I would suggest this DVD set for calibration "Digital Video Essentials" it may cost a bit more but you get MORE with this set + you can select the best calibration disc for your system - Not one DVD for all systems

The THX optimizers aren't all the same - some may be designed specifically for the film they accompany. The Video Essentials disc is a much better baseline.

Are you sure about that. THX makes films so that all there films are on the same consistant color scale. The optimizer makes your set up good for all THX films. I sent an email to them to find out for sure.

I use this:

http://www.ovationmultimedia.com/aviapro.html

and this:

http://www.ovationmultimedia.com/opticone.html

But I'm nuts.

I would pick up both Avia and Digital Video Essentials if you can. Avia's only real flaw is that it can't pass blacker than black. Otherwise, it has more test patterns that are of higher quality than those included with DVE. DVE also has some of the most maddening, illogical user menus I've ever seen. It's a lesson in bad user interface design.
