It totally sucks that I am living in the last decades of humanity, and that all life on Earth will probably be wiped out.

The largest extinction event in history -- the Permian-Triassic extinction event -- wiped out 96% of all marine species and 70% of all terrestrial vertebra species. Yet look at the Earth now -- chockful of life in all it's various forms.

Somehow, I don't think something as relatively minor as global warming is going to be the straw which breaks the Earth's back.

I disagree. Global Warming WILL destroy 100% of all living organisms on Earth within the next century. We have never seen this before; and science will probably confirm my worst fears a few years from now. They could predict a 10-12 C rise in temperature by 2100 instead of 4-6 C. We could see South America, Africa, and half of Asia rendered uninhabitable much sooner than we expect; maybe by 2030 or 2040. The news is getting progressively worse every year.

Scientists were predicting last winter that the icecap over the North Pole would be gone in 2015 (no joke). They seem to suck at predicting things.

Regardless, how would a 10-13 degree rise in temperature wipe out all living things? The temperature of the world has dropped and risen to far greater extremes in the past, so why would it wipe everything out this time? I can't imagine that everything would be wiped out if it was 35 to 40 degrees C in the summer and -20 to -10 degrees in the winter in Alberta (which is what it would be like with a 10 degree change). I'm pretty sure most things could survive within that temperature range, or at least move north (or be moved north, in the case of plants). Also, just because the good ol' U.S. of A. is warming up does not mean that the whole world is. Antarctica, for instance, is as cold as ever, if not colder.

Yeah, but never in our geologic history has it risen so fast in so short a time: 10 degrees C in less than 300 years, all cause by fossil fuels that took tens of millions of years to accumulate. Life on Earth may exist by 2150, but it will be nothing more than Archea species that will survive. It will end up like Mars at best. No plant life will likely to exist by the end of the century, and without plants there are no other life forms that can live on land; at sea the acidification of the ocean will kill of plankton, causing the same effect for marine life and reducing atmospheric oxygen to roughly 10% or less. It will be nothing but endless deserts on both land and sea a hundred years from now.

Please name your source that says the temperature has risen 10 degrees in less than 300 years. I've consistently seen just over one degree in the past century. Assuming fossil fuels have something to do with it, one can safely assume that it was less in the century before that, and still less before that. Thus we can probably place the rise in temperature at less than 2.5 degrees. You also have to keep in mind that there was a mini-ice age in the Middle Ages. Also keep in mind that we are still recovering from the ice ages of 10,000 years ago and earlier. The world is normally warmer than it is now. We're stuck in a giant cold spell, and I doubt leaving it will kill us all.

Perhaps the 10 degrees in 300 years is for the U.S.A. only. In that case, the rest of the world has less cause for concern and has likely warmed even less than the 2.5 degrees I estimated above since the U.S.A. is one of the largest producers of greenhouse gases.

Also, if the world has indeed been warming by a significant amount from at least 300 years ago, which is before the Industrial Revolution, then humans cannot take all, or even most of, the blame for global warming. This means that it's probably part of the natural cycle of warming and cooling that has been going on for billions of years. I would also like to point out that climate change is included among the theories of the causes for some of the several mass extinctions that have occurred throughout earth's history, indicating again that this is nature at work, and humans cannot be blamed for it all. Of greater concern is probably the clear-cutting of forests and inefficient use of space.

When I meant a 300 year period, I meant from 1850 to 2150. It has never been this abrupt and catastrophic before, hardly a "natural cycle" the pro-carbon activists want you to believe. Maybe it will be a 2C rise in the next century, but it probably be much higher than scientists are currently predicting thanks to a runaway greenhouse effect that will be triggered in the next few decades. There is a lot of carbon in permafrost and the oceans: warming the Earth will release it. Remember, it took 100 million years for all that coal and oil to be made in the first place. Burning all of it within the space of a hundred years is fatal. Evolution can't work fast enough compensate this geologically instantaneous event, hence niches will be emptied, and the whole tree of life crumbles like a house of cards.

Hey I have a right to spill out my guts on this message board. You can't psychoanalize a person based on his comments on the Internet. Don't cut me off when I need help the most. I would be less annoying if the world weren't so awful right now, and the future so bleak.

I don't mean to cut you off, but the truth is that what you see happening in the future doesn't jive with reality. Pessimism is not intrinsically wrong, but you go overboard. You need to start looking on the positive side, and realizing that the world is no worse than it ever was, and is in many ways better. Overall, people have a better quality of life than they used to. There are things that have gotten worse, but they are cancelled out, if not outweighed, by the things that have gotten better. Make a conscious effort to be positive, possibly seek therapy, but do not allow yourself to remain trapped in your dystopian view of the present and future.

Well I'd hate to be that guy to push drugs or drinking on somebody.

Thank you very much: now I'll go overdose on some heroin.

Why jump straight to heroin?  I was thinking like some pot.  That'd help you be more at peace with the world, and without overdosing  or dying.  I'm not even being that sarcastic, you really seem like you could use a good joint.  It wouldn't hurt you and it would help with your general despair.

I believe that is at least the third time I've written something of similar nature directed at you, yes. I can't help you much more beyond that, but it's still true and relevant. You need to find some help outside of the internet, because you just aren't living with a sold grip on reality.

It's illegal though, even with a prescription. Not to mention if marijuana will even survive climate change.

It may not be the biggest issue in the world but I have been looking forward to the first Emma Peel season of the Avengers being released on Bluray all year but now I read the reviews for the it and they all say the picture is good and well restored but for some stupid reason they used the PAL audio with the NTSC video so the audio is pitched too high and out of sync with the picture.  this is a real kick in the teeth for me.

Yeah but sadly it seems to be becoming more and more common.  I am guess with sales slipping on disc based media that the studios are not doing the type of quality control they used to because this isn't the first release I have seen with lip sync problems or say a menu that doesn't work or the disc playing the wrong audio track by default. It seems disc based releases are getting worse and worse and as someone who can't download this does not sit well with me.

This is why whenever I can I stick to recording stuff off of Tv and making my own discs, because a lot of the time my home made discs are of a higher quality then the professional releases.  That is pretty sad if you ask me.

Yeah, well where I live you get a greater penalty if caught pirating movies than smoking pot.  Just sayin.

(and I know morally fanediting isn't piracy, but to the law it's pretty hard to say that it isn't.)

I think I know now what buyer's remorse is.

I just bought two nes games from Ebay. I didn't spend an unholy sum, but it definately is above my usual spending habits.

I know I'll still be happy when I see the carts in the mail, but I still shat my pants when I read the invoice.

I'm an ASS. I'm broke. I should get a job. Why don't I get a job???
