All I could find on Steve Johnson DVD ....... don't know if this is what anyone is talking about.

Yeah, that's the title, it just doesn't seem to be available anywhere.  Will drop them an email and see what they say - last time I checked out the Eon Website it appeared to be an old / orphan page, so it looks like they've done an update.

I can't remember if I saw the YouTube channel and then read about the DVDs or the other way around.  It's some really cool stuff, which makes me wonder what else he has - according to his facebook page, the discs were available to pre-order February 2011, whereas the videos on youtube appear to be from 2009.

anyone had any luck getting the Cinemax rip (17GB) to play back at 24fps? Every time I convert and fix the audio for some reason the centre channel goes out of sync whilst the other 5 play back fine.

Hi folks! Yes, we did create that DVD and had a fantastic run of it. It contained more than what we posted on YouTube. It is actually a 2 disc set. We stopped production on it, but if there is enough interest then we would do another run.

Just letting those interested know that i'll be releasing a regraded release of The Abyss with the blanket green/teal tint removed tomorrow on tehparadox.

I used the high quality theatrical cut hdtv transport stream that's cropped up recently, the one shown in the comparison of the post above as the source.

Anyone still got this BD stream available?  Just joined here in search of Fright Night Part II, The Abyss, and (hopefully one day) True Lies.

I watched the Cinemax broadcast a couple months ago and it looked terrific. A bit of green tint, yes, as expected. Cameron can't help himself, it seems.

We can expect a Blu-Ray soon and when that happens, lots of people will regrade it.

I have the opportunity and the ability to regrade The Abyss to remove the blanket green/teal tint so I have. We have no way of knowing when a blu-ray release will be released so I see no point in waiting, no time like the present and all that.

For those interested, a 16gb regraded release of The Abyss at 23.976fps is now up on tehparadox.

 What/Where is the Spleen?

Thanks

I believe that "The Abyss 1989 HDTV 1080i MPEG-2 DD.5.1 REMUX" is the same old hacked-together release of which Chewtobacca wrote: "The stream's riddled with gaps though. Eac3to will demux it, but it crashes MPEG2Repair (at least for me)."

Where can I see that "flawed Japanese HD broadcast" mentioned in the first post? Or at least full resolution caps from it? In this thread there aren't any, only resized small ones.

I've tried to search for "The Abyss DC_BSHI.mkv", with no useful results. Can anyone help me out?

What colour tints messing with colour is this close match transparent in every way  to some 35mm cells?

A film that deserves 1080p quality mastering and colour to match identically to the theatrical release with rat scene included in UK release.

Found this on ebay. It looks like its from the trailer as the optical soundtrack is a bit loud for this quiet scene from the film.

The seller calls it "rare" on ebay. Rare my foot it is. A chopped up trailer cheeky sellers.

So would the one on the spleen be pretty much the best possible way to watch it as it stands?

From what I can tell so far, yep.  I've been looking for this forever too!  It actually is available for streaming on VUDU.com as well, but it's only SD, and the aspect ratio is WAY off :(

I'm not a spleen member (yet, hopefully) but I'd love to get an invite and check this out if anyone is in the giving mood ;)

There are two HD versions of the special edition available somewhere. Although the quality is worse than the theatrical Cinemax version, they still look nice, nowhere near the horrible DVD.
