What do you HATE about the EU? — Page 30

The powers-that-be have made it clear that while the EU itself is no longer canon, it's possible that people/places/things from the EU may find their way into the new continuity over time.

Luke gifts a Red Lightsaber to Leia in Ambush at Correlia.

Its clearly a mistake made by the author and never noticed by the editor at Bantam Books.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

My apologies if this has been posted before.  I've never cared for the idea that Dooku was trained by anyone other than Yoda; the novels establish that his master was Thame Cerulean.  Although Yoda participated in the training of many Jedi (as evidence by his teaching a group of Younglings), Attack of the Clones established that Dooku had been his Padawan.  The mention of another master for Dooku seems redundant and unnecessary.

Or maybe -- just maybe -- oh, I don't know -- it was an intentional creative decision and the reason the editor never "noticed" it was because there was no stupid prohibition against EU Jedi wielding red lightsabers at the time?

Empire's End. A rushed ending for The Emperor and everything's back to where it was in ROTJ.

Ah, but it contradicts the PT, so it can't be that bad.

It is also implied in the OT that Obi-Wan was Yoda's padawan.

^Where I draw the distinction between the two instances is that Yoda was shown instructing multiple students (and served as a surrogate mentor for Obi-Wan following Qui-Gon's death), whereas Dooku's master was created specifically for the novels and had no basis in canon.

Obi-Wan not being Yoda's padawan would fall under "what do you hate about the prequels", and the prequels' problems don't make the EU's any better.

Since the EU was relegated to legends, I no longer have any problem with it.  Now if this were entitled "What do you hate about the canon." ....

How the Legacy comics predestined things to end up a certain way. Why should I care about Caedus, Abeloth, or the Lost Tribe when I know that Krayt is going to end up in charge? Why should I care what Luke, Leia, and Han are doing when I know that they'll be dead?

Ysalimiri  to the EU are what Midichlorians were to the film saga

I think the ysalamiri would have worked better had Zahn come up with a better explanation behind their ability to negate Force powers. His description of them creating a void in the Force doesn't just sound like it'd defy the laws of physics in the SW Universe (How could the ysalamiri even live if they repel the Force, which creates and is created by living things?) it sounds like an excellent way of killing something, not making them blind to the Force.

it just seemed like a cheap plot device to even the odds for Thrawn

They felt very Dungeons & Dragons to me. Now the Jedi need a +2 Wand of Force to overcome the negaforce lizards.

At that point the Big 3 needed to have a much lesser role.

Well, when "Star Wars" came out in 1977, there was a pretty good chance Luke, Leia, and Han would all die someday.

But we didn't know what sort of galaxy they'd leave behind.

- How KOTOR II went "You thought Revan and Malak turned to the dark side on their own and became Sith by taking control of Kun and Ulic's followers? Noooo, there's "true Sith" out there". I also hate that KOTOR II renamed the Second Sith War the "Jedi Civil War".

- The idea that you can become a Sith just by calling yourself one. Sorry Sith fanboys, but you can't.

Not any more stupid than Kun and Ulic Qel Droma self appointing themselves dark lords of the sith.

Or C'boath or Luke Skywalker self appointing themselves Jedi masters.

Luke goes one further making himself a Grand Master.

Because you know Yoda was in the prequels.

They didn't appoint themselves. A spirit appointed them and marked their foreheads.
