If the Blurays do indeed use the same audio mixes, as I strongly suspect they do, then there would be little purpose in going to the effort synching and editing together a lossy source when full quality lossless versions are available.

I think interest in including the cinema DTS comes from more of a completist attitude. Im with you 100% tho, it would be pointless and a waste of time if there identical and the bluray versions are the superior ones.
It is worth noting that the Dolby Digital 5.1 on the blu-ray sounds different than the TrueHD version, even when only decoding the core.
This maybe because of the compression as im no expert, but the TrueHD had a much bigger sound. I think even if you took this and compressed it to DVD spec DD5.1, with of the shelf or even free software encoders it would retain this.
A good place to listen would be when William Fichtner's 'Bank Manager' discharges his final round from the pump action shotgun in the Opening Sequence.
