Do the Star Wars movies contain evidence that Lucas makes it up as he goes? — Page 4

I just like running with the idea that midi-chlorians are Force-sucking parasites which alter the DNA of their hosts to make them incapable of independant existence.

They don't create the Force, they don't connect you to the Force, they just siphon the Force from you while making you dependant on them for your continued survival.

It allows me to fully accept what is revealed about midi-chlorians while still taking a huge dump on the concept, and that is so much more satisfying than flat-out disregarding them as non-canon.

I highly doubt they will ever be mentioned by name again in future films.

I love the part in Star Trek when Scotty takes up 5 minutes of screen time explaining to everyone how a Warp Drive works.

Seriously, can't things just be left to the imagination?

Yes, please. Let us instead discuss Stargate SG-1 and point out how it is a complete disgrace as a continuation of the original movie.

Saving for potential use on TFA release day. ;)

 I fully expected that. ;)

But I'm pretty sure Lucasfilm and Disney know it's a stinkbomb that's easy to avoid, just like Jar Jar.

Midi-chlorians will be revealed to be from the planet Zeist.

“That’s impossible, even for a computer!”

“You don't do ‘Star Wars’ in Dobly.”

This. Plagueis created them in ancient times.

i forgot which thread it was but someone relayed a story regarding a video game conference that developers were having with lucas and were forewarned 1)never to say no  and 2)not to propose alternatives to how the force works

or something like that.  the meeting was apparently comical and frightening.

If that was the case and lucas is still tied to this as a 'consultant', I would almost count on midichlorians being mentioned.  In fact, I can totally picture lucas demanding that a scene is included - complete with a cartoon midichlorian ala Jurassic Park - that fully explains to Boyega's and Daisy's characters the biological concepts of the force.

Lucas no longer owns Star Wars. He did during that meeting, but now that he doesn't, he has no authority to demand that a scene be included.

He's one of the largest shareholders. I'm sure he has much more authority than you think.

Of course he has authority! He's a reptilian from Alpha Draconis, after all, and they control the world!

This reminds me of what Stephen King mentioned in his book "On Writing" (I'm pretty sure that's where I remember this from) - some writers like to structure things out, whereas others - like Stephen King himself - like to just plant a seed and see where it takes you, hope that the story evolves properly and finds its natural conclusion.

Basically, some writers are architects, while others are more like botanists. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, so there's no right or wrong approach.

In Lucas' case - dude just kind of rolled with it in both directions it seems (with more emphasis on botany). Till he accidentally cracked the biggest code in cinematic history...

OOT.com has finally solved the mystery of what happened to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.

Nebuchadnezzar ... meet George Lucas.

Do we actually know who came up with each and every idea? I think it's very unlikely that some of the more dramatic twists were ever conceived by George Lucas.

its funny when the backlash first started against the virgin birth, lucas and all the apologists tried to downplay it by claiming 'every religion has at least one story of a virgin birth!!'

what hilarious is that it actually made it even more stupid!!

This was The Emperor's new Clothes moment for me and made me realize that lucas has no understanding of myths beyond only the most superficial level.  He got caught up in his own hype as a 'mythmaker' and said to himself 'i need to make this mythical!!  let me see..oh! yeah of course! i'll contrive a virgin birth!!!!!  and then i'll make a prophecy!"

Plinkett hit it right on the head that the only reason we think Anakin is something special is because the other characters simply say so over and over again.  And lucas  had to overblow his importance because he was completely incompetant in developing anakin's character.

there is no payoff or impact in OT because it wasnt an idea and Lucas had no time machine.  We should actually be grateful he didnt physically force and demand Ewan Mcgregor to redub Alec Guinesses lines in the OT to make references to this stupid plot device.

but bewarned:  if you're looking at the ST as a return to form, keep your expectations in check and count on Lucas demanding that the virgin birth is referenced ad nauseam.  I keep hearing 'lucas is not involved anymore.  he doesnt have control anymore'.  but how do we really know this?  True, he is concentrating his efforts on ruining CHicago's LakeFront with his vanity museam.  But How do we know Kathleen Kennedy isnt serving as Lucas' stooge? The sales contract called for Disney to take his 'treatments', how much can they deviate?  if the production team finds an idea absolutely stupid, can they ditch it?

sheeeeit.  im ranting and repeating myself again.  need to stop.

[sigh]  just sell us the damn OOT.

He said so himself. He hasn't even seen the trailer.

I highly doubt Lucas hasn't seen at least some aspects of the teaser, unless if he's living in a hole.  Kennedy, a close friend and business partner, didn't offer to show him the teaser? I think he's saying he hasn't seen it to avoid talking about it.  Also, I thought Lucas was acting a consultant and was in contact with Abrams from time to time... at least, according to his son...

He has a new wife and a new baby. He doesn't care about Star Wars anymore. The whole point of retiring and selling the company was to get away from it all.

I signed up just to post this video

Mark Hamill himself seems to agree with the sentiment of this thread, that Lucas made it up as he went along
