Guardians of the Galaxy - Just as good as last time...maybe even better. The villain didn't bother me as much anymore and its message seemed stronger than last time; it really is solid escapism.
8.1 out of 10 'finger to the throat' metaphores.
I meant that you gave it a glowing review, and then just a mere 8.1/10.
I wouldn't call that review glowing.
Glowing = full of enthusiastic praise.
His review = Good movie, villain was less annoying, solid fun.
Don’t do drugs, unless you’re with me.

+1
Jailhouse Rock (1957)
Great film. Elvis gave a wonderful performance.
Destino (2003)
Nudity in a Disney film ... Even though I knew Dali collaborated on it, I can't say I saw that coming. It doesn't bother me, though; I wish the company had the balls to pull stuff like this more often, to be quite honest.
8/10
Death Becomes Her (1992)
Bruce Willis makes this movie. I'm not what you'd call a fan of the guy, but his against-type performance as a snivelling, alcoholic dweeb is played to perfection. It really makes me wish Willis would play these types of characters more often; the macho tough guy he plays in almost all his other movies has long since become a bore to watch.
8/10
Dumber & Dumber (1994)
Apparently I watched the unrated version. I suppose that may be the reason why this movie feels more juvenile and uneven than it did when I watched it last, way back in -- what? 2003? 2004? Or perhaps I've just outgrown the movie a bit.
Oh, well, whatever the case may be, I still enjoy Carrey and Daniels' performances, childish though they may be 99% of the time.
7.5/10
Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead (1991)
It seems that lately, whenever I watch a movie I liked in childhood for the first time in years, it often doesn't seem to hold up as well as it did when I was younger; either it comes off as insipid to me, or I simply find myself not as entertained by it as I once was.
On rarer occassions, though, when I rewatch a movie I didn't like all that much as a kid, I may find that it's improved over the years.
In this case, this movie falls into the latter category. I can't say why, exactly -- God knows this movie's nothing special -- but something about it that didn't work for me as a kid just clicks for me now.
8/10
Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas (1997)
Tim Curry's performance in this is simply excellent. If only the same could be said for the rest of the movie ...
6/10
Adventures in Babysitting (1987)
I think about 55% of this film's appeal lies with Elisabeth Shue and her gorgeous hairstyle.
*swoon*
8/10
Good Will Hunting - Really great, and I see why people view it with such high esteem. I should have watched it earlier in life.
Election - I think it is slightly forgotten, and going into it I had no idea how dark it would be, but it was great, and really funny and smart
The Person in Question
Murder By Death (1976)
Meh. Had Alec Guinness though!
Sir Alec received the script for a little thing called Star Wars while making that film. :)
Where were you in '77?
Just saw Wizard of Oz in a theatre. Made me feel like a kid again
The Person in Question
The best movie about killing witches and stealing their stuff ever! Good thing nobody in Oz will ever press charges.
The "it was all a dream, and you have a severe concussion" ending still ticks me off though. Even as a kid, I felt it was a cop out. (It's not a dream in the books.) Not to mention unless Miss Gulch died in the twister, she's going to be coming back for poor Toto...

Really? I always felt that it was left more ambiguous. Like no one believed her but she actually did go to Oz. I do hope that Miss Gulch died a horrible death by getting sucked into the tornado and Dorothy never had to deal with her again.
The Person in Question
Why does everyone hate that woman? Even as a kid I didn't get it. I mean they refuse to put Toto on a leash and then he trespasses in her garden, digs it up, and bites her. The dog is clearly a danger to others and his owners refuse to train him or tie him up, what was she supposed to do besides going for the sheriff? As someone who has had a dog who was hard to train and has been attack by a dog that belonged to someone else I can tell you she did what she was supposed to do. Dorthy and her Aunt and Uncle were completely in the wrong, they do not have the right to destroy Gulch's property and in most states any dog that attacks people will be put down. This seems to have been a problem for a long time, Gulch wanted them to control their dog and they refused, what was she supposed to do if she didn't want to get attacked again?
I am sorry but going to the law to have a problem taken care of after you are attacked has never struck me as an act of pure evil, i just don't get how she is the bad guy.

I don't believe that she was attacked. I don't buy for one second that she was anything but a filthy liar.
The Person in Question
We see the dog chase her and the way Toto acts around her is exactly how dogs act before they attack people and given that they refuse to put him on a leash they can't claim to know one way or the other. Dorthy says Toto was doing it again that implies that he had destroyed Gulch's flowers before and they refused to put him on a leash. I am just telling that once you have complaints like that any animal control officer would have taken that dog away. Was putting him on a leash really too much to ask?
Why does a dog have the right to destroy people's property, because it is cute???? Under that logic we don't have the right to set up mouse traps in our homes. Sorry but I just don't see how Gultch was in the wrong or deserved to die. Dorthy was just a spoiled brat that should not have had a dog in the first place if she wasn't going to control it.
Why isn't Dorthy allowed to marry multiple men? Or Toto?
Who's Dorthy?
Also, you know she wanted Toto killed.

I think the liner notes to the 50th anniversary release stated it was a dream vs. it really happened in the book. (It could always be wrong.) Unless returning to Kansas involved time travel, Dorothy doesn't seem to have been gone very long. The time spent in Oz seems like it was a few days at least.
Miss Gulch may have had a legitimate gripe, but she comes off as an unpleasant person at best. Auntie Em actually wants to swear at her. Uncle Henry should have at least offered to pay damages to defuse the situation, but then we probably wouldn't have a movie.
In the meantime, where the heck did the Scarecrow get a gun? Forget the hanging munchkin, this is the real mystery!

And to think all this time I was under the impression that Dorothy bit her dog!

Because the Tin Man's gay, the Scarecrow's impotent, the Cowardly Lion's got Down's Syndrome, and Toto refuses to do it any other way but doggy style.

Yeah that could have gone a long way towards smoothing things over.
I guess there are gun shots in Oz, the real question is why didn't he use the gun on the flying monkeys?
