.

But I guess that's just me. *shrugs*

I like the look of the French version, it's what the Arrow release should have been. Although i have to say i really don't know what the correct color timing should be for this movie.

The Shout release certainly has a punchier look, but it does come at the expense of certain detail. You'll find one example in the following comparison with the Anchor Bay release where, in the Shout version (top), the X-ray photo is blown out.

While the French release is far from ideal, it would seem that it has the most picture information (no cropping, no clipping, no squashing and the least DNR) to work with. I am concerned with the relatively low bit-rate, however, and hope the compression isn't too detrimental to the PQ.

Yea the French BD looks the way to go here, and the color will be adjusted.

Anything you need for that?

I have some DVD and BD releases of this Movie. (At least one PAL DVD has a uncensored englisch DD 2.0 Track.)

So does anyone here have the bit perfect wav file for this title? I would prefer it as is from the LD no sync'ing or converting done in any way, we have something in store for both this movie Day and for the movie Dawn.

Yes I could use that if the LD PCM does not show up, I wish I had this LD but I do not.

Just to revive this thread to the Living Dead:

Seems as if ARTE in France / GErmany aired this movie in 25fps, and with english unaltered Audio. From a short comparison it seems that it is possible that the original Language Version of the airing has none of the altered audio.

If anyone is interested in adding it, I have the following I got from a DVD trading site around 15 years ago;

It’s a pretty popular cult movie it should get a 4k soon. The laser disc has the best audio for the movie tho.
