Anybody hoping to see more diplomat Leia in the new continuity?

Especially her doing her diplomat thing without Han and Luke. That aspect always fascinated me.

Not really.  Especially after seeing Padme to do it in the PT.

So far the only diplomacy we see in the movies is her bribing teddy bears with food.

I'd like to see more Leia commanding troops and giving speeches and shooting fools who don't respect.

 Lucas will not be involved...

That sounds like a bad idea. Especially if I think of her very uninspiring speech from ESB.

She was never a diplomat. She was the Rebellion's spy in the Imperial Senate. She traveled on a consular ship because she thought it would keep her immune from search and seizure. Her "mercy missions" were intelligence operations. After her cover was blown, the Senate was dissolved, and her planet was blown to smithereens, she became kind of useless. The military elements of the Rebellion--all humans, probably Alderaanians--kept her around, but they didn't send her out on diplomatic missions, a task for which she seems temperamentally ill-suited.

I'm not sure what a picture of a Timothy Zahn book has to do with anything. Is that part of the Disney canon now? I'm less interested in the EUs than in the primary evidence of the films. The previous EU had several brainbugs based on superficial readings of the films, and I suspect the new one will, too.

As for being a senator and having "soft skills," I think you overestimate the skill overlap, and make assumptions about the skills late Imperial Senators actually had. Leia's only apparent qualification to sit in the Senate is her royal station. Given the rather swift dissolution of the Senate, it seems none of the other senators brought anything especially vital to the Empire, either. Even if there is a significant overlap of skills, having the skills to be a diplomat does not make one a diplomat.

Looking at the movies, and not the misinterpretations of Lucasfilm Licensing, Ballantine, Del Rey, West End Games, Wizards of the Coast, or whoever hands out the writing assignments these days--is Leia a diplomat? Is she a member of the Imperial, Alderaanian, or Rebellion ministry of state? Does she officially represent one sovereign state to another? Does she overtly collect information from a foreign state? Does she provide consular services to citizens who find themselves on foreign soil? Does she claim, or exercise, diplomatic immunity?

Who out of the Big 3 will do diplomacy? The naive farmboy, the blue collar Han or Leia when it's necessary? Discovering new cells, involving different rebel groups and managing their relationships is very important for the Rebeelion.

none of the above.  Lando's the guy that can rub elbows with the best of 'em and broker deals ;P

anyway, this is one of my biggest concerns with the ST - whats leia up to?  i think there are some opportunities for some interesting storylines and moments with Luke now being her twin.

I'd like to see the diplomat leia - but then also the spunky princess who wasnt afraid to get down and dirty.  She is not young and won't be in much action, but it would be great if she tells a few people off and still doesnt take crap after all these years.

But does carrie still have it?

i keep hearing "this is about the new generation, you need to forget about the big 3!!  each trilogy has a new generation!!!!!"  but there's a huge flaw in that reasoning:  you had a bunch of characters that died in the PT - so of course they weren't gonna be in the OT!  and the ones that were - vader, yoda, ben, palpatine, had either significant time or were critical roles to the story.  So i cant go for this idea of the big 3 being cameos.  Sounds like for Han and Luke, that won't be the case.  But i want leia to be a part of this as well.

click here if lack of OOT got you down

Spy/diplomat, what's the difference ...

The scene I'm most looking forward to is when an giant AT-AT walker breaks the wall of the senate chamber and sits down to read the newspaper.

That's the tv version, isn't it? We need to preserve it.

From all of the Episode 7 spoilers (whether they are true or false), there hasn't been anything on Princess Leia.  No pictures, not even one tidbit as I am starting to wonder if she has the smallest role of the big 3.

I know she was on Craig Ferguson last week, and was funny as she usually is.  She said it was suprisingly easy to get back into character after 30 years.  And then she said they misused her character in Episode 7, paused, and then said she was joking after the crowd seemed displeased.  But I wonder if she really was joking?  And she just has a bit part?

I have it on good authority that Frink wants to see more slave Leia.

“Darth Vader. Only you could be so bold. The Imperial Senate will not sit still for this. When they hear you've attacked a diplomatic —”

I don't know what you're talking about. I am a member of the Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan.”

You could say she's not claiming diplomatic immunity here, but it would be a stretch.

“That’s impossible, even for a computer!”

There were some rumors about her appearing in the teaser either on Coruscant or with some guards addressing a higher authority.  Of course, none of the rumors about the teaser were true, not even the rumors about the music. There was also a rumor about the Hutt's putting out a hit on her for some reason.

I saw her on Ferguson, too, but I think she was joking the whole time because I believe she went on to talk about having a romance with a wookiee.  She's probably not allowed to talk specifically about her character and role in the film.  She's been pretty good about being hush hush on the specifics of subject even before she was officially announced as part of the cast.

With all due my respect i have 0 interest in seeing Leia on the big screen again. I was talking books and comics.
