I hope I'm not making a mistake by going way out in the open.

That's something I like about this game over the previous: our armies collide a lot sooner.

I also like that we no longer have to keep the centre hex constantly covered to prevent powerful pieces from promoting or kings from winning their side the game. None of our pieces are stuck protecting one hex 24/7 when they could be put to more effective use elsewhere.

That being said, I quite liked Kokusai Sannin, though less so when there was an alliance. I'm a fan of slower games, as you know, so I'm quite happy with it taking a little while to get into the action.

Indeed, agreed...and agreed, indeed...where, that is, I do in fact agree...

I'm a little nervous in such close quarters to even reach out that far as well.  It seems you could easily coordinate to trap a powerful piece if too venturous.

Indeed. The reverse as well, as you've just demonstrated. Nxh7

Interesting combo there.  I wonder if it's an attempt to ensure I don't attain a piece advantage, since if I have to beat a retreat, Ric would get a knight out of the process.  I don't like it, and I'm not going to buy it.

I am sure I'd be sorry...if I was not currently your mortal enemy...

The difficult thing in a three player game isn't necessarily playing one's pieces against his opponents best, but playing your opponents against each other best.

Did I do something wrong? I am seeing a bishop currently residing at j6...

Nope, you did nothing wrong.  It's a case of the "old eyes" I warned you about.  I meant j8.

This is a very risky move I am making.  I'm not sure it will pay off.  But I'm extremely curious to see how a move like this might play out.  So if in the end it is a disaster for me, understand that my curiosity got the better of me.

Not ideal, but I can't see a safe way of creating a threat that my ol' dad would have to respond to.
