CNN teleprompter jockey confuses BTTF with BTTF Part 2. Hey, it's the one that came out in 1989 that's relevant to 2015 you nitwits!

Where were you in '77?

Right now the only way I can boot this machine is in Safe Mode.   Seems to be working ok in that mode but freezes whenever I boot in normally.

I had that problem, do you have your original windows install disc or did you make a system repair disc, because when i had that problem I booted it up and ran that disc and it repaired the problem.  Another thing that once worked for me was starting up the computer in safe mode and then restarting it in normal mode.

Hope you get your computer fixed soon.

This computer isn't worth fixing.   I'll have to buy a new one.

Agreed.

How come the D-Pads on all modern gaming systems suck?

The NES and Super NES D-Pads were perfect, why can't modern systems just copy those and stop trying to fix something that was never broken in the first place?!

The Saturn is my personal choice for best d-pad. I definitely agree with you though that most modern ones are pretty terrible. My Wii U's gamepad has a d-pad that's loose enough that if you fiddle with it for too long it goes crooked!

Ouch!

I don't remember the Saturn well enough to comment on that one, I only played it in shops when the system first came out and most of them only had Sonic R on their machines so it was hard to tell if the D-Pad was bad or it was just the game:)

The biggest problem is that on a lot of modern shooters the D-Pad is used to issue squad commands, I am sick of things going wrong because modern D-Pads are so wonky that when I press down the system reads it as up.  It's really bad with the classic controller on the Wii, dying in SMB3 because the D-Pad isn't as good as the ones on the older systems is just a pain and one of the reasons I stopped using the the VC and go to the trouble of hooking the older systems up to my Tv when I want to play games on them.

I am having one of those days where the meds that normally hemp me focus are not working and everything feels crazy and out of control.  I hate these days.

Speaking of myths, I'd like to bitch about Mythbusters doing a Simpsons special. Because THAT'S a show where I've sat and wondered "I wonder if that could really happen."

I hope these ridiculous specials is part of the reason the Build Team left.

The ps3 isn't bad probably because it's separate buttons. But yeah SNES for the win.  I used to have an adaptor that would allow me to plug my snes controller into the usb port of a computer and play PC games (who am I kidding... emulators :P) with a snes controller.  When I sold it I called myself such terrible names afterward that I had to report myself to management for harassment.

I used to have one of those things, it was the best!

Then my kid sister's stupid rabbit chewed it to bits.

Yeah the Playstation one isn't bad but the SNES D-Pad feels the best when I am playing for a long time. I wish all systems would just copy that.

Yeah, although I now use a ps3 controller to play my snes games on emulators and it actually feels pretty good.  (and I'm not pirating the roms, I buy them from the nintendo wii's shop channel as virtual console games and there's a program you can use to rip raw roms from virtual console channels)

I haven't been around for a few days thanks to French homework. I had to analyze a poem in French, and was supposed to create explanations for two others, memorize another, and prepare to read another expressively (though I'm marked on how well I read them all). I was given a week to prepare all that, but it's finally over (though I didn't finish everything I was supposed to do :P). And at the same time, I was given seven pages of Science homework.

All of the above was in French, of course, which increases the difficulty somewhat....

Doing the above homework reminded me of the line in Groundhog Day about studying 19th century French poetry, as I was doing just that. :P Until six months ago I never would have considered that I would possibly be stuck doing such a thing....

If I'd learned to read French much better than I did in school, I'd be going straight out and buying an original copy of 'The Incal' (And it's sequels/prequels).

It's a primary influence on Star Wars but I often feel the English translation that I own is suspect. I'd be ordering a lot of other un-translated Moebius stuff in fact... plus the new issue of Charlie Hebdo ;-)

I didn't take French in school. I took Spanish for four years and I think I know less now than when I started. And in the time since I finished school I've lost what little knowledge about the Spanish language I ever had. I've never had an ear for languages. I barely speak fluent English :p

Presumably, however, the translation was the influence, not the original...or does George Lucas read French?

But yes, a lot can be lost in translation. I plan to never again read a translation from French to English now that I'm mostly able to read them as they are.

You could be right. These things tend to have various traslations down the years though. It's also more of a visual thing, I can't recall too many story elements turning up in SW. The influence of the story can be seen more in Luc Besson's '5th Element', but Besson reads French quite well I believe.

I hear you, I will keep my own cannon for all thing and in that cannon Spock doesn't end up in a alternate universe in Star Trek, Peter Parker and Marry Jane are still married and their daughter is Spider-Girl, The Doctor is not half human, Data didn't die in a stupid suicide mission when they could have just set the phaser overload and used the transporter, if I like a Star Wars book it happened no matter what Disney says, Ripley and Newt made it back to earth safe and sound, and Shepard destroyed the Reapers with out killing a bunch of other people and lived.

FUCK OFFICIAL CANNON, MINE IS BETTER!!!
