Finally got to see this projected onto a 110" screen last week in 1080p and it looks marvellous. Even with all the damage and uneven colour, it just feels right! Even on well-done releases, I think one can sub-consciously pick up on even small amounts of digital manipulation, sharpening, de-sharpening, dnr (no matter how subtle) etc. Seeing it this way was so refreshing, and I was surprised how much detail there was. Punchy image too in many places. Also loved seeing those film reel change markers and the associated increase in soundtrack crackles at those points - Just how I remember it used to be at the flicks! :) The whole thing just felt old-school to me and I love that! It's also nice to know these actual reels are part of Stat Wars history, in that presumably they're prints that were actually shown in theatres back in 1980? You can't get more authentic than this!
As others have said, this is my goto version now. I see zero point in any Laserdisc transfers or GOUT upscales now what with this, and Harmy's editions. This is the real (reel?!) deal. Thanks ever so much Team -1. Look forward to (fingers crossed) grindhouse editions of Star Wars and Jedi too.
