IIRC:

Harmy's 1.x series used frames from NTSC,NTSC,PAL (in trilogy order)

Harmy's existing 2.x series accidentally used frames from PAL,PAL, but after discovering this, he did not release "fixed" versions because the difference was so unnoticeable in the first two films.

I believe all of his future releases of all films will use frames from the NTSC GOUT.

Thanks CatBus, good to know.  If anyone is really worried about it, they should be able to create the mixes they need.

I assume Team Blu has continued to sync to the NTSC versions.

Heh, no.  IIRC, Team Blu's DVDv3 and Bluv1 went NTSC,NTSC,PAL.  Bluv2 will be NTSC,NTSC,NTSC.

Isn't this fun? But in the long term, NTSC seems to be the way to go.

This is correct.

SW: PAL 144053

ESB: PAL 150204 & 150205

Thanks! Would I be removing a frame's worth of audio at these points or adding it (in order to convert GOUT to Harmy)?

If possible, could someone post screens of these frames (well, just 150204 for ESB)? Would be a big help, don't think I currently have any software installed which tells the frame #. I found an old thread with a cap of SW 144053, but the pic link was no longer good.

144053
Pic courtesy of Red5.
It's the last frame of the shot, and reel.

Harmy's ESB v2.0 didn't include those two PAL frames,
but did have an extra black frame at the start.
No edit required; just insert 42ms delay when muxing the streams
so audio begins at the second video frame

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

For Star Wars, if you can, the easiest thing to do would be to just output the PAL track from Audition.

For Empire, do what Mallwalker said.  set a +42ms delay when muxing in mkvmerge or whatever you use.

Thanks. I don't have Audition at the moment, but I'll download the patches in case I do in the future. Until then, I would just insert 42ms of silence in between the 144053 & 144054 frames, correct?

I still haven't managed to grab a copy of this. There just aren't enough seeders. Can you throw this up on Usenet and I'll seed it on MySpleen 24/7 for like a month (at least!)? I'd appreciate it...

Sure, Do you have any advice on a program to post with? It's been a while since I posted to usenet.

Thanks!

If you're comfortable with the CLI, then I suggest sanguinews (for posting); par2tbb (for par2 file generation); and p7zip (for compressing and splitting).

If you prefer a GUI, then I suggest JBinUp.

Thanks, I'll try both methods.  Are the command line tools appreciably faster?

User @W00kiee pointed out to me that I had an error in the 5.1 ac3 tracks from the Japanese version of the '97 SE ROTJ.  Side 1 was actually another recording of side 2.  I've re-ripped side 1, and will update the torrent on Myspleen.  All the other files are identical, so you would just have to delete side 1 of the Japanese 5.1 mix and re-download the new torrent.  It's only about 150 MB to download, if you're interested.

I'm going to work on posting to a.b.starwars within the next two days.

They're not faster. I just have more trust in the ones I posted than I do in JBinUp.

Thanks schorman again for an awesome body of work.  I know there is discussions of a “Version 2 recreation" for Empire and Jedi over on h_h’s 70mm thread.  I haven’t seen any new information there for a while (maybe people are waiting to see what happens with speculations of 2015 retail releases?).

Anyway, I’m wondering if there would be interest in a lossless version of Empire/Jedi continuing on h_h’s ideas (i.e. using improved surround decoder as per SW’77 70mm recreation "2nd/new version").

Are the ’93 LD sources still considered a good starting point -- for Empire and Jedi I mean? For the LFE channel, I would probably use the 97SE 5.1 (LD’s?).  Would there be a worthwhile benefit to using 2011 BD to source an (essentially 97SE) lossless LFE track?

If I missed anything or if anyone knows that h_h is still working on new version of Empire/Jedi please let me know, I'll just wait.

The new version of ESB in 5.1 (with Bluray-derived LFE and improved surround decoding) already exists, and can be found on v2.0 of the Despecialized Edition.  It will also appear on dark_jedi's new release when that is completed.  A new version of RotJ is also on the way.

I haven't released the audio tracks separately yet because I wanted to put them together in a collection when they're all finished.
