I'd be interested if anyone wanted to share their personal approach to spoilers, either for Ep7 or their experience with the prequels.

I enjoy the speculation phase that we've been in so far, and nothing is out there that I would consider a spoiler at this point. To me, a spoiler comes from someone who knows for a fact what happens in the film. These were a problem during the release of the prequels toward the end when things like the comic adaptation or novelization were released a month or more before the film. Once the film is more or less finished, and is gearing up for release, real leaks of hardcore spoilers is possible. But until then, even if they are correct, speculation and rumors don't bother me.

That being said, what I plan to do is go ahead and consume all news and rumors I come across without censorship until closer to the release date. Somewhere around, say, October I will then require myself to immediately click away or avert my eyes or ears when I hear any sort of spoiler warning. I can still peruse Star Wars sites and listen to podcasts, but react to avoid spoilers with hopefully at least mild success. Next, on the arbitrary date I set a year ago of November 8, I will begin a Star Wars internet blackout. I'll temporarily remove bookmarks to all Star Wars sites, stop updating any podcasts or RSS feeds. Anything on TV other than a commercial or spot I'll have to avoid too. And for the record, the release of the soundtrack would have to be released prior to this date for me to listen to it before the film; I will probably choose not to, but I reserve that right so long as it falls before my cutoff date. There should be a few Ep7-related books or things put out before then that I can save to read during this time.

Of course, once the film is out there will be much to catch up on. More than anything else, I'm looking forward to watching all 7 with my young niece. Star Wars has that about it, something adults and children can enjoy together.

What are you all planning to do about spoilers?
