Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 510

I'd like to create my own BDs of this and Empire using Adobe's Encore. However, after de-muxing the MKVs and importing the video and audio streams, Encore still requires that the video be transcoded. The reason given is that the video's Profile is set to "High" while Encore requires it to be set to "Main". Has anyone else encountered this, and developed a solution? I'd rather not have to transcode the video and risk compromising the quality.

Thanks in advance for any help with this. And thank you, Harmy, for the outstanding work you've done thus far!

Amazing work Harmy! Much respect to you and the community.

I've recently watched the 10min short "making of" video on YT, taking into account all of the sources used to create the DE.

Very impressive work.. I'm at a loss for words..

*WE'RE NOT WORTHY! WE'RE NOT WORTHY!* ;-)

It looks as though you are planning on a full BD release with additional special features. Is this correct?

Hey, Kermit, welcome to the forum!

Harmy is currently working on the full BD release w/ special features, but I don't think it will be released until he finishes Jedi 2.0, if I'm remembering correctly. At any rate, I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

Thanks! I'm certain that it will be!

Kermit [to Yoda]: “If you only knew the power of the Green Side. Frank-Oz never told you what happened to your father…”
Yoda: “Me, enough he told!  To Me, you killed Jim, he told!”

Kermit: “Erm… No… I am your father.”

Yoda: “No… No! Impossible, that is! True, that is not!”

Kermit: “Search your feelings… You know it to be true!”

Yoda: “Frog? Pig?” 900+ year old Pig-Frog Muppet hybrid, I am? looks into the reflective surface of the swampy waters below NOOO! NOOOOOO!"

Kermit: “Yoda, you can bring balance to the Force. It is your destiny! Join me, and together we will rule the swamp as father and son!”

It's easy enough to create menu-free BDs using tsmuxergui, which is what I do.  Some authoring tools simply don't let you do anything without a transcoding step, and I'm not sure it's avoidable, other than using different tools.  There may be other tools out there that allow you to create menus without transcoding.

That's what I was afraid of. :( I did use tsmuxer to create a simple BD of v2.5 several months ago, but would really like to make something where I can include bonus features. I've spent quite a bit of time trying to put something together with multiAVCHD, as well, but didn't have much luck.

Thanks for the reply!

Total newbie here saying hi (a relative graybeard who stood in line many times at the Coronet Theater in SF in 1977) and asking one of *those* questions ....

I put the file on a USB drive and plugged it into my Samsung BD-E5300 Blu-ray player. I got video (dear maker, it's beautiful) but no audio. The error message "Not supported audio codec" flashed on the screen. I imagine the player isn't smart enough or is simply incompatible. Is there anything I can do on my end to rescue the situation? I'm not too tech-savvy, but I'll try anything. Thanks muchly.

If it's like my Panasonic BD player you'll need to convert the audio to 'AAC'.  XVID4PSP is a free program that's perfect for converting audio.

That means that the player doesn't support DTS-MA audio in an MKV container.  This is a little on the dumb side because a Blu-ray player HAS TO support DTS-MA in Blu-ray video.

Your options are: listen to a Dolby Digital track (tracks 5+), but none of these include the original English audio, or learn how to demux/remux the MKV and make yourself a homemade Blu-ray (Blu-ray burner required).  Or download the AVCHD and try your luck there, although Samsung's support for AVCHD disks is spotty and your player already has one big strike against it.

Actually checking for player firmware updates would be very worthwhile.  This is such a weird shortcoming even they probably consider it a bug.

I will find this app and give it a try. If I have any luck I will post my results. Thank you.

Rats. I may be totally out of luck here (unless I go for a hardware purchase). I did upgrade the firmware; no luck. Thanks for the info, though.

Actually stretch's suggestion to convert the audio track would allow you to keep using the MKV format, so as long as you're okay with all that demuxing, converting, and remuxing, it's doable.

Actually, when using xvid4psp it would only be demuxing and converting.  You would demux with mkvmerge and then xvid4psp will do everything else in one step.  You want to select Copy for copying the AVC video over.  Then you select Custom for audio conversion to AAC.  I'm not positive but I think you need AAC-LC selected.

Has anyone figured out how to make a Bluray menu for the converted MKV?

Last I remember us talking about it, there were too many audio tracks to include them all in the menu or something.

Okay this may not be what you want because it doesn't come with all of the options but I am just putting this out there.

I have Blurays of DSE of the Star Wars movies that I burnt and here is how I did it. I just converted the MKV files to HD mpeg2 files and then created menus and and chapter breaks for them on each disc using Sony dvd architect pro and while they don't have the sub tittle options because I don't like putting all that work into it I am sure if you wanted to there is a way to extract those and put them on the disc and it only has the surround sound audio track but it sounds great.  I don't know much about formatting video files so I don't think this is what most of you are looking for but if anyone is just looking for a fast, simple way to get the movies onto a disc so you can watch them on your bluray player that is how I did it.

When I had my old computer setup I had problems playing back DTS-MA tracks all the time.  I was able to convert the DTS-MA tracks to DTS using TSmuxer with ease.  It might be worth a shot if the file is still giving you trouble.

iWinsolft Free video converter does it for me as well as youtube video downloader. Still as I said I only do the simple stuff so this may not be what you are looking for.

TSMuxer, definitely.

Also, one wonders if you have a smart TV, and if so what it supports.

It's a not-smart-enough TV. It's a six-year-old Samsung that has a USB port but can recognize only audio and photos. (There's no firmware update available for it.) I had wondered, briefly, if it might be a problem with the TV, but the error message is clearly coming from the Blu-ray player. I'm gonna need a Muxing for Dummies book.

Yeah, my parents' TV is a Samsung and it can play MKV from a USB drive but it often doesn't support the audio codecs.

I haven't seen this yet on the forums considering the very little time I've been here within the community, so please forgive me if it's come up already..

Knowing that Harmy is working on a future BD release with special features etc. and I'm guessing that this could take considerable time to publish; I'm wondering if instead of each of us individually authoring DVD/BD menus etc. if it would be possible for us as a community to create a menu shell specifically tailored for DE trilogy for all to use?

A little bit of community sourcing?

I'm not as familiar with DVD/BD authoring (I've only done it a handful of times myself) as I am with other forms of interactive digital media so I will leave this to the more experienced community members to answer. (And if this has been brought up already, or if I've missed it elsewhere in the forums, then I apologise!)

But it seems to me that if the more experienced community members were able to collaborate on creating a standardized menu shell for Harmy's DE, it would allow for easier customization (DVD5/9 & BD etc) alongside a fleshed out tutorial (how to add/remove audio tracks or add special features etc. on top of the base shell that would be provided).

I have experience with special effects and various forms of animation. I'm sure others in the community have a mountain of media talent to contribute. We could create some very elegant, minimalistically animated/designed menus.

Does this seem to be a pointless endeavor? Has this been done? Are there technical aspects of the DVD/BD authoring process that I am currently ignorant?

I would love to hear some feedback on this and if this would in anyway contribute to your work Harmy, I would be more than happy to put time in on this as I'm sure others would as well. If executed properly, I think that this could be an excellent compliment to not just the amazing work that Harmy and other editors have shared with the community, but also to the amazing disc/case art for the DE.
