Apparently tehparadox's PM inbox is full so I'll just post these here

 That makes no sense.

Also, I'm pretty sure you aren't allowed to post those here.

@Dennis: Well, I meant you could just PM me the links and I'd add them to the main teh thread under the heading of "other language options" but you can of course start your own thread as well, if you want :-)

@Yirmeyahu: I'm taking care of the animation and stuff myself. I would however love for someone to do the menu (as in create the buttons and stuff) and disc authoring for me - it's way over my head and I don't really feel like learning it all.

@Harmy: DVD authoring is something that I've been interested in taking a look at for myself. We can discuss design in PM if you're interested. My take is that design should be relatively consistent between the look and feel of the case art, menu background animations, alongside with screen layout/how screens are wireframed. The technical aspects of the DVD authoring process are just that and can be figured out (RTFM wins the day). Design comes first.

Kermit [to Yoda]: “If you only knew the power of the Green Side. Frank-Oz never told you what happened to your father…”
Yoda: “Me, enough he told!  To Me, you killed Jim, he told!”

Kermit: “Erm… No… I am your father.”

Yoda: “No… No! Impossible, that is! True, that is not!”

Kermit: “Search your feelings… You know it to be true!”

Yoda: “Frog? Pig?” 900+ year old Pig-Frog Muppet hybrid, I am? looks into the reflective surface of the swampy waters below NOOO! NOOOOOO!"

Kermit: “Yoda, you can bring balance to the Force. It is your destiny! Join me, and together we will rule the swamp as father and son!”

Neat! I've just liked and shared this, I hope it'll be kept updated. What made you do this now, if I might ask? I always got the idea that you wanted to bring this issue to light, but didn't really want too much publicity on your project (for obvious reasons).

I'm glad you did this, though. More people need to know about your work.

Well, I finally started working on ROTJ and I thought a FB page would be a good place to share updates because the threads here usually get cluttered with long winded discussions, which is fine since that's what forums are for but they are not the best way for people to keep up to date on the projects and I figured, after all the publicity the project got lately, staying on the down low isn't really an option any more anyway.

What exactly are the significant changes between v2.1 and v2.5?

I only remember fixing the ® at the Fox title card at the beginning.

Nothing major - from what I can recall, I fixed the wrong cropping in the first quarter of the film (but there was only like a one pixel difference at the bottom, nothing big), Vader's glowing buttons were still blue instead of green in a few shots in v2.1 and those were fixed in v2.5, then I also fixed the color of Ben's robe in the shot where he activates his lightsaber and there may have been some more very minor fixes like that, which I don't even remember. Probably the most significant changes were getting rid of the flicker in the scene where Luke finds 3P0 hiding because R2 ran away and using 35mm scans to restore the missing frames from the shot when Han shoots Greedo.

Can I just say thank you again for doing all this?

I mean it when i have not been this impressed by the work done by a fan to restore something since the early days of the Doctor Who DvDs.

When I showed these to my mom she cried because she and her sisters are now living all over the country and rarely see each other and one of the last things they did when she was young and they were all still living in the same house was see the first movie in theaters over two dozen times.  She told me that for the first time at home she was seeing the same movie she had seen all those years ago and she could make out all of the details on screen with her eyesight getting worse.

Yet even after that you are still working to make these even better, thank you so much from both my mother and me.

Harmy,

My oldest cousin was a HUGE Star Wars fan when he was a kid. He remembers going to see Star Wars in the theatre in 1977.

Well, yesterday I gave him the Despecialized Edition Trilogy as a Christmas present. And he LOVES them. He apparently told my aunt and uncle he wanted to watch Star Wars at my grandmother's house while he and they were still in town (since she has a 50" TV and he does not).

Kudos again to you, good sir.

While we're gushing over your work, allow me to add to it.

Before I heard about the Despecialized Edition, my love for Star Wars was long gone. When I saw A New Hope, I knew the CGI ships and Jabba were out of place for a 70s movie, but I had no idea that changes were made later (so, not quite that bright, but at least I knew something was weird here). Now, your work has allowed me to enjoy these movies again, without being taken out by all the weird changes.

And, just like the original Star Wars films inspired filmmakers, your project has made me passionate for film restoration/preservation, and over the past year-ish I've learned so much about it. I'm just so amazed and shocked at just how willy-nilly we treat our cultural heritage. Thanks for opening my eyes.

Can't remember hearing anything lately, but once the Blu-ray version is available, are there already some volunteers lined up to burn copies for those who are unable to do so themselves?

I'd be willing.  I have a really fast dual layer burner and and I huge stack of blank bluray discs.

Once the bluray version is out there and I have downloaded it just let me know if you want a copy via PM.

North Korea will never allow that to happen.

I'm still trying to produce my own Blu-ray using Adobe's Encore, and I'm running into a new problem. I re-encoded the video (raising the bitrate slightly to prevent introducing new compression artifacts while setting the profile to "Main") into something Encore will accept, but now it's rejecting the DTS-HD MA audio tracks. Initially, when importing the tracks as de-muxed individual files, Encore throws a warning about not being able to preview DTS files, but then goes ahead and imports them. Also, once they're imported, Encore reports their duration to be much longer than they should be. Once I initiate the "build" function, it quickly fails with an error message stating "This file is not legal for Blu-ray". Anyone have an idea of what the problem, or perhaps a work-around, might be?

I've already invested a number of hours trying to create a BD with menus and bonus features in MultiAVCHD, but have only managed to create a series of coasters. I've also considered just crafting a movie-only disc in tsMuxer, but I really want more on it than that. Is anyone else using Encore and having some success?

Thanks for all of your hard work Harmy.  I watched the current versions of all three movies, and they all played very well.  Everything is exactly as I remember from when I watched it as a child.  I hated how George changed the ending of ROTJ.  It was prolly one of the biggest issues I had with the remastered special editions.

The only issue I noticed with all three of the despecialized versions, were some audio sync issues with STAR WARS v2.5.  The sync issues are pretty noticeable in some scenes, and don't exist in others.  Has anyone else noticed them, or is it just me?

The only audio sync issue on Star Wars v2.5 is toward the end of the film, and it's a one frame sync problem (~.042 ms), which most people find unnoticeable.

Any other sync issues are much more likely caused by either downloading a low-bitrate re-encode, or issues with the playback software.  I know some players find DTS-MA to be a little exotic.  You can test this by trying one of the Dolby Digital tracks (i.e. the commentary).  If it syncs fine, then it's the playback software that's the problem.  That's my guess.

Ya... I just played back a few scenes in VLC, and I didn't notice any sync issues.  I ran into the issues with two different devices.  One was an Intel NUC running OpenELEC, and the other was a Samsung Smart TV.  I'll have to go through the movie again.  I'm also watching the MKV version with DTS-MA audio, which I grabbed from MySpleen.

What version of Encore are you using? DTS HD audio is listed as a new feature in CS6, so if you have an older edition that's the problem. If you are using CS6, I'd check Adobe's site; hopefully it's something simple.

Sorry for the slight thread derail! :)
