All Things Star Trek — Page 57

People are worried about if they throw out the current script that they won't get a new one in time to start shooting for a 2016 release. I'm pretty sure that every writer in Hollywood has a Trek spec script, and if they didn't, they've written one since Friday.

My co-host and I talk about our thoughts on this whole business in next week's podcast. I'll post a link when it's up.

Yeah and don't forget the basic outline for the script to Star Trek six came together in a single two hour meeting, and the script for Star Trek two was completely rewritten in three weeks. So good scripts can be written fast, you just need good writers.  I think Paramount should turn to someone with more of a TV background since TV writers are used to banging out or rewriting scripts very quickly.

 Looking forward to the podcast.

I'd rather read what two guys wrote on a napkin at Denny's than whatever cripe (crap + tripe) Orci managed to create.

Hmm....

I had made my peace with Orci directing, and now I'm standing here filled with so much hope. The question is whether or not the work that has been done until now will stay; my sources tell me that the script Orci was working on saw the Enterprise, the Vulcans and a new alien race competing to get a time travel device. The Vulcans want to go back and stop the destruction of their planet, and the time travel schtick is what would allow Chris Pine and William Shatner to share the screen. Is that still going to be the plot of the movie - a MacGuffin that could wipe out the previous two films?

[UPDATE: I've been in touch with some folks and it seems like the script was one of the problem factors. Paramount shut the production down last month, sending home all the design people while they battled over the direction of the screenplay. I imagine all this stuff is gone now]

You know, if Orci's plan was to fix the timeline Days of Future Past style...I wish it had happened.

I'd like to see Frakes get the gig. He's qualified, and seeing all the online naysayers eat a super size serving of crow would be sweet as well. ;)

What has Frakes directed besides First Contact? Nothing good.

They need someone with JJ's energy. Edgar Wright would be the perfect choice times 10. But I think he's already working on another film. Joe Cornish would likely be the next best thing.

Let's just all be thankful Orci's out and hope his script is jettisoned into space never to be seen again.

He has directed a lot of episodic television. I didn't like the live action Thunderbirds, but it was well made from a technical standpoint.

And we already had a Trek film with a director who was allegedly so unfamiliar with Trek, they thought Geordi was an alien! ;)

I doubt Stuart Baird watched any TNG episodes at all before making Nemesis.

If you give Frakes a great script, he makes a great movie / episode out of it.

If you give Frakes a shitty script, he makes an acceptable movie/episode out of it.

^So that explains why First Contact is the only TNG film that comes even close to being good.

Wait, you actually liked something?

Oh never mind, you said "even close to being good."

I must be the only person on the planet who actually likes Nemesis.

I like also Insurrection, but not as much as the TOS movies. The TNG and VOY episodes he directed are great too

I'm believing about 15% of what badassdigest says. It really sounds like he's just making things up to make Orci sound like a monster because he doesn't like him personally.

It appears as if that list wasn't too far off from the truth. Guys, meet the next director of Star Trek... JUSTIN LIN!!

Well, Star Trek isn't ever coming back, I guess I should try to accept that now.
