So how do I start a petition to see Star Wars: Detours?

Who's with me? C'mon TV's Frink I know you are with me.

Going by the clips that made it to youtube, I'd sooner watch the Holiday Special again to be honest. ;)

Oh my god I completely forgot this thing was a thing (is a thing?). The funniest thing about it is that not only did LFL green light it, but it took them 40 episodes to realize it was a bad idea.

Not that I think an animated Star Wars comedy show is inherently a bad idea, but to put it out at this critical moment for the franchise with the sequels coming out? Awful idea.

Also I remember the clips weren't very good.

JEDIT: Watched the trailer, don't know if I ever saw that. Have to admit there are a few good jokes in there.

Many Robot Chicken personnel were involved, but you'd never know it from those clips. They would have been better off doing it as an RC spinoff instead of grotesque CGI caricatures that makes the HS cartoon Han Solo look good.

The whole idea of Lucasfilm sanctioned parody seems at odds with the very concept of parody to begin with. You don't see Mad Magazine asking permission to lampoon anything.

How far we've come since the days when Fox actually wanted to sue over Hardware Wars.
Lucas talked them out of it, thankfully.

Robot chicken? Awful. Not surprised Detours is a failure.

No chance these bad boys are coming out anytime soon.

To me, that's just par for what Lucas ultimately became.  Sort of a take on the adage All publicity is good publicity.  He allowed all sorts of fan films, parodies, books, etc, no matter how inflammatory or disrespectful or how clearly and truthfully they exposed his lifetime of lying (Secret History Of Star Wars).

He even created and profited off of his own disrespect for the fans. He changed the original cantina scene to the point where nearly all the fan base is furious and then sold T-shirts mocking the people upset by the change. (Han shot first Ts).  He even went one step further and wore one during a behind the scenes documentary for Indiana Jones, thereby guaranteeing it would be seen and preserved.  He had no trouble being the company that creates a need, then fills it.

He's proven time and time again that he has no respect for the films, the story, the franchise, or the fans.  Makes perfect sense to me that he would also have zero problem making money off of all the things that helped turned the franchise into a joke.

*note to self*

Have a morning coffee before posting.  ;-)

It's also pretty well known that he's about the biggest dick on the planet, unless you're a sycophant.

A truly disgusting human being.

Yeah, giving all that money to charity is the work of another Hitler, no question.

That's some kind of moral code to think you can commit whatever sins you want and still buy your way into paradise or even a clean conscience.

The Catholic Church sold indulgences for centuries.

I see that you are similar to DrCrow and generalfrievous.  You all need a sense of proportion and reality.

Being an ass to your fanbase & franchise isn't a sin.  It's just being an ass.

His work for charity is regularly commended, and should be.  While I don't like the guy personally, it has nothing to do with him being a bad person (he isn't one in the broader sense).

It's strictly about his megalomania, historical revisionism and dishonesty with regard to his films.

^^He has a history of being a dick to his employees and fans alike. I'm not saying he murders puppies or anything in his spare time, but no amount of money can make up for whatever bad things he's done in his life to people (like we're all guilty of). It's just that being rich doesn't give you a license to do whatever the **** you want and then throw money at people.

Alderaan,

Might be time to reel it in a bit.

Actually, their Star Wars parodies are some of their best work. Palpatine as a perpetually frustrated businessman, more upset at the cost of replacing the Death Star than the political implications, is frequently hilarious. Who knew trying to run the Empire was such a pain in the butt?

They even made Boba Fett cool to me again...

They have even mocked George's SE revisions, and the plot holes of the prequels. George either hasn't noticed this, or doesn't care so long as he's gets a check.

Can't we at least get to page two before Godwin's Law kicks in? ;)

Do you have any stories to back this up?  The only dickish thing I can remember him doing was telling some fans to grow up when they asked him about a release of the untouched original trilogy.

As for him wearing that Han Shoots First t shirt, I think he was just trying to have fun.  It shows he has a sense of humor about himself and probably doesn't take the OT that seriously.  However when confronted about what he should do artistically he's unbending.

The Detours show was a bad idea but was a way for Lucasfilm to capitalize on the parody market that has grown out of Star Wars like with the Family Guy shows.  Why let others make money on their concepts when they can produce their own show that does the same thing?

Robot Chicken's Palpatine is the only thing I can actually stand Seth MacFarlane in. Now that is something.

Duracell does more than enough loathing to keep the rest of us covered, so let's not all start doing it too..... ;)

MacFarlane is hit or miss for me, but he does have a tendency to run a joke into the ground until it's not funny any more. Haven't seen the Star Wars Robot Chicken stuff, but their regular material made me change the channel fast.

This cartoon looks awesome. Wish we got that instead of lego star wars.
